Belle Vue Aces 2026

Tungate is 35, Wright 37, and Zagar 42.   Belle Vue go mainly for young riders.  I can see them going for one mid-30s rider with experience in the middle-order, but none of those three.

All proven scorers around the NSS though.

Tried and Tested in a watered down League could be the way to go instead of taking a punt on Newcomers that may struggle.

LOL.   That's exactly what they are.

A testimonial is granted for someone who has been an asset of a club for 10 years.

When a rider is tranferred they are entitled to a percentage of the transfer fee for each year they have been an asset.  Thus to compensate someone who hasn't moved, for the years of missing out on a percentage transfer fee, they got a testimonial.

I understood the asset system - along with loan fees - had been dispensed with? And testimonials were considered for riders that have been in British speedway for 10 years?

Testimonials are now given to any rider who has put 10 years into British Speedway and that's not even 10 consecutive years... or even full seasons!

Exactly right.

When we had the asset system, riders were given a percentage of the transfer fee.   I think 2.5% of the fee for each year they had been attached to the club.  (Although it may have been 5% for the first year and then 2.5% for subsequent years up to a maximum of 25% or 27.5% - someone will remember).

Testimonials were compensation for a rider who had stayed an asset of a club for 10 years, and had therefore never had a cut of any transfer fee.

It was also possible to be transferred to another club, but refuse a cut of the transfer fee, in which case the years of service continued to build up towards a testimonial.

With the asset system seeming to have bitten the dust now, I guess Testimonials will also disappear.

Someone will know the cut of the transfer fee.  I think it was 5% for the first year, and 2.5% for every other year up to 10 years.

This team would be unbeatable around the NSS imo.

1. B. Kurtz 8.97

2. R. Tungate 5.89

3. C. Wright 6.27

3. Z. Cook 6.20

5. M. Zagar 6.46

6. T. Zischke 3.00

7. J. Mulford (RS)

= 36.79

A friend in Poland has told me that Kurtz is very unlikely to ride in Britain next year...

You do have to consider the logistics for these top riders...

Having to have machines and mechanics over here, and also just to get here themselves, when they could live in Poland and ride at the weekend there, Sweden on Tuesday, and go into Denmark on Wednesday, and back across the sea into Poland ready for the weekend..

And, over here, all to ride against much lesser opponents than they would find in Sweden and Poland, (and looking at Denmark's level of signings for next year, Denmark too)...

They will want to go head to head against the best as often as possible as it keeps themselves sharp..

And, without the TV money coming in, it would be quite conceivable that their pay rates over here will also be "different" next season, from the recent seasons just gone...

Yes all that but to counter... easier rides in the UK, more race wins available, confidence higher, less pressure, more familiar surroundings. With many saying that a lot about being successful in sport is what's going on in your head, these things can't be ignored.

Not sure beating the Speedway equivalent of "makeweights" each night over here will appeal to too many at the very top of their trade...
