foamfence 2,917 Posted March 2, 2017 sorry but being based in the north east 17,000 seems poor compared to Newcastle, Sunderland or Middlesbrough, ok I'll qualify it - only football seems capable of pulling a decent crowd in Bradford Also I notice their average jumped 5,000 to the figure you quote in one season - the average over the previous five years was nearer 10,000 - what did they do? They brought out more affordable season tickets and the people responded. They prefer a well attended stadium rather than a half empty one. It worked well because their travelling away support increased as well.
R87 476 Posted March 2, 2017 Bradford never had brilliant crowds in the 80s and 90s - though the size of the stadium made it more obvious. And this wasn't a club that constantly finis bottom either. They were always a good cup side, won a league championship and had some very good riders as well. A shame as it was quality track, especially for big meetings
The White Knight 9,039 Posted March 2, 2017 Bradford closed a number of times because not enough people went to watch speedway at Odsal at a time when crowds were much higher. Bradford Bulls keep going bust because they don't get big enough crowds to pay the bills for a professional rugby club, Bradford City draw poor crowds. Perhaps Bradford isn't a big sports-loving city. So despite how good the racing used to be running htere is likely to be a financial disaster waiting to happen If England played a Cricket Match against Pakistan they would fill the place to overflowing. Just saying......................... :D

Second only to Sheffield United in their divison and crowds well above Championship cubs in the above division. Not sure what your definition of poor crowds are ? mikebv 10,273 Posted March 5, 2017 If England played a Cricket Match against Pakistan they would fill the place to overflowing. Just saying......................... :D Same in Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester, etc etc etc... As the ethnicity of major cities has changed and in particular those areas in the immediate vacinity of a Speedway track, hardly anything has been done to attract the 'Asian' locals.. The majority population on your doorstep but nothing done to get them to attend..? Seems a strange business plan.. Even more so when you consider the culture of motor cycle riding on the sub continent, and the well above average number of kids in an Asian family..

They used to visit schools in Bradford and bring busloads of kids to meetings but it rarely proved to be habit forming for any of them.

Cost them about £1m Just saying ...................... Edited March 5, 2017 by tyke

If someone cleans their windows in the Highfields area of Leicester then that will attract a good audience. Cheap 'people'.

steve roberts 9,246 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) You from Leicester Long Eye? We need an Asian rider, that would pak them in! Remember the White City promotion talking about how a West Indian rider may have attracted a largely West Indian community (Shepherd's Bush) from attending the speedway...of course nothing came of it and I believe that West Indians and Asians don't see watching sport (other than cricket) as high on their radar must do! keef robin 551 Posted March 7, 2017 Then they would have had to include an Irish rider as well to satisfy the local population.

Very true, Cricket is almost a religion, I can't quite see Speedway getting to that level.
