  1. Past hour
  2. Gone but not forgotten. Fortunately a new breed of promoters recognise the opportunity and the “how” to stop and reverse the current trend. As in business the solution resides in an approach based on running a profitable business not an affordable hobby. Big changes required, quite a few feathers to be ruffled together with a few home truths to be learned. I hope it happens.
  3. Dreadful state of affairs but I bet Harry and Linda have earned well out of it for near zero effort.
  4. He's still got an average over 8. And he's pure box office. He might not win as many races as in previous years but when he does the crowd go home talking about it. Any rider who brings fans through the turnstiles is worth considering, surely.
  5. Back in the 70’s, a time in history when football hooliganism at matches was rife and speedway was the “family sport” (a phrase coined because of the nature of the fans behaviour which meant folk could attend meetings without fear) on track rivalry was fierce and indeed fans were tribal. Lots of chanting, massive amounts of loud cheering for both individual riders and respective teams. Rivalry was fierce and the anticipation of respective number ones going against each other raised both the tension and the noise in the stadium. And yes the racing was every bit a good as today. Coleman is absolutely right, rivalry & tribalism should absolutely be part of the experience, something that will add to the means of attracting returning or new supporters. Something the current sterile situation evidentially fails to do.
  6. At the risk of repeating myself, surely the starting marshal has a part to play here. He could not be completely oblivious to what was going on and could have brought it to the referee's attention. Yes, maybe the referee should be aware anyway. But all officials have a responsibility to ensure fair play.
  7. LOL! As if people are going to start hurling abuse at pensioners. If we did morph into Football fans then you'd only end up copping the lot at every Aces meeting as you'd stick out like a sore thumb.
  8. I think the speedway will continue especially now we reached another final. i believe Robs gonna sitback and concentrate on Stocks and the Sundays amateurs and practice days paving the way for a new promotor or promotor/manager, he can then concentrate on his garage and the weekends, I quess Davids concentrating full time with Dougy?
  9. Wouldn’t mind a top two of Flint and Thompson. I don’t think Flint’s ready to be a number one, but Thompson might be. Add Zischke and Hooder, that’s a promising first four. I do like the idea of Vinnie Foord joining Hodder at reserve. Gutted Berwick have retained Morris and Battye. Think they’d have been huge additions with every possibility of adding to their average. Wouldn’t be surprised to see KJP back, but hope it doesn’t happen. Doubt Harris will be back. Sad, but this has been a poor season by his usual standards. He didn’t say as much, but his post-meeting interview against Scunthorpe last week had tones of a leaving speech.
  10. Think Harris will only go if he wants to. The owners go on about wanting to keep providing the best, most exciting, racing and when Harris is on it you get that better than most riders. He has been quite inconsistent this year but that's made his average lower which helps for team building.
  11. He was warming his tyre before heat eight which is an illegal action, as deemed by not just the sport of speedway, but FIM. The rules on it are black and white: if you do it, you’re excluded. Cairns did it and wasn’t. He subsequently won the race and until heat fourteen, it was the only time any rider had done so from gate three. Like I said, I really rate Cairns and found him pure entertainment against Redcar. We could all argue until we’re blue in the face about whether or not he gained an unfair advantage, but the rules are very simple; it’s illegal. Here’s the incident:
  12. Surely stay well clear of Kemp next season. Hes about as useful as a wallet full of johnnys in a bar full of lesbians. Batchelor would be my first name on the team sheet, hes been brilliant for Worky this year. Jeppesen has dropped off massively in the second half of the season, if it was purely injury related then he would also have to be a cert.
  13. Dan Thompson and Flint as top two. Throw in Tate Z and a strong reserve and build around that. Pedersen will probably feature on his average. As i said earlier in season, Harris has dropped off a fair bit this year (despite Berwicks resident Dick telling me other wise) and theres not much value in him. Hes getting on in age now as well.
  14. Today
  15. When we beat you in the semi final at your place, the cameras shown alot of your fans leaving the stadium at heat 14. I out on my belle vue Facebook group that you seen the aces now f off home. A little joke, and the response from people was wild saying this is not football. That that attitude elsewhere we dont need this in speedway. Well yes, yes we do need this. It needs to become tribal. Ive always said get rid of the family sport image because end of the day its bikes with no brakes, with riders risking there life every single heat. Thats extreme. And should be sold as an extreme sport. I said to one speedway club owner. I wont name sorry, we need to bring in betting firms on race nights. More people will come if you can bet on races at the track. And his response was we dont want that type of people at speedway. Crazy Bring tribalism back
  16. The cad. And dangerous too with these tyres. According to Lightcap, the track was really slick so maybe Will was just trying to wear away some of the nobblies so his tyre would slide across the shiny surface?
  17. It was "Guest" room!!! 😁 Baddam Tish!!!
  18. Brady is far above Lightcap as a prospect (and looks better than Becker was on the same tracks). He definitely passes the eyeball test and should go far.
  19. Yesterday
  20. LINE-UP: Joe Thompson, Danny King, Sam Masters, Tom Brennan, Kye Thomson, Scott Nicholls, Cooper Rushen, Zach Cook, Max Fricke, Tate Zischke, Justin Sedgmen, Anders Rowe, Josh Pickering, Slater Lightcap, Nick Morris, Luke Harrison. Reserves: Harry Fletcher, Charlie Southwick.
  21. Speedway is a strange sport. Garrity is naturally getting all kinds of negative press because of what he did, and rightly so. The fact is, if he did come back and did well for a club, a lot of people would put his past to one side.
  22. Its on BSN, so pay per view. I'd like to see the full lineup, although there will likely be even more changes.
  23. What a great evening of speedway. That was a really enjoyable meeting. Well done to Scunthorpe for preparing a track for entertainment. A good win for the Scorpions but Poole are just too strong. Ten down after six heats and the momentum with the home side, but credit to the Pirates; they respond when the chips are down. Felt like Rushen’s win in heat ten was massive for Poole. I think we’re so accustomed to his performances, we forget he’s only 16. Incredible. I defended Cairns against Redcar, but heat eight was outright cheating and the referee failing to address it was unacceptable. Well done David Howe for highlighting it on BSN before the last heat. It didn’t look good for Middleditch; he just stood there looking at the ground, speechless. Looking forward to the second leg and praying Poole prepare a track worthy of a grand final finish.
