cityrebel 2,960 Posted October 1, 2017 I reckon only 50 out of the 4500 crowd watching thought the ref made the right decision in heat 1 😤4500!, that's an excellent crowd. I doubt if there was 300 at Eastbourne last night, in yet another rain affected meeting.
spanner47 336 Posted October 1, 2017 I never blame the ref for 3rd bend incidents at Foxhall, I use to stand on the 3rd bend and always complained about the decisions, until I sat in the refs box one night and realised what an awful view he had.
crazysue 613 Posted October 1, 2017 That was our issue with knowing what had happened with Nicholls and Greaves, our only pointer that something HAD gone on was the amount of noise from the fans who could see clearly.
2ndbendbeerhut 1,781 Posted October 1, 2017 If nicholls had took greaves off he would have been excluded for it, it was bang infront of me and nicholls had passed him on the straight and greaves turned left onto nicholls back wheel resulting in him falling off on his own accord. Correct decision for him to be excluded. No he didn't. Ref had to guess the decesion as couldn't see the incident properly due to the tractors on the centre green. An experienced track specialist like Nicholls knew exactly what he was doing.... and where! Nicholls turned right on Greaves, which was seen by most of the fans. Rerun videos would have got a good view..
cowboy cookie returns? 747 Posted October 1, 2017 Well last night had all that speedway needs to make it a great night out. Big crowd, great atmosphere (can't remember the last time i could hear cheering when a pass was made) decent racing & someone for the home crowd to be hostile to the ref & a certain Sheffield number one (however i'm sure all will be forgiven when he is a Witch next season) I can't really comment on the performance last night as it was a very rare trip for me to Foxhall these days.......however more of that next season & no double points & some other tweaks I might be tempted back to more than twice a season.
Catalan 717 Posted October 1, 2017 And thats how it should be. without fans speedway has nothing. Well done Sheffield Would never happen at Poole though.

2ndbendbeerhut 1,781 Posted October 1, 2017 (edited) Last night had.... Great crowd but thought there would have been many more away fans being a Saturday night victory within touch. Decent racing but that's more down to 2 evenly matched sides, Well done Sheffield..rather than what you would see against a team not bothered (Peterborough A fixture to name just 1) A little bit of early controversy to get the fans "interacting" If only more meetings could be like that... However what was disappointing was the reaction by many new fans to the night. Spoke to a few and all said the same. "what was going on." 1.both teams have same colours so hard to see who was who. Helmet colours.. What? 2.didnt know score as nothing was explained (eg 3 2 1 0) and scoreboard was hard to see. 3. Most importantly the PA system was yet again 💩 was told that Kevin Long had been replaced and Craig Saul was on the Mic. Didn't matter as didn't hear what was he was saying. This needs sorting and to repeat what I've said in the past is a health and safety issue. The biggest crowd for years and if anything had happened in the stadium the public would not have been given clear instructions on what to do. Oh well always next year...... Ps. After their crashes hope both Kyle and Nathan ok. Along with Cam they should be 1st 3 names on any team sheet Edited October 1, 2017 by 2ndbendbeerhut
SharpenRake 1,505 Posted October 1, 2017 Congratulations to Sheffield. They finished top and thankfully won the play offs. With the loss of Josh things could have gone pear shaped which would have been a travesty and it's why I dislike using play offs to determine the league champions. Also well done to Simon Stead

Seems elevation or lack of it is an issue. Maybe they need to relocate the ref's box to a newly built crow's nest type arrangement? After their crashes hope both Kyle and Nathan ok. Along with Cam they should be 1st 3 names on any team sheet We explained the rules (well the ones that people can understand) on the way up in the car and then told them which helmet colours to look out for and the names of the riders to shout for before each heat, so got around that issue. The PA was one of the reasons I moved back to the home straight and right in front of the speaker, didn't miss a thing said (apart from when the mic was playing silly beggers in the beginning), did miss Kevin though. CookieIpswich 249 Posted October 1, 2017 Nicholas definitely had greaves in the fence without question, greaves had the outside line and was ahead, Scott turned into him that was intentional but did he mean to put him in the fence, probably not Greaves has been riding the crest of a wave recently and maybe another youngster would have shut off completely, can say racing incident but the wrong guy got excluded Sure if Scott is back next year all will be forgiven, he played his part in an entertaining evening and quite sure he enjoyed winding the crowd up a little too, he did so with a smile on his face Congratulations Sheffield, was there really 4500 there?
