The reason I came to the conclusion that Harris wasn't the most popular winner was before the final the announcer said who is cheering for .... and both Kennett and Woffinden got a much better reception than Richardson and Harris. Most seemed to be rooting for Woffinden, due to being a youngster not affiliated with Coventry, and then Kennett. Harris was warmly applauded on his win but it certainly wasn't the people's choice of who they would have wanted to lift the title.

A very good meeting overall though.

Still cant say I agree with you Steve but a very fair explaination of your opinion readily accepted.

On current form you would have to say the following have first dibs (in no order):

Rico

Harris

Woffinden

Kennett

Bridger

I dunno - I still think Scotty can do the job - any Showground specialists in the current crew? (i.e does anyone speak Danish?)

Great meeting on a lively and entertaining track - a joy to watch.

Shovlar's projected jealousy also a joy to watch ;)

Nicholls has no confidence at the moment and that is a real shame.

He wasn't helped by gate 4 and 3 in his opening rides.

Its not a shame at all, nicholls gave english speedway a miss for his pipe dream of the grand prix, how many has he ridden in without winning one 70 is it?hes the modern day andy smith, obsessed with the gp but no chance of winning it,he must have plenty of money to do what hes doing thats all i can say!

Really enjoyed everything about the meeting last night. The camera work, the commentary, the track, the presentation, and of course the contribution of the riders. 110% as Edward would say. The track produced some rocket gates at times and allowed some great passing and cutbacks. Funny how everyone early on was going for the dirt to get a longer drive down the backstraight when Tai did the opposite and went inside and got even better drive. Impressed again by Daniel King who I think has come on leaps and bounds, including his fast riding in our 80th Anniversary meeting at Newcastle last Sunday.

If the televised meetings can keep up to the standard of this one, and the Scunny/Sheff meeting, I can see SKY ditching a few PL footie matches in future. Well, we can but dream.

Top stuff and great to see so many Brits on the pace. :approve:

Is joe dropping his average

That's a bit harsh, Joe's riding with a shoulder injury ;)

Safrican american safrican american

First off - massive well done to the two Coventry boys .... Bomber ! A worthy champion when the chips are down and what a gate in the Final ! Eddie - what can I say, BRILLIANT !! Off to Cardiff we go ... Hi Ho !

Special mentions to Tai Woffindon - racing beyond his years and the unfortunate but somewhat predictable Lee Richardson.

Finally a few words for Scottie .....

Sad to see him so struggling for form and confidence - his interviews only served to substantiate that this is a guy who has lost loads of confidence and is fighting for just scraps at present. No doubt there will be the usual knockers on this forum queueing up to have a go at the GB Rider. However, lest we not forget, Scott Nicholls has been the top GB Rider for most of the last decade and quite rightly too - OK so he is unlikely to be World Chgampion but then again who is .... only Nicki Pedersen, Jason Crump and Greg Hancock can lay claim to that particular feat of the current crop and those three riders are obviously special indeed. We Brits need to get behind Scottie - not knock him - and will him all the best as he strives to return to form -why? cos Scott Nicholls on form and in full flow is still a sight to behold and stands in good stead v all but 3 or 4 riders in the world plus GB needs him !

So come on Scottie - we know you can do it !!

Cheers

His first 3 rides were awful, he lookd like anovice and completly stiff on the bike, and very upright which isnt like him at all, his first race win was not against the strongest opposition and he struggled at first but after lap 2 he started to look more like the rider we know he is, btw everybody who I was watching with all called that he would beat Richardson and in that race

Totally agree. Eddie has served his apprenticeship well, and is developing into an all round excellent rider, who can gate and has plenty of track craft to pass as well. Think he made a howler signing for Coventry and their terrible track, which could slow his developement. But he wanted to get away from Eastbourne and Dugard forced his hand.

How much has he increased his average by...... Plonker.

On to the meeting, it was a decent watch, with some cracking racing towards the end Eddie Kennett take a HUGE bow, he just continues to impress and all bees fans are very happy with the promotion for another astute signing, he should be moving to number 1 soon so its another test for him but riding like that he will have no worries. Well done to Bomber on good win and it was nice to see him so motivated and happy to win, hopefully this will kickstart his season as he looked a little forlorn at times. Bridger dropped a clanger he over raced against Kennett and looked woeful in his final heat when he couldn't pass a premier league rider, contrast that to Woffinden, while I am not totally keen on him he was very sensible picked up points and got himsself another 3rd place.

Danny King comes to mind and he should be given a chance even ahead of Scotty. New blood needed at this level with a view to the future so Danny ought to be in with a shout.

I do hope no-one bothers to bite on that one as it's just not worth commenting on.

I quite agree Janet but unfortunately some have, geez did i say that  .

I can just see Mr Shovel now, sitting on the river-bank on his little fold up stool with his little fold up table & his lap-top in one hand & fishing rod & maggots in the other.

Unforunately agree. That bloke Lyons is out of his depth and has already made a howler in making Nicholls captain. An idiotic error. Will he have the courage to backtrack and take the captaincy from Nicholls, or continue with it to not lose face? I have a feeling it will be the latter.

Oh well hopefully he will fall on his sword after the SWC.

Have to disagree, Scotties experience in the team as captain is invlauable. He has been one of our best riders over the past few years, consistant and performed well in the Elite year in year out. Would have him at Belle Vue any day in preference to Hans And. Think his presence in the team will help the young pretenders who have yet to get anywhere near Scotts career record to date.

You have to respect Scott for turning away considerable income to chase the dream. He got fit over the winter lost some weight and as said before a good rider one year does not become a bad one just like that especially with no injuries to get in the way.

It is pure confidence that's all. Lets hope he gets it back in time for Cardiff.

lol shovlar you could only dream of having kennett bk at poole. i think he wud have rather stayed unhappy at eastbourne rather than sign for poole! mind u he wud get another trophy at the end of this season! the wooden spoon!

I think you are wrong there. I spoke to Eddie a few weeks ago when he was at Poole as a spectator, I asked him jokingly are you our new signing. He replied "I wish", and went on to say that if Poole had not signed Bjarne he would have been at Poole which is what he wanted.

Anyway well done Chris Eddie and Tai. A great meeting on a good track.

Great Meeting. Now for next year how about the BSPA give us Northern fans the chance to attend. Hold the meeting at Sheffield (Pretty Central location,Neutral Track-for most) and lets have it on a Fri/ Sat Night to give people the chance to travel.

Very entertaining meeting (the bits of it I saw) and looking forward to watching the recording in uninterrupted glory in the next day. Plenty of passing (can't believe a couple of people are moaning that these came from the wide outside - what do you lot want for Gawd's sakes?!) and a field of entertainers and racers. Best meeting I've seen at home since the NY Classic, and proof that you don't need the so called big stars to provide a great meeting. Well done to all on show last night for making it so.

Comments on the size of the crowd...yes it was a bit disappointing. But the £20 price tag, a mid-week meeting and a live showing on Sky would never help to bolster numbers. Not to mention that some seem to judge a meeting by the names rather than the potential of the names involved. Gone are the days of the packed terraces on a Sunday afternoon unfortunately.

Bomber is the latest rider to fall victim to the pandemic of "The Johno 'yea definitely's"

I prefer the 'yeah, no' one. Tai does it as well. Funny and annoying in equal measure. :D:angry:

First time i've seen Danny King ride...

Really? :o

Also Lewis Bridger's eyelashes.

I commented on that too. Looked like false lashes to me.

...why NO National Anthem.

Because if they had played God Save The Queen for the Brits they would have had to play the Aussie and Kiwi anthems for Tai and Bunny too. And that would have just dragged the evening out even longer. :P

Most seemed to be rooting for Woffinden, due to being a youngster not affiliated with Coventry,

Bloody hell Steve that's impressive. You can tell by the way people cheer what they are thinking. Why so many Wolves fans on the south coast?

...any Showground specialists in the current crew?

Danny King comes to mind...

Beat me to it. Must be in with a shout if he's in good form over the next few weeks.

---------------------------------------

On the whole that was an enjoyable meeting, but I did get that sinking feeling with a few consecutive gate and go races. Ride of the night goes to Ed for the pass on Bomber. Few pass Bomber but I've never seen Ed so committed to a tight move. He's usually one to be a little more cautious. It was a Bomber type move and that way around wouldn't have surprised me. Ed was good value all night and congrats to him. Surely he made more passes than any other rider on the night too. Top performance. Obviously huge congrats to Bomber. Well deserved in the end for saving his best til last. Why can't he gate like that more often?! Congrats also to Tai for another very good evening in a big meeting. He seemed genuinely happy to maintain the third place he achieved last season. Hopefully he gets a ride at Cardiff to make it all worth while. If not, I'm sure it won't be too long until he samples the GP experience. Although Lee only has himself to blame for screwing it up when it mattered most I do feel for him. I'm not a fan of the winner-takes-all meetings (or th eleague for that matter), and he was clearly the best rider over the 5 rides each. It was clear how much how desperately wanted the GP spot as well as the title, so genuinely a bit gutted for him.

Almost for Danny and Lewis, but cocked it when the pressure was on. Danny made it hard with the exclusion but cocked up another ride too. Lewis finishing last in his final heat was almost unreal. How did he manage to miss out?! Scotty did well to bounce back with a couple of wins after a poor start. Looks to have lost some weight, just as a side issue. Still love watching Scotty when he's on form and would like to see him back over here in future (perhaps not this season because I do think that the GP boys have made their bed and should have all been made to lie in it). Stead did okay considering he'd blown up on parade, and of the lower order riders I thought Howe and Complin were steady and the ones most likely to have caused a surprise, with the rest fighting over scraps.

Im sure someone has mentioned this but why NO National Anthem. Its our British Final for goodness sake - Either at the beginning or the end but not a glimmer of a beat!! Disgraceful - whether that be the fault of Sky with the presentation or Poole's error - im not sure. But terrible form

I think you may be forgetting Sandie, at Poole they've only just learnt what British is & the coffers haven't stretched that far yet, they'd rather pay for a Dane.

Agree though, bad show.
