What Can Be Done For Young British Riders.
Daniel Smith replied to Jonny the spud's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I believe there is a major misconception when it comes to what international riders receive from clubs. There are some extreme examples but in the main most riders from abroad still have to find their own way. It's only the young potential superstars that gets sponsors & clubs throwing stuff at them but that about 2 out of 10. That is no different to potential young British superstars. Tai Woffinden is one example and now potentially Robert Lambert but they still had to work their bloody asses off. You tend to find also that a lots of the sponsorship logos on foreign riders equipment are from abroad anyway and the majority buy their own gear. You regularly hear of foreign riders asking for and getting paid LESS than Brits. Something else that needs clearing up is this nonsense that flights are paid for. Again, there are some extremes but nearly all foreign riders have to pay and organise their own travel expense. It's been that way since the mid to late 90's. The only travel expenses covered are those from base to away track. Whether that's the airport, UK home etc. No different to how the British rider's are treated. Some people don't like Twitter but I can tell you, it's a massive education in attitude differences between Brits & our foreign counterparts. While the Brits like to pee about having great nights out getting off their face chasing birds about the foreign guys are all about advertising themselves, searching sponsorship, searching out clubs, training hard, practising hard, already building equipment for next year etc etc. Truth hurts but it's absolutely correct what someone has put on here earlier. Brits expect it to be handed on a plate and go out and p!ss it up. Here's my opinion. Get off ya lazy ass and go get it done. The hardest working and the best always find a way to the top. IMO the international riders have it tougher but they work harder to establish them selves. -
No Sky Or League Sponsorship Money Etc...
Daniel Smith replied to Phil's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Let's get one thing straight and build on this Right now the Elite League has no TV rights and no league sponsorship. Team average is set to be reduced and clubs having to release their number 1's. We can certainly forget about reduced admission costs. They will still continue to rise simply because as seen with the Premier League some of those clubs are only a £1 or 2 less than the EL. No "superstars" in that league. With the admission costs remaining the same or rising and lower team averages, how will the EL become a better product???? It's quite simple for me. Strength in depth. We should look at structuring the teams with say, No1's can only have an average 2 points higher than the 5th rider in the team and the reserves minimum average increased to 4.00 I believe this alone will make meeting far more exciting rather than just the one or two races peer meeting we get today because of the gulf between the No1's and bottom end of the team -
The 2012 season is almost over so my thought's now shift to 2013 and already looking forward to it. In your opinion who stays & who goes???? For me, out goes all the Poles & Nermark. In comes a little of the 2011 dream team. The Bjerre Bros and the 2nd best American in the World right now, Ryan Fisher (future GP star (were have I heard that before )) September averages. Team build 41 points 1, K Bjerre 8.18 2, L Bjerre 4.92 3, Korneliussen 7.02 4, Fisher 6.02 5, Schlein 7.23 6, Smith 3.73 + another 7, North 3.47 + another Ave = 40.57 (0.43 to add to either or both double-up positions) Obviously Kozza is a risk but the lad want to make it. A decent double up partner should be available while he regains fitness in the Premier League. Come on then folks, show your hand. What you got to better that team

How easy was that. The most underwhelming Elite League playoff final for some some time Congratulations Poole

Not quite. He's signed as an asset to the club, not necessarily to ride next season from what I can make out at the moment.

Doubling Up - Should It Be Allowed?
Daniel Smith replied to iand's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Doubling up is an absolute must for the riders and the Elite League. Admittedly it is less important for the Premier League. For D/U to work to it's maximum potential it's an absolute must that the Elite League move to 2 race nights a week. Preferably Monday and Wednesday as none of the PL side's race those nights. This then removes the 'priority' rule, also removes a lot of 'guests and R/R' for the EL and would genuinely be better for British Speedway as a whole. The next step to double up is remove the maximum EL conversion. Instead of 7.2 being the maximum EL double up, I'd make it open to any rider with the same or above riders get the 12.00 PL average. Then on from that, any rider's taking up the D/U facility can not ride in any other European 'Elite League'. If they wish to take up an 'Elite' position then they have to give up a position for their British club. So, without restricting European trade laws I think this will make home grown Brits more attractive to both EL and PL promoters as European riders won't want to give up their top league positions just to ride over here. -

Kind of correct. Peterborough supplied the air fence and the staff to erect and dismantle it. Track staff and equipment was as normal at the NA -
Pearson Defends The Play-off... Desperate
Daniel Smith replied to TheReturn's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The hatred of Nigel and Kelv has gone on for years and it's pathetic. They actually do a great job, well I suppose it's did a great job for speedway on Sky now it's all over. They do annoy me at times but that annoyance is no different to some of the football, cricket, F1 commentator's. I'm probably just 1 of a very few but I hope Sky don't renew the speedway contract. Perfect opportunity to strip the sport back and start again. This could be a major step forward to saving speedway's future in the UK.- 169 replies

And to think we've got to watch that in next years GP's. I thought it would be impossible to have anyone else worse than Dryml in the series -

Birmingham V Poole Grand Final 2nd Leg
Daniel Smith replied to pirateandi's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The meeting is shocking to watch and can't be assed watching the presentation so England v Poland it is -
And there's the problem. Frost and Ford CAN afford to pay the demands of the rider's and we're back to square one. For British speedway as a whole they have to be left out

King's Lynn V Dudley (po Final) - 9th October 2013
Daniel Smith replied to Mimmo's topic in National League Speedway
I have to say, regardless the NL will be just like the Elite and Premier Leagues. Fully competitive and all wanting to win. There are far too many stand alone clubs at NL level to be just a development league. Those clubs want to win and that was shown by the large traveling Dudley fans. Only from a Coventry and King's Lynn perspective can this league be seen as development -

Poole V Birmingham 1st Leg Grand Final

The crowd could be a bit sparse at Perry Barr if this continues or just full of Pirates -
The problem is, admission costs will only go 1 way. We'll never see them go down. Even if you remove all the No'1s at the current prices there will be clubs still struggling to make any profit

I was about to mention that, very very strange. Certainly taints Adrian's victory a little IMO -
It's been a few weeks since the last meeting for the 1st team and I am actually missing it already. I now can't wait for 2014, just wishing the months away for March. Regardless of the structure of the league/s I think it's important the team is structured around Schlein and Korneliussen. The promotion are desperate to include Lambert in the team but I do worry the rules and rule makers may have something to say about that as he doesn't turn 16 until 5th April. Next month we'll know more after the AGM. I would like to see Kerr as a D/U with the return of Porsing also. Hopefully the league structure will allow for Iversen. 1, Iversen 2, Porsing 3, Korneliussen 4, 5, Schlein 6, Kerr D/U 7, Lambert

Tai Woffinden
Daniel Smith replied to David Haddock's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Seeing as some others have admitted to it, I also became emotional when his mum gave him a big hug. I'm sure he was feeling it too hence why he left his Crash Hat on to hide the emotion as he still at the end of that had a meeting to run. The kid was absolutely incredible all season and put his body on the line. I'd have to say, which may upset a few he is the best natural talented British World Champion since Michael Lee. The difference is, he won't destroy his fledgling career and go off the rails. Tai Woffinden is the 2013 Speedway World Champion and deserved. -
