Ice Racing 2009/10

Recommended Posts

The qualis were 5+1 from Saalfelden and Sanok and 6 from St Johan. As "wildcards" were needed it was decided prior (look at Conkers post as a reply to me a page or two earlier regarding who qualifies) to the season that the wc's would be taken from qualis 3, 1 and 2 in this order. This is why Posa is left out.

Regarding Knapp, I'd say he has qualified to the GP, reserve is enough as the system gives the opportunity to ride during the 2nd day. Maybe this is what them FIM thinks too?

But there's 7 qualifiers from one round and 5 from another. How does that work out?

All the best

Rob

Basically Rob, the PMZ and the KNMV get a slot for their riders as they organise rounds/finals. There is a rather long winded explaination a few posts back which f-s-p and I referred to as being as clear as mud. Sven Holstein gets the nod ahead of Harald Simon, who drops to reserve, as he is the KNMV rep (Assen organise a Final) whilst Posa loses his slot as reserve to Knapp as the PMZ get a slot for orgainsing a qualifier. I'm assuming Simon is reserve because of the Austrian connection, and as SVEMO no longer have a qualifier after they made a complete hash of their organisation/cancellation of a round in 2008, they miss out. Rather unfair on Posa but that's politics.

I do know that the Assen club have been pestering the FIM to boost the profile of Ice Racing for some years as many of the meetings do lose money, and by allowing an organising federation a "wild card" they believe it will expand the sport, encouraging new nations to bid for rounds/finals.

If the Ipswich Snoasis project lets Ice Racing in to the proposed Speed skating track, I do know that the Assen club want to be involved (it is they who are promoting the Innsbrück Final to boost the Austrian presence, and they have a hand in the Saalfelden qualifier) and maybe we'll have Mark, Rob or Kev in the Finals!

Conkers - well the big favourite at Assen is Posa, who won't be there now because of the ridiculous regs, so it's backfired somewhat.

Assen is finals 8 and 9. Trust me, if he's in one piece, he'll be there.

If he doesn't get a slot in the Finals, I suspect that they will have him in the Friday meeting.

Are you travelling with Eurorider BTW? If so I'll see you there

Just read that Russian customs have forced Kai Lehtinen to withdraw himself from the EC final. They demanded some paperwork from him on the border regarding the bikes that the press release says dont even exist.
