Topic title unsuccessful Americans,To put Lance King in that bracket is by no means true;

1st year at Cradley 1982 CMA = 6.74

2nd year at Cradley 1983 CMA = 9.11

3rd year at Cradley 1984 CMA =9.19

Also 3rd in World Final so to say he was unsuccessful is slightly of the mark as i said elsewhere unfullfilled potential would be closer to the mark.

Overall the Americans have been very good value, even the so called unsuccessful American's (and there hasn't been that many) add colour and personality.

 

If Lance King was unsuccessful I'll eat a stetsun hat....maybe he wasn't the next penhall like some predicted but he was pretty bloody good.

agreed.. Lance King had the best pedigree of most all the modern era American riders.. Since he was a child, Speedway was all he knew.. Lance was a speedway specialist in the purest form.. He was junior Champion, always had the best equiptment, loads of natural ability.. His father was one of the best tuners in the World as well.. All I can figure, is he burned out a bit early because of starting so young..Great rider.. surely one of the best Americans talent wise.. Anybody know what he is up to these days? I heard he was an instructor for a race car driving school, dont know if that is true or not..

One that we saw little of, but for decadessuperb in California - and did well with Edinburgh - was Mike Faria.

 

Also Bobby Ott, who disappeared fairly quickly...

Have to agree with the posts that cannot understnd why people think Lance King was a failure, okay the guy did not win a World title like he was tipped to but the guy did well.
