What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
TTT replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Don't take this the wrong way as I'm really not trying to offend you or any other Poole fan here. That's exactly why Poole should prop the PREM up considering they're the next target for The Grim Reaper Osborne. Wednesday Night's shouldn't hold much pull in a AGM discussion when Poole haven't really got a future to risk. Only real problem is finances but the PREM Clubs can come to a contractual agreement with Poole that states any financial losses will be covered in full to ensure that the Ford Family break even on the season. -

Obviously none of us know the financial details of TV deals and/or sponsorship only what we pick up from different sources. Watling JCB have been on board at Leicester since our CL days so I doubt their financial input is anywhere near what the TV deal delivered. I agree that Doyley will more likely than not be back at Ippo next year (if Ippo run) but he is on the down slope of his career, is married to an English woman with a young kid and lives in Norwich, so that probably works for him to earn a bit of extra bunce on a Thursday night. He is very much the exception to the rule of the GP/Ekstraliga contingent though. -
Yes with Hans Neilsen's Brovst team joining the Danish top league it's a no brainer for TVT, and as we know with Danish fixtures on Wednesdays, Poole was no longer an option despite as he says in his fb video Poole wanting him back. He's also signed up in Sweden and signed his UK contract (4.81) too - probably given to him by Garry May in the Poole pits eh Lewy?đđ¤Ł

The amalgamated league as recommended by Lord Shawcross came into effect in 1965. Norwich had already closed so no Ove and Knutsson retired after winning the world title in 1964. Briggs was the only really world class rider remaining from the original club of 5 greats. Speedway didnât collapse and in fact thrived with more opportunities to young riders and those who had been jogging along in the then lower provincial league. -

I guarantee Ipswich will still have Doyle with or without a TV deal in a PREM league. Everything is fine on the Sponsorship front, Without being bias towards Ipswich even JCB has already renewed with Leicester for 2026. -

Because finances is only 1 out of 3 reasons why Poole won't move up. Other 2 are race nights and only having short term future at the stadium. They said recently in the local press they wouldn't move up until they had long term future at the stadium. -

That's what Carl Johnson said on the podcast. But he also said Peterborough are not in a position to join the league yet, as we don't have a track. -
On Facebook now Peterborough been asked join the league

Just seen Thomsen wont be at Poole in 2026 due to Danish commitments... A perfect pick up for Plymouth at 2

But staying on the south coast?

Why doesn't Harry Redknapp invest some finances into Poole in order to get them running at PREM level? - Today

The TV deals (especially the more recent ones) allowed the PL clubs to afford their number 1's and attract sponsorship, without it they're in the same boat as every other club. -
Now confirmed Tobias departs for 2026.

You bring in ârider controlâ and you then run the risk of pi$$ing off a large number of riders who are forced to either ride somewhere they donât want to and for less money than they could have gotten elsewhere, or knock it on the head completely. The whole thing is a sh!tshow and there really are no easy and obvious solutions. No wonder the AGM has been delayed. -

TNT Deal wasn't great tbh, It was more about getting the Sport on TV. Unfortunately TNT didn't really put any effort in but I'm not surprised considering they already got rid of it previously. In TNT's eyes they just got lumbered with British Speedway when the EUROSPORT takeover happened. -
Thanks for that. It seems that it may all be from the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy as the Don's rider is Olle Nygren who was in that event and it would explain the helmet colours which had puzzled me. I was actually at the Aces v Diamonds match that season, which was late in the season and much too dark to be filming second half racing. Looks like a cracking race between Mauger and Fundin.

Ove Fundin rode for Norwich in 1964 and Bjorn Knutson for West Ham. Also Barry Briggs (World Champion in 1964) rode for Swindon. -

Because everything will be null and void if a change in League Structure happend. So effictively they'll be wasting their time. Literally no point in a CHAMP Club even announcing another signing as it means nothing until a 6 Team PREM is 100% official. -

PREM needs changing, I 100% Agree. I'd start with a One Rider Over 8.00 Per Team to ensure that everyone has a big hitter. I'd then bring in another rule that states both Reserve positions have be filled by British Youngsters (No Older than 24) but a grading system will be in place to ensure that a particular Club or Clubs don't sign 2 Ringers like Leon Flint and Dan Thompson. I'd have a Tier 1 List for Riders like Flint & D. Thompson, Then I'd have a Tier 2 List for Riders like Freddy Hodder & Vinnie Foord.....Clubs can only sign 1 Rider from each list to ensure that everyone has a strong No.6. That'll lower the wage bill a bit and it'll invest more when it comes to British Youngsters. -

Without a TV deal the PL clubs are as hard up, if not more so, than the CL clubs, I doubt they'll be able to afford to out bid many of the financially viable CL clubs. -

This might not go down well with some people on here , but why dont the Championship Promoters get on with the job of building there teams to a 40 point limit, 2 home and away against each team in the Championship, Have the draw for the KO CUP,BSN Trophy Sections. name their Teams and leave the Prem to sort out their own bloody mess, that will take until Jan to resolve. Glasgow and Poole will NOT be moving up,which would be financial disaster for both, and no other Championship side would survive. -

I think youâll agree the current set up is all wrong and needs changing Thatâs why itâs in the state itâs in. The fact that everything has to be to the clubs own personal liking, what league they race in etc makes the sports professional status laughable. Whereâs the ambition in this sport? Just surviving each year ? 5 teams in 1 division, 9 or 10 in the other ? Another year of same old same old ahead with promoters doing whatâs best for them, never mind the sportâs future. Theyâre on borrowed time with that Iâm alright jack attitude.
