Cardiff The Greatest Show Earth

Recommended Posts

Normally bump into Summit and Gemini either on the streets or down stairwells and eventually once you introduce yourself Gemini recognises you and send you off on your way with best wishes wondering who the hell was that!!!

Oy you!! :P I'll have you know I am getting quite good at recognising people now......most of the time.

Going with Craiggy boy again is always a pleasure.Always remember going to the first one when he went as a wee lad-from the first time of crossing the bridge and his words WOW to seeing the stadium from the ouside WOW and WOW again and once he trundled up the stairs to his seat-WOW again and then the racing in a huge stadium-WOW again even if he had a stupid GP hat on his head, andf in recent years seeing him all grown up and mixing it with the friends he has made on his beloved sts site.

For him Cardiff is something very special and something he looked at wide eyed as a young kid and to see him still as excited to next weekend as he appraoches his 18th is something special indeed-He looks after me now!!!-It may not be jetting off to Disney Florida etc but it is our yearly look forward to must do event weekend-Hopefully persuading gemma to partake in 2010 so she can get the WOW factor to0-but at the moment she would rather perfect her hair straightener technique!!!

We cant wait-first live speedway since last year and a chance to meet up with old aquaintances since Exeter closed a few years ago!!--bring it on.

Hope everyone enjoys it-especially those going for the first time with their kids.

Cya there.

That was mine and James' first impression too Nevs......from the moment we arrived at Reading services to see all these other coaches and cars full of speedway fans to seeing Cardiff and the stadium in the distance, to walking through the city (and getting lost trying to find the stadium..not once but 3 times!) and hearing all the air horns, to walking into the stadium for the first time and marvelling at the size of it to the sheer noise of the air horns once the racing begins.

Since then of course, we have discovered the delights of meeting up with other fans and this year for the 3rd year, staying over instead of taking the one day coach.

James still comes with me and it has got to the nice stage now where he is old enough (and big enough!) at nearly 16 to take himself to the loo and get drinks...that first year was a pain in the bum having to escort him to the loo! The other two want to come but we are both loath to allow this as it is nice to be able to be an adult and not have the full parent role for the weekend...something I would have to do if they came with me.

This year we are trying a 2 night stay instead of the one nighter and it light of the time change for the start of the meeting, I am glad we decided to do it...it would have been way too stressful trying to get to Cardiff, meet people and then go to the GP....oh and it means extra drinking time!

And yes, I am getting the flutterbies too....

Blimey, I've just worked out that James was 9 when we first went! I actually hadn't realised he was THAT young....what a squirt he was too.

It's about the only time he goes to speedway now, he loves the GP's although now we have Bobby back at Ippo, I may be able to persuade him to come more often.

Sorry, just my ramblings.....

I've been stood outside the City Arms and can hardly hear myself speak with all the airhorns and rowdy Poles around. Everyone is so friendly and you end up chatting with some great people.

Jacques, it'll be great to see you again. Actually, I'm also planning to go to Swindon on Thursday, maybe see you there as well?

All the best

Rob

Meeting everyone in the pubs before the meeting , i love all that .

Paulco, that's actually the best bit of Cardiff, the racing itself is a bit crap.

See you at Somerset, Cardiff & Rye House.

All the best

I think someone touched upon it earlier to sum things up - A SPEEDWAY CARNIVAL !

I grew up a speedway fan watching my local team Cradley until their demise ten or so years ago. I have no affinity with League racing now though do watch all the brilliant Sky coverage to keep my speedway 'fix' up.

However, since the first Cardiff I always put myself out to get down there (missed only one - the Bomber win unfortunately !) - I have taken the family for a long expensive weekend at the Hilton or, more recently, have made the long return drive down from the East side of England.

I always meet up with my old West Midlands mates from Cradley and the time flies by until tapes up time - seeing speedway people together on such a huge scale makes me so proud and keeps me in touch with the sport - a sport that would disappear from my horizon as a 'live' event if it was not for the Cardiff experience.

Here's to Saturday's Carnival - I'll be on my way early.

I absolutely love everything about Cardiff, it's definitely one of the highlights of my year! Not just the meeting, but the whole day, there is such a great atmosphere around Cardiff, I particularly like the sound of the air horns going off in the street. Then there's the added bonus of the Prince of Wales, which has to be one of my favourite ever pubs.

The stadium never fails to amaze me every time and the whole spectacle really is something very special. As speedway fans we can feel very proud of our sport for one night which makes a nice change at the moment!

Roll on Saturday!
