There's a charge on Gaming International's Companies House account to L&G Affordable Homes who submitted the rejected housing plans. Gaming International are listed as owners on the Title Deed.
-
The fact Mr Park was so keen to support the demolition of the stadium would certainly suggest he stands to gain something from it! There are people keen to run the sport in Swindon, but that's very hard to take forward whilst dear old Uncle Clarke still owns the stadium.
-
You're right. But the point stands that multi-use opportunities are there IF the owner WANTS to make a success of the stadium.
-
And a Motorcycle training business. You're absolutely spot on. Asset Stripping or Corporate Vandalism sums it up nicely
-
If you run it into the ground with no investment and no diverse uses, it's bound to struggle!

Planning for houses has been refused.

Swindon fans (in the main) don't see this as a material change. Swindon Speedway 2013 LTD wasn't operating and no longer had any association with running speedway in Swindon (BSPL have the licence). This move was entirely predictable with Terry passing away and Park now being Osborne's puppet in Swindon Motorsports and their pretend new track.
-
How do you reach that conclusion from this?

Oxford V Poole 15/4/26 BSN 1st leg

Well, that wasn't a classic was it!? Any movement off the blue groove and riders just went backwards. Took my Mrs to her first meeting since 2003 and she simply said "it's not as exciting as it used to be is it?" You can't dish that sort of meeting up regularly.and hope to take the sport forward! -

Fabulous to hear as I feared the worst after hearing a few things over recent days. Would be good for the club to put some meat on the bones to provide assurance of longevity though.

What's changed, Rob?
-
Shame. There was some interest in Swindon but this stance impacted that.

I'm hearing ARC/PGR don't want any more tracks.

Dire news. Oxford must be in grave danger of going back to square one 😪

In fact, he (and Russell) both said Studley is NOT dependent on the Abbey housing. Swindon Motorsports have been asked to legally link the Studley and Abbey plans to make Studley dependent on S106 monies from the Abbey. They have repeatedly refused to do so! Park actually said "he would walk away from Studley" if they were forced to link it to the Abbey plans. Go figure...

Earmarked for housing to allegedly fund the refurbishment and reopening of the Grade 2 listed swimming pool.

The Abbey Stadium planning applications are scheduled to be decided upon next Tuesday (10th) from 18.00. The SBC Planning Officer's Reports recommend the applications are rejected.

Oxford Spires 2026 ?

Very naive way of looking at it. -
No idea

Swindon Speedway 2013 Director Steve Park has submitted a letter to SBC supporting the demolition of the Abbey Stadium! He claims rejection of the plans "will end any possibility of a return of speedway to Swindon" - bizarrely, he earlier claims that Studley Grange is "currently making progress through the planning stages." So, which is it, Steve? Will the weird logic of failure to remove the only speedway track in the locality really end all hope? Or are you delivering a new track? I'll let others speculate on what a speedway company director could possibly gain from the loss of the only speedway facility... https://pa.swindon.gov.uk/publicaccess/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=T2SDBXPTIS200

Yes. These are Gaming International's leisure box-ticking proposals for the Abbey - alongside 130 houses (with 8 'affordable') proposed by L&G. The fantasy plans for the "new" facility are still in a "consultation" statua with Wilts Council with no date set for a decision yet.

I think it will be easier for CO to claim that it's impossible for Speedway to survive in Swindon.
