Birmingham v Sheffield Mon 4th August PL2

First and last visit to Perry Barr last night! As a Somerset and now a Plymouth fan I saw my best meeting of the season so far at the Coliseum on Saturday and possibly the worst one last night! Gate and go by Sheffield for easy easy win but Birmingham just couldn't make a start. Track was awful, was stood between start gate and first bend in front of the grandstand and it was like Motocross bumping into bend one. Quite amazed only Jeppesen fell! I can imagine the Barker nomination in heat 15 was that he was up for it when others weren't. You always get max effort from Ben but it certainly wasn't a surface that he thrives on! My son said when are they using a tac sub but in honesty it wouldn't have made any difference. Probably the easiest max Jack has ever scored and probably same goes for Leon too. Picko was good value as always and managed one of the only passes of the night around the outside. Finally the guy on the centre green, how quicky did he want to announce the riders on parade and why bother talking over the final lap of a race???? -

yes he was gifted a point when Jeppesen fell in his first ride where he moved at the start then missed it (and had a warning from the ref after the heat) but after that he was in the mix every race. Another couple of meetings and he is going to make a lot of doubter's eat there words. -
I stopped attending KL after the fiasco a few years back against Leicester when they only had 1 ambulance at the track and the meeting was held up for over an hour before being abandoned... I then gave them a reprieve when they ran into difficulties after the Brady/Laguta issues and started going again, only to be rewarded by going over from Leicester 3 times last season and not seeing a single meeting raced... needless to say they are back on my banned list again.

Super Heat - Why its not right!!
IainB replied to dontforgetthefueltapsbruv's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It's not something I can't get too excited about either way tbh... on the one hand I do enjoy an extra heat with pretty high stakes, a whole league point... but on the other hand it seems a pretty easy way to get a league point with the one race that normally would take 15 to achieve and is obviously stacked in favour of the team that has 2 big guns. On balance, it's probably not something the sport "needed"- 1 reply

Hey Roger by my reckoning using the score sheet even if Lidsey had won his first 2 races, we would still have been 6 points behind by heat 7 so would have still been able to use Brady as a T/S. so based on that and the fact R/R only got 5 points, i think it safe to assume that BV won have almost certainly won a drawn meeting with Lidsey riding. Glad to clear it up:)

From the early days of Mr Bowden to where plymouth are now. It's like chalk and cheese. Yes the current promotion have made a few questionable decisions along the way. But right now Pkymouth speedway is probably in the best place it's been in recent years. Plymouth is hindered by its location (although it's always been here,as far as im aware ) and transport infrastructure. On a positive note regarding Klindt, with all the guests used, the management are in a good position to see who rides the arena well for next year. -
So whoever does the Proboards updates blamed the lack of grip on the start line for Lynn's woes, as it played into the Lions hands (or should that be paws). Obviously this person has never been to Leicester in the last 5 seasons as they rip the start line before the meeting to produce what I feel is the grippiest start in British Speedway. This was the last meeting that I will attend at Kings Lynn this season as the last three times been there has been a delayed start for whatever reason which causes me to miss the end of the meeting as I need to be on the last train back to London at 21:42. I cannot think of another sport that is so amateurish as to have delayed starts. At times the sport does not help itself. Last week delayed for a big crowd, this week for additional track prep.

Whilst it is almost certain Belle Vue would have won with Lidsey, you can't start a home meeting like that, if Lidsey had been riding Belle Vue would still have been 8 down after 2 races. Ouch will tell you they don't change their team mid season but maybe changing Tate and possibly Blodorn should have been considered, don't know who for but Glasgow got Nagel so there are options out there.

An honourable principle to provide an exciting crescendo to a meeting and give fans an extra race in order to decide a winner However..... It is flawed by the fact that it means teams score what could be valuable match points that are not available to all competitors It cannot be right that teams drawing meetings can ultimately earn more points In a league scenario much tighter than this seasons cut and dried top 4 it could easily decide who qualifies for the play offs Example Team A has finished on 40 points and sit in 3rd place with a healthy race points advantage over those below Teams B and C are on 39 and 36 points respectively with a home and away double between them remaining So Team A are safely in the play offs right? Whatever combination of win lose draw between B and C it would be impossible to split the 5 points and see both overhaul Team A Hold my beer - here comes the super heat!! 2 draws later and 5 match points becomes 7 seeing Team A dumped from the play off positions

Not severe criticism, but I agree that Brennan didn't ride defensively against Cook. Coming off the second bend he went madly wide, and then off the fourth bend his back wheel wasn't on the grip, so he couldn't match Cook who got his wheels in line perfectly. Heat 8 was a disaster. King didn't even look competitive. No idea what happened, unless he thought that everything had gone so well that he needed to make some changes?!

So odd that Iversen was hopeless at Leicester last week and yet is great tonight - coversely Klindt and Harris both have stinkers etc. (am aware track etc) Confirms for me is that Leicester are on a roll - great to see Joe Thompsn getting more points now, he seems to be on a slower trajectory to Dan but he is making progess!

He is probably Clark Osborne?

But why only add to the value for money if there's a draw? What's so special about that result, which requires an extra race? What about a team only losing by 2 or 4, and earning another race to try to win or draw? Sone teams could go all season without a Stupid Heat, while others could have three or four. If they want to add value for money, add an extra heat (or two) to every match anyway ...
