Insanity has got the sport in the trouble it is in.

Greed and a lack of both discipline and vision have got the sport when it is,unfortunately the sport is in a downward spiral and all decisions taken these days are reactive and not proactive and the deeper you dig into the sport the more you realise that downward spiral is of our own doing as much as we like to blame outside influence

Here is an idea, after the AGM the bspl issue a brief press release saying we will be revealing all at the speedway show next Saturday at the motoring museum in Warwickshire in one of the conference rooms at the plush venue, get some riders and all the members of bspl and make it a big press conference type thing, get the league sponsors there, invite any press that want to attend, all singing and dancing, make it an event yes it’s preaching to the converted but they are all you have at this moment in time and you know what it all costs to do it  ? peanuts, it just takes time an effort, you have 1000 stickers made with a British speedway logo and you give them away at the show, ask people to put them on back of their cars, it’s free publicity to 1000s of other motorists who are behind the sticker, get the product out there

Unsurprisingly Mark Lemon in the SS is bigging up the Premier league and saying it just needs 2 clubs to move up.

Otherwise it could have serious repercussions for the Championship if the commuting riders can’t ride because our tracks operate when they like meaning rider shortage and wage demands from all the rest.

No TV deal might mean it’s plan B !

What is Danny Ford's viewpoint in the same article?

Get Arry up there with some ex pros the currant bun would be there to publicise it.

It's beginning to look like the only reason 'Arry's services were acquired was to put a press release out that he (allegedly) watched Speedway on TNT Sports, probably in the hope of extending the TV deal with them... other than that I really can't see what he can bring to the sport.

Yes it does look like it was just a bit of publicity, the bit I don’t get is Redknapp does nothing for nothing and if he was going to do something for nothing it wouldn’t be for speedway, so what’s in it for him ?

Probably just a fee payment for him mentioning Speedway?

From what I hear we can’t afford that

It's amazing what they can find money for though

A bit harsh....

'Arry, in that article, seemed to have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the sport from the early 70's to the modern day...😉

Mark Lemon would say that as he manages probably the most heavily subsidised team in the UK, without the local councils support even BV would struggle to exist, Mr Lemon could also say the reverse is true in that without the Championship would we have a Premier League ?.

Just read the article and you cannot argue with anything he says...

Because, it has all pretty much been suggested on here in the past!!!

Almost every sentence I read, I thought "No s**t Sherlock!"....

Where we are now has been inevitable for many years, and, (forever it seems), forecasted on here, yet "Mike" seems to have had some kind of epiphany and realised the sport is in serious "you know what"...

Even suggesting plenty of things that could be done to get more riders into the sport!..

(Obviously no one, apart from the fans, have noticed exactly the same lads, (getting older), turning up each week, at all the tracks in both divisions, for the best part of a decade!)...

The sport, like all sports, needs an "Elite level", however, it seems unaffordable to do it in the UK for enough tracks...

And "one big league" will mean riders losing out on the money that doubling up brings, so will want more from their one team, and the league will have plenty of "good" riders missing on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturdays as they race in Denmark and Poland...

A right (self inflicted over many years) schemozzle...

Magic wand time at the AGM?

If so, maybe we need Harry Potter rather than Harry Redknapp!!!

Yes the winter we all feared for two decades has finally arrived Mike and its not looking two friendly, when I used to go every week mid eighties to early 90's there were loads of problems but we still had all the top men and crowds in general were ok, plus if it had been used wisely there was time to set the sport on a sustainable footing.

I'm not sure I can see a way out of it all if a tv deal isn't forthcoming it truly is a right mess but its been forty odd years in the making.

As an aside I was just thinking in 1985 when Gundo and Hans reined supreme pre-internet how as a 15 year old I used to race to the newsagents for a copy of the Star and Speedway Mail (remember that any veterans on here) the Star must be nearly a fiver a copy now given they do a sterling job but to an ever shrinking fan base.

£3.60 for the Speedway Star....

Less if you subscribe or go digital...

Still a fantastic publication...

Raised its game given most news is now instant on the internet...

Lots of articles and discussion points....

Spot on re the current plight by the way, YOPG...

I truly hope we are all wrong because when its promoted right with a good track and riders at the top of their game it can still be a brilliant sport but it seems even getting six teams in the top league together to maintain the current not working status quo is going to be uber difficult.

There' still no news on Sheffield and surely if someone is going to go in at Oxford they are going to need to be a lottery multi millionaire or the other promoters will have to part underwrite the losses which given most will be breaking even at best and if no tv deal is forthcoming you would think where will they find a possible guessing £50-80k needed to tempt any normal promoter who isn't loaded to take on the risk.

I'm beginning to realise that the "radical" change that has been mooted for next season is in fact no change... and that, when you think about it, is quite radical for a sport in a terminal decline!

You all realise where the 'radical change' comment came from initially don't you? Peter Schroeck. Need I say any more?
