Danish Grand Prix - Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

A BIG well done to all the finalists but especially TRick, obviously. Apart from his obvious talents, his bike is so good!!! His mechanic team deserve serious respect too.

Hampel did Crump a massive favour by staying on the bike then.

Yes he did ,should have came off and got crump excluded. That was definately dirty riding he left him no room at all, and new exactly what he was doing.

I, too, like the new format, it's better for the riders and every point/placing IS important.

It's certainly looking like Tony's year if nothing untoward happens to him, hats off to him I suppose. He's on tip top form that's all you can say.

And with his Bydgoszcz "banker" still to come, there's a chance Gollob will still be in the top 8 come season end.

Making the final in this system has a disproportionate effect. Look at Hampel, he's missed 2 GPs but is there or thereabouts. If you get to a final it catapults you up the order and a win is even better. If he can get his usual 25 points at Bydgoszcz that should be good enough for TG.

One thing is becoming increasingly clear and that is, that if there's to be a British rider in the series next season, it'll be an act of charity by BSI and the FIM.

What a fantasic GP

Okay, of all the over-blown, over-the-top things that Steve Shovlar has ever written on these forums, I'd guess that ranks with the best of them. This GP was far from "fantastic".

The only real difference between last year and this year, is that you get hammered for not making the finals. You fight to make the semis, but if you go out in the semis, you get nothing.

That HAS to be addressed.

I agree totally. I think it has to go back even further to the rider that comes through the meeting with the most points after 5 rides against all others is the winner. Which I would prefer. As it stands at present a rider that is unbeaten from all his races could come third in a semi and not qualify for the final.

Its not speedway racing; to an old fart like myself. Why have a genuine individual meeting where all riders meet all other riders then have semi's and final.? What is the point? Its a bit like the qualifying rounds of previous years.

All previous efforts are wiped clean and then its down to two semis and a final.

It wasn't the starting gate or the track that spoiled tonight's coverage, but Sam Ermolenko's appalling commentating style.

Sam has been a great rider and ambassador for the sport over the years but he should stay out of commentary boxes.

Half of what he says makes no grammatical sense. He is less articulate than my cat, and if I hear the words 'Buddy' and 'wheels in line' much more I'm going to start watching with the sound off.

If a rider has won every singler race up to the semi, they will go home with 15 points, only 1 less than the last placed man in the final. Not exactly a massive drop there!

What is the point of the Semi and Final?

To ensure that the meeting builds to a climax, rather than the winner being known after heat 17, leaving the meeting to fixxle out with 3 pointless races at the end of the event, which is never a satisfactory situation.

All previous efforts are not wiped clean at the semis. The highest point scorers get choice of gate, which should be a major advantage in this sport...Of course, Jason and Greg both showed that you can still get it horribly wrong when you have pick :)

So what happens; as in the old days if you have two riders on 14 or three on 12? A run off. That is your climatic final is it not? Its a successful formula that lasted for about 45 years.
