They were proper intimidating on a Bank Holiday Monday. Sam Ermolenko couldn't ride Cradley until 91 when he became almost unbeatable around Dudley Wood until closed, Simon Cross broke his back in 90, he was never quite the same after that. Both at their peak would have been duel. In the mid 90's when time Hamill & Hancock were at the top of their game, Cradley were better at Monmore v/s Wolves than they were at Dudley Wood. Andy's Philips & Graham were also tidier around Monmore than Dudley Wood and Scott Smith would inadvertently take some Wolves rider out at some point so going around him wasn't an option, not that overtaking him on the inside was difficult. Great times Simon Cross was developing into a real top line rider before his accident and as you say never the same when he came back. Do you remember Andy Graham when he rode for Oxford was bang average everywhere but electric around Cradley. I was going through world championship results the other night and saw Gert Handberg finished third one year he was just starting at the point when I was getting more interested in nightclubs never struck me in his early days as one who would get on the rostrom but he must have turned out half decent ? I still look back very fondly on the Wolves v Cradley and Cradley V Wolves matches I attended.

Trotter65
I went to Sheffield which was the first time ive been there for about 35 years and the 3rd and 4th bends were hundreds of Aces fans which created an atmosphere that was like nothing I’ve seen at club speedway for years…it made for a memorable meeting which in many ways was like a throwback for when the actual racing itself wasn’t fantastic but the crowd and the atmosphere made it into a great night…in many ways that was what made speedway great and it was fantastic to get a night like that in this day and age Edited 11 hours ago by Trotter65

coldace
Anybody know how many seats there are in the North Grandstand in total? Looks as if there are only a dozen or so left for sale. Must say I'm suprised but delighted. Can't help feeling Rob's point that we should have ridden the home leg against Ipswich first was spot on. Think more would have attended not knowing the likely outcome.
