So it's a sad farewell to speedway at Perry Barr. The local council/lease holders couldn't wait to get the bulldozers on site and have already erected a wall around the site to keep the travellers out. Will we ever see a return of the the red B or will it be left in history as what was a great sport. Although I wasn't a long time fan, I've had a few good years going there and working there and meeting many people whose club this was. To them this was their whole world, who spent many many hours and years trying to keep it going. In the end it just wasn't to be but, better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. So farewell brummies wherever you are until we meet next time around.

Why would that be a problem? All stadia in use are privately owned but sub let to speedway.

There's a huge difference between a stadium and derelict industrial land.

1 they will probably have other plans for it

2 if they were prepared to entertain the idea they'd want full commercial rates (see Perry Barr offer to Tolley to rent the whole stadium once the dogs were going)

3 there's no guarantee of the speedway being able to obtain planning consent which could tie the site up for many months with no guarantee of success

Most of the disused industrial sites are owned by the same company that owns monmore Green.

Seems the demolition of Perry Barr stadium is being investigated because it didn’t have permission to knock it down

They are not going to make them rebuild it unfortunately.  A big fine for the already bankrupt city council would serve the corrupt councillors right.

I've never understood the concept of fining a council though. The money gets diverted away from providing services, and then they put up council tax to cover the shortfall. So the ones causing the problem suffer no more punishment than the average Joe Public (and less effectively if they live in a different council area). Some other, more direct form of punishment of the individuals should be available

Who would be fining who in this case? 

How would the city council be fined, and, if it were, woukdn't it be paying the fine to the city council ( who as I understand it own the site and are the relevant local authority)?

Nothing will come of the demolition of Perry barr, it will just be swept away just like the crooked house (not to be confused with ACU house)  corruption pays in this world unfortunately

Indeed. I remember the Arena Essex crew making noises about the demolition of the Raceway Tavern being unauthorised or such like, never heard another word about it subsequently

I am ready to be corrected here but i think the Tavern was demolished as it meant no rates were due on the land - sadly the site has been now derelict since late 2018.

Perhaps the same applies at PB, I know they were quick to rip out all manner of stuff at the EoES too

Have the utmost respect for you and certainly no intent to "shoot the messenger"

However, and as a lifelong Aston Villa and Birmingham Brummies supporter, it does pain me to say this, but this sort of activity by anyone involved in Speedway / Bangers at The Wheels or elsewhere is not only going to end up in instant failure, it is also going to go in the face of a massive Private / Local and Central Government investment.

The Plans for the site are incredible and will give the City and Region a Global presence. If I hold my nose and gag refles, I have to admit that this development will not only be the best in the UK but probably in Europe

Central Government have allocated significant future funding for the Transport Network to link the City / KnIghthead Park / the NEC and Airport and Rail Network finally up via new Rail new Tram and new pedestrianised and cycle walkways.

Local Government areinvesting millions in to similar projects.

Knighthead have got planend investment in to the Stadium and massive local area in excess of £3bn

They are looking not just at Soccer but facilities that will allow European / Commonwealth / Olympic sized bids and other Sports and the biggest Concerts etc. They appear to be close to announcing the proposed Stadium and Training Complexes as the new National home for the Soccer Lionesses from 2032.

With the connections they have in US Sport (Tom Brady) there is a genuine move to give Birmingham the UK US Football franchise long promised to London and also the option for other US Sports including Basketball. 

They have the Film / TV Industry nailed down too with links to the Creator of Peaky Blinders (btw writing the next Bond Movie) and much more.

As much as it pains me to say it, from a football and speedway perspective, any attempt to stall this would not land well with anyone in or around the City.

If Speedway / Stocks have a sense of commonsense they will drop this, and seek a compromise site elsewhere in brown belt land and in fact there may well be options just outside of the scope for this development on the Airport side adjacent to NEC / Airport (where noise would not be an issue) .

Wheels has been an option since the Speedway closed there, of it wasn't a considered plan then . now is certaintly too late. A site adjacent to A45 corridor around the Airport / NEC perimiter might be the best option right now!

And all that ignores the fundamental reason Birmingham wheels was set up  in the first place and that should never change, I was one of those kids who it kept off the streets,not everyone likes football or athletics or any other corporate entity that is forced into our psyche,?I know the campaigners will loose but it’s not about speedway or stock cars,,it’s about corruption at council level
