Anders` 0 Posted July 23, 2007 Just a thought that has bee causing some debate..... Where was the last 'proper' cinder track? One school of thought was Wigan, the other Stoke. Does anyone out there have the answer?
Grachan 7,362 Posted July 23, 2007 Was Halifax cinders? It was certainly darker than most tracks.
iris123 20,997 Posted July 23, 2007 (edited) Don't think you can just go by colour. There are a number of very dark tracks still here in Germany.Güstrow for instance is very dark grey but don't think they use cinders. Edited July 23, 2007 by iris123

Tsunami 10,219 Posted July 23, 2007 Anders I may be wrong but I have a sneeking feeling that Poole was cinders until late 50s. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Our first and opening meeting in 1997 was on a cinder track made of 'furnace bottoms' from a local Alcan smelter. It was secretly tested right through the 1996/7 winter on paths in the area. After it was laid we compacted it but only produced a crust which could break up. Andre Compton got a spiral fracture at our P and P and the track started to brake up badly in our first meeting. Jesper Olsen broke a collar bone from a crash late in the meeting. A decision was made to ditch it and by the following week the old shale from Cleveland Park was all lifted, transferred to Brough and we had a superb 2nd meeting albeit with guests.
