Hamish McRaker 601 Posted December 1, 2016 Is it time for speedway to follow snooker, and for riders to all have nicknames used in the pre-match introductions?

The White Knight 9,039 Posted December 1, 2016 Is it time for speedway to follow snooker, and for riders to all have nicknames used in the pre-match introductions? They do - or did - when I went to Newcastle.
Bagpuss 10,780 Posted December 2, 2016 Used to have them at Peterborough too. Not really my cup of tea but may well appeal to kids etc. Seems to work quite well with darts so perhaps would in the SGP in future?
steve roberts 9,246 Posted December 2, 2016 (edited) Of course the Americans of the 80s & 90s always seemed to have Nicknames...some quite bizarre! There was 'Boogolo' Schwartz, 'Jellyman' Moran, 'Miracle Worker' Moran, 'Rocket' Ron, 'Cowboy' Cook, 'Bullet' Hamill etc etc (did Penhall ever have a nickname?) And of course the best of the lot...'Five Flavours' Pfetzing! Edited December 2, 2016 by steve roberts
False dawn 2,298 Posted December 2, 2016 Joonas Cup of Coffee or if you're slighty more up market Timo Lahti did Penhall ever have a nickname? Announcer Larry Huffman (Costa Mesa) nicknamed him Bruce (The Fox) Penhall and "Juicy Brucey." Miracle Worker' MoranOr the greatest miracle worker, of course, "Mirac" Ronnie Moore
martin_t 219 Posted December 2, 2016 Is it time for speedway to follow snooker, and for riders to all have nicknames used in the pre-match introductions? No.I hate that sort of thing.Same goes for each player(also in darts) having their own tunes playing as they walk on. Mind you I might change my mind if a certain Chinese player entered the hall to The Pipkins "Gimme dat ding"

Maybe the BSPA can hire Rob Walker to give things a much-needed makeover. I'm just wondering which rider would have the nickname "Interesting". Hamish McRaker 601 Posted December 2, 2016 Justin "more letters than Numbers " Elkins , e/f e/f e/f 2 +2 That's the stuff! It all just needs a bit more imagination and thinking outside the box. Nicknames have got so boring and predicatable. For example - rather than Scott "Scotty" Nicholls - make it Scott "The Suffolk Punch" Nicholls And how about Adam "Meccano" Roynon?
