'Returning British Professionals: Returning British professionals can apply for an 8% reduction in their starting average for every season they have missed out of the sport, helping them secure team places.'

Buy Maps

so 8+8+8+8+2.5% = 34.5%

4.80 - 34.5% = 3.14.

1 Leon Flint 8.25
2 Freddy Hodder 3.31
3 Chris Harris © 7.93
4 Anders Rowe 6.39
5 Dan Thompson 7.55
6 James Shanes 3.14
7 Smith/Foord

Is that how it works?

You've forgotten the nailed on signing from worky zischke

I like the rule, bit think 8% a season is far too much. Should've just said 2.5% every season missed.

Shanes would be a great signing on that average.

Shanes is a grass tracker, not a speedway rider. He sits in to the bike and doesn’t move. Works in the grass but not on a speedway track where riders need to move as they race. And his NDL average is lower than Jordy Loftus. Add in the fact that he’ll be 30 by the start of next season and, with Glasgow’s history of daft signings, he’s probably nailed on.

I saw Shanes a few times at Armadale in the NDL & he was awesome. Certainly on a par with Loftus, Wood & Foord.

Obviously Champ is stronger, but on a 3 point something ave, is a no brainer for me. Only has to reach a 4 point ave to be a good signing.

There’s any number of riders who can look awesome in the NDL but that’s their limit. Loftus has a 9+ average in NDL but only 3.76 in the CL. I saw Shanes when he rode at Glasgow the night Greg Hancock was there. Greg told him to get his “ass” off the saddle. Next time out, he did. And won. Time after that, he reverted to type and came last. Hausl signed as a 5 “only had to exceed his average” to be a good signing. How did that work out?

Shanes will fill a gap, but, after so long in the sport - and I know he has missed long spells due to injury - he’s not going to substantially improve. Fine for a team whose main aim is survival but no use for any club with a desire for success. IMO

Shanes was riding around a 4.5-5 point average during his time at Birmingham. He certainly wouldn't be bad if he comes in on a 3-point-something average.

Absolutely spot on he locks up so much on every track hasn’t got a speedway style would be over the moon if Glasgow signed him lol.

Is Lee Complins ban over by the start of next season?

Irrelevant to this thread as that druggie clown won't ever be back at Glasgow after him and his nose ruined our 2024 season. Double no after he let his wife make a right show of herself giving it laldy about him being on the wrong painkillers!

For the record it was a 20 month ban from April 2024, with a £2,000 fine and him having to pay for regular drug tests to prove he's clean. I'd be very surprised if he had paid the fine or taken the tests, as the chances of him being signed anywhere at the end of the 2 years are slim, which would mean that his ban has not yet started.
