spook 28 Posted July 12, 2009 Sorry to inteupt all this banter but I've had some infomation on the condition of Nicki Pedersen. Don't know if it's already been posted. Had a text late last night from a friend who does some work for the DMU - Nicki is still at the hospital and will see a specialist today to see if he needs a skin graft. He will not ride on Thursday. If I receive any further information, I'll post it. well no one wants to hear that and it sounds like quite an awkward injury The riders representing Australia in the world pairs final were Billy Sanders and Gary Guglielmi. Remember him? got a 12 month ban from the Australian authorities in '84 on a drugs charge. ah Gary yes...... Billy and Gary were both class acts on their day but I think its time HenryW forgave them for not winning on home soil considering the class they were most likely up against The Poles must be under pressure to go into the race off due to the high ticket prices putting the locals off. If theyre not in maybe a few thousand watching the race off?? well I do think the Aussies are trying to win at Pboro considering the squad they selected which automatically gives the Poles an issue with qualifying directly if they want to ...... after Kelvin tried to play down the success of those who choose the race off route it looks like it is going to almost be as tough as the final itself
Mateusz 0 Posted July 12, 2009 The Poles must be under pressure to go into the race off due to the high ticket prices putting the locals off. If theyre not in maybe a few thousand watching the race off?? Well, everyone in the Polish team (the coach and the riders) claims they are gonna fight for the victory in Peterborough and not calculate... I'm not sure how honest they are in what they say in media but now, having two strong teams (Denmark and Sweden) in the race-off I would rather Poland get through directly. Race-off may be a risk as if one of riders gets injured at the beginning and is unable to carry on, the team may be in serious trouble. I think that if Poland win in Peterborough the crowd at the race-off won't be too impressive but should be a sell-out at the final, especially that ticket prices are much more decent than at last GP in Leszno. Some fotos from Vojens Nice ones
Ghostwalker 1,859 Posted July 12, 2009 i think the Polish team will win in P'boro. because they are the best team and with the Russian winning yesterday the race off is going to be super tough. even if the Polish team are the best and having home track advantage, anything can happen in a race off and there is always a risk that they will miss the final. Really enjoyed this meeting. Am I right in that only one rider won from Gate 4 all night - and that was Kenneth Bjerre in Heat 13? It seemed as though if you were on the outside gate, you were doomed!
superguest 194 Posted July 12, 2009 Laguta rode Nicki very hard up the fence, this happened at Poole the other week but luckily the riders were slowing down as it was the final bend. Hope Nicki is OK, not my favourite rider, but he was unlucky there...
iris123 20,997 Posted July 12, 2009 Nice ones Thanks Mateusz Really enjoyed this meeting. Am I right in that only one rider won from Gate 4 all night - and that was Kenneth Bjerre in Heat 13? It seemed as though if you were on the outside gate, you were doomed! Vojens and Olsen take a lot of stick, but it can be a very good track. But gate 4 has been a problem.I was talking to Kevin Wölbert and he had a good league meeting earlier in the season until he was off gate 4 twice in a row.......and Nicolai had a slight worry that his first heat was gate 4.He knew the importance of making a decent first race..... Posh Red 14 Posted July 12, 2009 Isn't there a "gentlemans" agreement that the rider in front will leave a bit of room if there is a quicker rider behind. Perhaps Nicki wrongly assumed he would leave a bit and didn't. I don't believe this gentleman’s agreement applied when Nicki rode Greg Hancock into the fence in a previous GP (some years back admittedly). FWIW, I think Hans assessment was about right, Nicki was racing for a gap that wasn’t there, and got his wheel caught on Laguta’s footrest, after that both of them were passengers in the accident. Not Nicki’s biggest fan, but he didn’t do anything wrong in this instance, not that I think Greg did either it was just one of those things that happen in racing. Most importantly I hope his injuries are not too severe and he is back on his bike soon.
