... in other news and just sticking my 2 penneth in regarding the lifting of air fences. 

I've often thought that the current air fence setup needs something more solid in front of it on the rider facing side. Something similar to an ice cream sandwich, where the ice cream is the air bag and the wafers either side are, the existing fence, crowd side and something similar rider side but made of an easily breakable material, maybe something like what the kick boards are made of, maybe slightly dug into the ground... I wonder if anything like this has ever been tested?

You could possibly even have them down the straights too if they had a more rigid outer and riders couldn't catch their handle bars in them. 

The air bag is only there for energy dispersion.

I'm sure the guy that runs it has the best of intentions but you've got to be able to hear what's being said or what's the point?

The Talk Speedway podcast also had similar issues with that Australian ex rider guy, can't think of his name at the moment constantly dropping out and you often just get the guy that presents it talking to himself for minutes on end!

If people are going to publish these things to the public it really needs to be better quality in 2025 like the Ian Brannan podcasts, I know he's a pro but surely it can't be that difficult to check sound levels of all participants before starting and if somebody's isn't up to scratch don't just continue like everything's okay.

As for sound issues, I can say from our experiences on the Pride of the East podcast that we can all sound perfectly fine to eachother, Nathan can do a short recording test which sounds fine when played back and everything can be as clear as a bell.....until you play the full episode back after editing and it sounds horrendous. As you say any broadcast sinks or swims on its sound quality but sometimes the amateur stuff that folk do for the love of it (like us) can for no apparent reason be off.

In my case I use a head microphone on a laptop where I think everyone else use their phones, I will mention it to Derek

When we started last weeks podcast everything was clear, then at the end of the Andrew Bain bit, Simon lambert started sounding like a robot, it got so bad we stopped recording, reset everything and the sound was good and then Simon went back to sounding like a robot then he went off altogether, we got him back but sound was so bad even we couldn’t here what he was saying and he went off altogether

Instead we have something very much in tune with the general malaise of British Speedway.....

Problems like this are usually caused by a number of things including running video on a device without enough ram to handle the processing of it, especially as you have a number of video feeds involved. Plus shaky wifi / slow internet. If you're not in the same room as your router you're asking for it. Always use a wired connection where possible. Plus the software you're using will massively affect how things sound. Zoom and Teams are obviously very popular but they totally screw your audio setup, and also squish the file as small as possible.  

If you are using those often they have a tick box somewhere for HD audio, that will help. Zoom & FaceTime are used by the BBC etc and they sound good but they run it either with video off and record the video on a separate cam or phone and put it together in production, or they use a broadcast grade version which isn't available in the shops.

Mate I ride speedway bikes and drive a van, I have no idea what you are talking about 😂 I have to get the Mrs to set up the laptop and ear mike to do the podcast but I will pass the this on to Derek, cheers

Hi Dean, sorry to see your old avatar gone, I was at Queensway meadows when you piled into the fence. I think you were trying to pass or keep up with some young laddie, looking good in the new one though.
