steve roberts 9,246 Posted July 23, 2019 Difficult to believe that Paul died thirty years ago (4th July). I remember him riding for Oxford 'Cubs' whilst at Cowley. Recall his dad mechanicing for him. Forever remembered.

Terry 1,319 Posted July 23, 2019 After harmlessly sliding off Paul was terribly unlucky to have an inexperienced junior named Nick Floyd-who I believe retired soon after-following him. He seemed to panic and tried to ride around Paul, but there wasn't room and he hit him. I remember the very next week Barry Thomas instantly laying his bike down when someone fell inches in front of him, and everyone saying if only there had been a more experienced rider following Paul he would have been fine. RIP Paul.

I remember Paul, he was unusual, especially at the time, as he was a mixed race young man. And I remember his dad, who was a black man. It happened at Hackney, the old Hackney track, I recall. daveallan81 330 Posted July 25, 2019 The first time I saw Paul was in what was probably the biggest meeting of his career. He was meeting reserve for the 1984 N.L.R.C. at Wimbledon and he got a ride when Steve Lawson touched the tapes in heat 4. I seem to recall him arriving with his family in an old red Avenger with the bike strapped to the back.
