I like the Star, to me it's been in a far better state than the sport for years. The improvements look good to me, on a purely personal level I would like more technical articles about the machines and tracks but realise most wouldn't. The balance at the moment is probably about right for the majority, few , if any, other minority sports get anything near as good as the Speedway Star. Can't understand the gripes about too much Grasstrack or overseas coverage, it's not like you can't just flip past those pages if you have no interest and those who do have an interest appreciate it.

Agree but they probably don’t get paid for that and god forbid that they do something for nothing in order to improve their performance. It just seems that they don’t give a damn about the fans nor do they realise what a poor state the sport is in. They turn up do the four or five rides and leave. It is what it is, but they don’t realise that fans of the sport have options including more speedway on TV. If the riders cannot be bothered why should the supporters part with cash. Let’s hope the riders take a good look at what they have, because when it’s gone that will be it and they will only have themselves to blame.

I seem to remember Sundstrom going quite well at Monmore but he isn't riding well, Shanes is good there sometimes but we miss Hans at tracks like Monmore.

I find it disappointing that Mike Golding is not being mentioned in your thread Mike. He was part of the team that swept in so refreshingly in 1999. Hope people don't forget that.

I don't get this 'such a massive home advantage' bit that is often trotted out. Did we have such a great advantage in the lean years when we were losing for fun (not for the supporters) and adrift towards the bottom? The riders we currently have and have had the past couple of seasons have built up some good home advantage. However I do find it odd that some of those riders who might struggle now rode it very well in the those lean years.

Very few people taking their places at Shielfield last night would have predicted what was about to happen, but take nothing away from Newcastle they thoroughly deserved their win and had Berwick not finally got into some kind of form in the later races Newcastle`s win might've been all the more convincing. Gating was vital last night and the away team were far better in virtually every race and with track conditions ultra slick passing was always going to be difficult. Hopefully for Berwick this performance was a one off, and it might be a blessing that it was in a non league match that saw such a poor night for normally reliable riders. I guess we will get some answers next week against a handy looking Lakeside team. Thank you and well done to Dick Barrie on a perfect tribute to the late Ivan Mauger and letting us remember Berwick supporter Martin Hastings.

Just seen him and Dany Gappmaier at Wetherby Services munching on Burger King. Jay rode at Berwick Saturday with no problems

Lets not forget Mervyn Stewkesbury, Pete Ansell and Alan Hodder for that matter!

Said no actual fan ever... JT and Kyle took a good few years to master Monmore. People assume it happems overnight. Many teams have won when we've had young inexperienced riders. The management have learnt to go with more safer options since!

This thread has drifted from malaria to rape. Better get on to the other thread before Isis comes on.

Entertainment to my mind is where ever race is not over by the first bend and if it is your track staff are directed to sort it out. I remember a number of years ago being at Workington when the Bandits were taking a comfortable lead after four heats out came Messers Stonehewer and Thomas with the track staff and that track was completely changed allowing a easy win for the Comets. It was clear our guys were being out gated but there was nothing for them to work with once they left the gate. If you ain’t got home advantage after the first four heats make dam sure you do after heat five. I rest my case!!!

So when you said all riders you meant those good enough to be able to ride abroad. Certainly riders at championship level are making a living out of it so yes.

You obviously weren't there. Won heat 1 comfortably. Huge engine blow when third (paid 2nd) in his second ride. That's two engines confined to the scrap merchant this season already. Missed the gare and a poor 3rd on his 2nd (and blatantly slower bike). 2nd in heat 13 (the HEAT LEADERS race) ahead of Berwocks No. 1. Chain break which put him head first into fence on bend 3/4 in heat 15 when 2nd. Could have easily hit double figures last night.

Oh come on, thats Rob, he just jokes around, for certain Duffy knew he was joking about his mother. With regards to Damian Bates he was very respectful of Sheffield Speedway and it was an interesting question/answer, remember when Damian came back with "current champions", a good riposte. I for one and many others around me appreciate his comparing greatly. Rob wears his heart on his sleeve and sometimes says too much at times but I wasnt offended at all during the meeting. Shaun Leigh did fine at Scunny but I think Rob is much better for us as he has a vested interest. At Sheffield on the Thursday I could barely hear Shaun due to the quiet sound system.

Congrats to Lakeside on the win Danny really needs to look out for his team mates, he was at fault for Nico coming off in heat 13 as he totally blocked Nico's line, and couldn't he try to slow Morris down in heat 15 to give Rory a chance. People will say he is doing his job if he is winning races but there is no I in team. Hope Nico is alright. As stated before why don't the riders get some track time in after the meeting, only Danyon out there, not good enough.

Highly speculative that he would be a prolific scorer, seems on the downward slide unlike Stevie who improves year on year. I would have thought Somerset would have suited him too. Worrall seemed really up for it this season as his scores, at home at least certainly bear some evidence of this. With a high home average and a moderate away one he would probably have climbed to about 8 this year. Don't think Hougaard has ever achieved that.
