Similar to the effect Emil had particularly the first year he rode for Ipswich it was quoted by fans and promoters at the time his visit put more bum on seats at every away track - if uk speedway can somehow produce a better product and entice the some top end riders back then the route to more fans through the gate regularly is there

I admire the confidence Mick, and I agree that the case is stronger now than it was at closure. I’d just be a little cautious about underestimating PCC. They have experienced planning officers, legal advice, years of involvement with this site and a national policy climate strongly favouring housing delivery. An independent Inspector is obviously important, but independence doesn’t necessarily mean the outcome will go our way. We’ve already seen PCC rely on the argument that the wider benefits of development outweigh the loss, so I don’t think we can assume the planning case is straightforward. The important thing now is to show where removal of the existing safeguards creates weaknesses or contradictions within the Plan itself. I’m sure that Forever Panthers are on the case and don’t need advice from me. I’m certainly more encouraged than I was, but I think confidence in the case and confidence in the eventual outcome are two slightly different things. We are effectively at the last-chance stage now, which probably tells us all we need to know about taking anything for granted. -
Yep in 1985 Martin Rogers spent a few quid on Courtney and Paul Woods with neither signing working out. I think Lee made his comeback that year but only rode in less than half of the fixtures. Jessup, Hellsen, Jolly and Regeling made up the test of the team but nobody stepped up to replace John Louis who retired after the 1984 season. A team full of second strings which of course finished bottom.

I agree, however, getting more away fans in will automatically mean better atmosphere, which, in turn, will encourage more home fans to visit more regularly... The play offs show the reach of the respective clubs as their crowds sometimes double, and more... The reason? They actually looks like they have something riding on them (pardon the pun).. The challenge is to make every meeting "an event" which stands alone to engage people to attend .. The support is out there, as many, many meetings show.. It's just the lack of any real jeopardy or consequence, that keep people away until the back end of the season, and then any momentum is lost as the season ends . I mentioned the Wolves matches of the 90's earlier. I never missed them, nor did many others who, like me, didn't attend every week.. It's a virtuous circle, get a decent crowd, then you generate atmosphere, generate atmosphere and you generate further decent crowds, with word of mouth hopefully increasing them further . I also never missed Nicki P riding at Belle Vue. A perfect pantomime villian... And also what was noticeable when Nicki P visited was the larger then usual crowd to see him race against Jason Crump... The blueprint is there, and has been used successfully, they just need to start to use it again, but using a 2026 fit for purpose version of it .. A minimum of 50 or so, vocal away fans at every track would be a good start in generating some much needed atmosphere... A real opportunity for promoters...

A Premiership club would struggle to get Mikkel Andersen over! Glasgow or anyone else in the Championship, zero chance. -

More serious than your proposed team. Remind me again what the Glasgow Tigers won in 2026. Couldn't even edge out the Monarchs in the BSN Series. But yeah sure bring Flint and Hodder back if winning is no longer important to Tigers fans. -

We’ve been putting our case forward since closure. They are aware of this, some councillors desperately want us to naff off, we’re not going anywhere. If anything our case is getting stronger. I can’t wait to speak in front of a proper independent knowledgeable government planning inspector, our council are going to get their backsides kicked hard. They have massively under estimated us and our supporters who I must say have been magnificent throughout this process. I am more confident now since closure that Speedway will return to Peterborough. -

Serious post? -
Always make the away fans feel welcome and try to make try to make it financially possible , entry, transport costs , access , not easy I know in this ever increasing financially insecure times , especially with the ever increasing fuel costs.

Totally agree, didn't do the 70's and 80's any harm with crowd numbers.Plenty of burning witches etc. As regard betting firms on a race night,if it brings in more punters how could that be wrong. What's wrong with someone who likes a flutter, even i would put a pound or two on a race😁

I didn't like the way the team was built for 2026 and perhaps the strategy of trying to get 3 heat leaders squeezed into the team should change and the Tigers should go down the Scunthorpe route and entice Josh Pickering to Glasgow and fill the rest of the team with Tate Zisckshe's and KJP's and someone like Andersen the GP2 winner on a five point average and then back them up with stronger reserves like Eddie Kennett. -
It's a shame they don't have the tactical black and white helmet in the Polish League. Wroclaw sending Artem out as the joker for double points would have been super fun The old 8-1 in the British Elite League used to change meetings so dramatically. Who can forget Peterborough vs Reading in 2006? Tonight's final could be similar to that. What do you think @racers and royals
