Glasgow Tigers 2026

Perhaps if Mario had shown an interest in practicing around Ashfield, he’d have found he had an home advantage.

It’s total nonsense to say there’s no home advantage for Glasgow riders, it’s just an excuse when we lose.

Most of the clubs that apparently have a home advantage get beaten at home more than Glasgow.

Mario doesn't seem to like damp conditions, which makes me wonder why he joined Glasgow! 🤣 Maybe Leon Flint only knows how to say 'sunny' in German and not 'rainy' 🤷‍♂️ (I'm assuming as they both ride for Landshut that Leon had some involvement in Mario joining Glasgow).

As for home track advantage...the extra dirt compared to how other tracks are prepared (especially when Glasgow are visiting) is probably the main point of difference, some riders handle that better than others. For riders that can pass, Ashfield also normally gives them the opportunity to try

I think Mario was signed purely off the back of that one good meeting in SoN2.

Having watched that meeting, Mario found an inside line that worked for him (and pretty much no one else in the meeting). Memory is a little hazy but I think he finished 3rd in every heat, beating the other countries number 2 rider, but not their number 1. Blodorn was flying out the gates and won most of the heats and Germany 6-3'd their way to victory (4-3-2-0 scoring).

I thought at the time that Hausl had over performed in that meeting.

A lack of track time at Ashfield hasn't helped, but I think his own choices in not practising are a big cause of that. Our licence has no, or very little, restrictions on it so he could practice pretty much any time he liked

Let’s be honest team building for this season has been a big anti-climax compared to previous years , Signing Hausl and Hagon were major red flags and even resigning Hodder was very questionable.

I’d have signed Hodder again but that’s without me seeing him every week, not sure he’s worth another season though at this point

It's Mitchell Davey all over again. Each year there's a feeling, possibly a fear, that next year might be the year he really makes it stick. Same with Freddy, some improvement year on year, and the feeling we'd miss our by not re signing him.

Possibly Oxford may be after him following his paid max down there in the summer

Riders should know the expectations will be higher at certain clubs, like Glasgow or Poole. Even if the management tell them there's no pressure, they'll know the fans are used to a winning team (especially at Poole). If they want to learn the sport with zero pressure, could join a team that never wins anything?

Ablitt was given the number 7 spot at Poole a few seasons ago simply to fill a 2.00 void. There was no pressure on him because the Pirates had 6 very strong riders to offset his poor scores that year and the fans were extremely supportive of him. He's now averaging almost 6 points per meeting at Scunthorpe and could have another title under his belt at the end of this season.

One silver lining for Glasgow is that he's hopeless around Ashfield. He makes strong starts but then seems to completely forget the concept of racing lines and always get overtaken.
