krompa 236 Posted March 13, 2014 As has been pointed out so many times that I'm amazed that it's still having to be explained the BSPA's resistance to the SEC and Best Pairs has absolutely nothing to do with 'isolationism' or a misguided attempt to improve GB's chances in international competition. It is an attempt at survival for the British domestic speedway product. We have already lost too many weekends to the SGP and SWC so another seven weekends lost to these extra competitions is viewed with great concern here. Don't try playing the "race on one night" card either - you may be happy to have less than 10 home meetings a season in Poland but that is not our way here and why should we change that just to accommodate the greed of Polish speedway? One Sport are using these competitions to take on BSI and to be honest here in the UK we're heartily sick of these power games. We have our domestic sport to rescue and that's what matters to supporters here, not doing well in a pairs competition re-created purely to meet the needs of One Sport or the PZM. Double checked the dates. Woffinden/Cook in Torun and Eskilstuna and Woffinden/Harris in Landshut would do no harm to Elite League as mentioned riders have racing-free evenings anyway. As all 3 pair meetings will be live on British Eurosport, potentially thousands of local fans lost a chance to watch British stars in action. That's the way BSPA is saving British speedway... Why should the BSPA support a series organised by a private promoter without getting anything in return? I don't think this pairs competition is even sanctioned by FIM Europe, is it? Part of the issue here is the late announcement of the dates ie after the official cut-off date for all 'international fixtures'!!! manchesterpaul 447 Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) OK all politics aside surely most of us are looking forward to this meeting? i certainly am eagerly anticipating it despite the depressing omission of an England pair to cheer on. So good luck to our overseas fans favourites and whilst you'll have that extra enjoyment i'll still heartily enjoy the event too. Incidentally, isn't this the meeting that had riders able to choose gates throughout the meeting and it caused some confusion? Anybody seen any rules and regulations for it? Poland - Polish fans have been Waiting for 42 years for another success in international tournament of speedway pairs. On the 8th of June on Motoarena stadium Polish team (Tomasz Gollob, Adrian Miedziński and Jarosław Hampel) won in Eurosport Speedway Best Pairs beating Russia and Denmark. First and the only gold medal for Polish team won the pair: Jerzy Szczakiel and Andrzej Wyglenda on a Rybnik track in 1971. 1. Tomasz Gollob 2. Adrian Miedziński 15. Patryk Dudek Latvia - Speedway in Latvia is usually associated with such names as: Kjastas Puodżuks, Andrzej Lebiediew , Maksim Bogdanow, Wiaczesław Gieruckis and Jewgienij Kostygow. All this riders are known as the riders of Lokomotive Daugavpils. This team has really good scores in Polish first division. Older fans of speedway surely remember also brothers: Władimir and Iwan Rybnikow who were champions of Latvia many times. Young speedway riders will want to make a surprise in Speedway Best Pairs 2014. 3. Kasts Puodżuks 4. Andzejs Lebedeve 16. Maksim Bogdanovs Denmark - in the whole history of World Pairs Championships the best were Danes. They are on the top of medal classification which consists of scores of 23 years (from 1970 to 1993). Danish team won 17 medals in total. Eight times they were the champions. First time in 1979 in Vojens and last time in Poznan in 1991. In Torun Danes (Hans Andresen and Michael Jepsen Jensen) were third after the teams from Poland and Russia. The pair from Antipodes won silver medal. Last year Australians (Chris Holder, Davey Watt and Jason Doyle) weren’t successful. They scored 26 points and were fourth. Chris Holder and Darcy Ward will present to fans on Motoarena and millions of fans of speedway on television around the world. Is still an open question - who will be the reserve of Australians. Last year, "Team Aussies" was represented by Chris Holder, Davey Watt and Jason Doyle. While "Chrispy" was one of the best players the tournament, so his partners could not consider his performance a success. With a total of 26 points – Australians acchived place outside the podium. For Darcy Ward tournament Speedway Best Pairs Cup will be the first major launch of the new season. In contrast to his colleague of the pair, he not competed in the individual championship of Australia, and for each other will only have a motocross training and pre-season free starts. Important is, that Holder and Ward are Unibax Torun riders. The 2012 world champion start there continuously since 2008 and Motoarena knows inside-out. Similarly, Darcy Ward , a young , rebellious but extremely talented speedway rider, who this year will help the Australian speedway legend - Jason Crump. 7. Chris Holder 8. Darcy Ward 18. Cameron Woodward Sweden - 12 medals - that’s the number which Swedes won in World Pair Championships. Their Scandinavian neighbors – Danes are five medals better. However Swedish team is very high in a general medal classification because they are on the third place. Last big success of the Swedish pair took place in 1993. Then in Vojens great day had Tony Rickardsson. His partners that day were Per Jonsson and Henrik Gustafsson (reserved). Last year during Speedway Best Pairs Swedish team took 6th place with 20 points. Most points for Bosse Wirebrand’s team scored Peter Ljung – 8. Six points scored Andreas Jonsson and Antonio Lindbaeck. 9. Andreas Jonsson 10. Antonio Lindbaeck 19. Peter Ljung Russia - interesting thing about this team is the fact that they never won any medal in Pair Championships (earlier they started as USSR). But during all these years they had many great riders. Last year on Motoarena Russia won regular phase but they lost in a great final of ESBT with Poles. On a second place of the podium were then: Emil Sajfutdinow, Grugorij Laguta and his brother Artiom. 11. Emil Sayfutdinov 12. Artem Laguta 20. Aleksandr Loktajew Germany - the only medal which German team won in World Pairs Championships was in 1977 in Manchester (then as the Federal Republic of Germany). Egon Muller and Hans Wassermann were worse only than England and Sweden. The bronze medal so far has been the biggest success of German team which got a chance to show a good speedway in on their land, Landshut (10th of May). This will be the first start of Germans since the tournament in Poznan (20th of July 1991) when Klaus Lauch and Tommy Dunker took fourth place after Norway. 13. Martin Smolinski 14. I have no problems with the meetings but don't lie about them. Comparing them to past World Pairs Titles is lies and fraudulent - maybe thats acceptable on mainland Europe but it's not in the UK. One trusts that the line-ups are going to be as published ahead of the meeting. Hopefully others will produce their racecards too so that there is a good range of choices. It looks to have the potential to be an excellent competition with lots of angles. One small example i'm finding it intriguing to see how Martin Smolinski fares mixing with top riders in a competitive meeting ahead of his SGP series debut. Incidentally with Artem Laguta being listed in the above page from the website is he therefore a direct replacement for Grigory Laguta meaning the latter was destined not to be in the team? or has he simply been moved up the order from reserve and Aleksandr Loktaev has been inserted new?
