  1. I remember a certain Poole supporter saying can't see what all the hype is about Dan bewley .well done Dan tonight

  2. Please could anyone confirm whether the relegation race off is in place again this year? Just asking for a friend who lives in Dorset.

  3. Sorry Chris, but I find myself at odds with your comments on the Rye managers offering congratulations to Dan. My game was Rugby both league and union, and we were told that you congratulate your opponents after the match, it was called sportsmanship in my day, yes, in the dressing room you let your feelings be known about the performance or lack thereof, but a performance like Dan’s should be recognised. I’m old fashioned, tell them well done but kick their backsides next time.

  4. If you feel like that I suggest a new name for you. Rosco’s Super Fan. You can now cheer on Swindon. Happy days.

  5. So much for all that Bewley hype ......

  6. Nice to see Heeps off the mark & Ash maintaining his form. The pre-season prediction of a Pirates juggernaut is looking a bit wobbly at this early stage. Time will tell I guess.

  7. Correct, every track has racing lines that the home team know best but yes its all about being able to control a bike and not just be a throttle jockey. Look at Mark Loram, could ride any track, fast ones like Exeter but good at Wolves , Eastbourne and Arena, Darcy Ward was good at Arena to. Unfortunately some riders have a mental block before they even ride there

  8. I like the Star, to me it's been in a far better state than the sport for years. The improvements look good to me, on a purely personal level I would like more technical articles about the machines and tracks but realise most wouldn't. The balance at the moment is probably about right for the majority, few , if any, other minority sports get anything near as good as the Speedway Star. Can't understand the gripes about too much Grasstrack or overseas coverage, it's not like you can't just flip past those pages if you have no interest and those who do have an interest appreciate it.

  9. Agree but they probably don’t get paid for that and god forbid that they do something for nothing in order to improve their performance. It just seems that they don’t give a damn about the fans nor do they realise what a poor state the sport is in. They turn up do the four or five rides and leave. It is what it is, but they don’t realise that fans of the sport have options including more speedway on TV. If the riders cannot be bothered why should the supporters part with cash. Let’s hope the riders take a good look at what they have, because when it’s gone that will be it and they will only have themselves to blame.

  10. We don't want him back. Maybe he can move onto Belle Vue!

  11. I seem to remember the same being said about Adam last year. ( when people conveniently forget he was riding with a broken wrist) Give Davey time, I’m sure he’ll come good. Believe me. For a young rider to be seeing fans calling for him to be replaced isn’t a good thing.

  16. I seem to remember Sundstrom going quite well at Monmore but he isn't riding well, Shanes is good there sometimes but we miss Hans at tracks like Monmore.

  18. I find it disappointing that Mike Golding is not being mentioned in your thread Mike. He was part of the team that swept in so refreshingly in 1999. Hope people don't forget that.

  19. I don't get this 'such a massive home advantage' bit that is often trotted out. Did we have such a great advantage in the lean years when we were losing for fun (not for the supporters) and adrift towards the bottom? The riders we currently have and have had the past couple of seasons have built up some good home advantage. However I do find it odd that some of those riders who might struggle now rode it very well in the those lean years.

  20. Very few people taking their places at Shielfield last night would have predicted what was about to happen, but take nothing away from Newcastle they thoroughly deserved their win and had Berwick not finally got into some kind of form in the later races Newcastle`s win might've been all the more convincing. Gating was vital last night and the away team were far better in virtually every race and with track conditions ultra slick passing was always going to be difficult. Hopefully for Berwick this performance was a one off, and it might be a blessing that it was in a non league match that saw such a poor night for normally reliable riders. I guess we will get some answers next week against a handy looking Lakeside team. Thank you and well done to Dick Barrie on a perfect tribute to the late Ivan Mauger and letting us remember Berwick supporter Martin Hastings.

  21. As I said on paper Poole looked like the best team but with huge risks and one of those risks has yet to ride this season! The poles haven’t done anything yet. Woryna was going to put 3-4 points on his average and I’ve yet to see any indication that will happen. Linus has been poor and so to has Josh really and Kurtz is not living up to a number one role yet. Poole were built top heavy hence Shanes is in and I still see people saying he should go lol. Look at Swindon also built top heavy and Davey has done nothing yet they are still winning matches because the top boys are banging in the points so Davey can be carried a bit.....which the Poole top boys are not doing at the moment Timo Lahti is on standby.....

  22. Well done to Bewley. Will be up in the team in a couple of weeks. Starke to reserve?

  23. Davey scored 2 maximums in his two NL meetings. With the points we have available it would need to be a NL rider to replace him. Not sure there is anyone better at the moment. He also scored well v BV in the Charity Shield. So no need to look at changing a winning team at the moment. Need to give him a few more meetings.

  24. I think everything he has said so far on the forum in 2018 has been wrong
    1 point
  25. Yeah he will but there wont be much to replace him. I think Shanes is a good as those with more potential than most. And let's face it if your top 5 was doing the biz he would be ok scoring 3 or 4.

  26. It is what it is, but for us to cast judgement and say it's very badly advised may itself be badly advised. We only have our selfish opinions as fans. We aren't close enough to the guy or his family to know all the facts that went into making that decision. It might be unfortunate for the world of speedway, but there's a lot more to life than just speedway.

  29. Starman, I didn't say it was you, there are others who I assume are Poole fans (or baiters) commenting on the make up of the team going forward, not just for this meeting. dont get stressed over speedway mate, it ain't worth it

  30. Agreed although Ward could ride any track. Don't ever recall him having a track he struggled on.

  32. I also agree that Will is doing a good job. His use of reserve switches has been very on the ball. As for Neil Vatcher, whilst he may indeed not have been an inspiring team manager, he does seem to have done an excellent job with the youth speedway set up. There has been a steady stream of kids with high potential coming through the system in the last two or three years. Perhaps he's found his calling?

  33. I can understand Etheridge and Gappmaier being at Wetherby services on their way down from the North East, but if you're coming up from Rye House and you've reached Wetherby, then you've missed Manchester by a hell of a long way!

  35. Most thinking riders know how to ride it. It's all about throttle control.

  36. Or was it due to having another extensive regrade after ht10 that yet again worked against us. We were in complete control up to that point but in heats 11 - 15 the score was 11-19. That would have finished us off against decent opposition, as it did on several occasions in 2017.

  37. Said no actual fan ever... JT and Kyle took a good few years to master Monmore. People assume it happems overnight. Many teams have won when we've had young inexperienced riders. The management have learnt to go with more safer options since!

  38. But thats the way the Poole team has been built this year. You cant go top heavy like Poole have with Kurtz, Holder and Josh and Linus as 4 heat leaders yet be strong in reserve. If Shanes gets 3 or 4 a meeting he will have done his job. The problem at Poole is that the top boys are not doing there job

  39. Merely a layman's opinion, but to the eye Monmore has a unique shape that requires a different approach than other tracks. . Always well prepared, it has long straights and tight corners this create many problems to unexperienced riders. The difference we have at Lynn is that most riders like to come here and race. Our home advantage is very little. That's not a moan, merely an observation. I actually enjoy evenly contested matches, even when we lose.

  41. Matts doing it with all the best intentions. His record in the last 19 years speaks for itself , and i have told him, nobody can take that away from him. Ablely assisted by Neil. Matt was a sponsor and fan before becoming a promoter. And i have the greatest respect for him as a person, and a promoter. Along with many many fans not just poole, he and his lovely wife, were great to me while i was in hospital, his words rang in my ears he calls a spade a spade. and im always happy to help him and Neil where i can.

  42. Hopefully a few arses have been kicked into gear because that really was not acceptable! The 2nd half made it respectable but to get beaten out the gate like that so regularly was concerning! I'm a mug but I will be there next week.. It's a challenge match so that makes things a little easier to deal with. Maybe that's a warning to not be complacent against anyone!

  44. Oh come on, thats Rob, he just jokes around, for certain Duffy knew he was joking about his mother. With regards to Damian Bates he was very respectful of Sheffield Speedway and it was an interesting question/answer, remember when Damian came back with "current champions", a good riposte. I for one and many others around me appreciate his comparing greatly. Rob wears his heart on his sleeve and sometimes says too much at times but I wasnt offended at all during the meeting. Shaun Leigh did fine at Scunny but I think Rob is much better for us as he has a vested interest. At Sheffield on the Thursday I could barely hear Shaun due to the quiet sound system.
