Nl Play Off Final

Recommended Posts

Looking forward very much to this - two pretty evenly matched teams on two of the best racing circuits in the country.

Here's hoping that the meetings get the weather and the crowds they deserve - last time I looked, Scunny seemed OK at least.

I'd say the way the NL play offs turned out - with 4 teams all in with a chance of winning - has been more of a success than the PL (which has fizzled out in a mass of meaningless matches) or the EL (which only one team was really going to win).

While the championship and KO Cup wins of Glasgow and Newport in the PL have been rightly hailed as victories for the smaller, less successful sides its also brilliant to see Stoke and Mildenhall in particular in with a shout. There are some extremely dedicated and loyal fans at both clubs who have stuck by their teams week after week over many lean years (not least my old mate Norwichkev) and they deserve at least the chance of some silverware.

It does look a good pair of fixtures this,my feeling is alot depends on Gary Irving`s fitness, wether he rides or not has he can rack up big points at the EWR

Either way im looking for ward to it

Should be two excellent meetings, looking forward to my first trip to Scunthorpe this season.

Hopefully there will be no dramas, injuries or weather problems, and a really good season in the NL will end on a high note :approve:

Plenty of Mildenhall supporters are heading up to Scunthorpe on friday so there should be a cracking atmosphere! See you there Mr HT!

Irving back for title showdown

Gary Irving has given the Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints a massive boost ahead of their National League title showdown with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers this weekend. Twenty-three days after breaking his collarbone in the first leg of the semi-final at Belle Vue he will return to the side for the first leg of the final on Friday at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

When asked about Irving’s impact promoter Rob Godfrey said “His return is such great news. He is a top rider in the National League and it means we don’t have to use rider replacement. Not only can he make a big contribution but his return eases the pressure on everyone else. If our seven just go out and do their thing they can build up a good lead on Friday. We know we can go to their place on Sunday and get a result but we can build the pressure up on them by doing well on Friday”.

“I’m so very proud of what the Saints have achieved over the last two years. They are a group of young men who have gelled so well together under the guidance of (Team Managers) Stuart and Rebecca Parnaby and really worked hard to get to the final. They have done an outstanding job to reach the final and I believe they will complete the job this weekend. We beat Mildenhall by eight on aggregate in the league and whilst they will point to Cameron Heeps being missing our guests for Gary scored just three points in each meeting and we were also missing Ashley (Birks) and Richie (Worrall) from the home leg”.

“A league title is on the line and the opportunity to win one doesn’t come around very often. If anyone has seen the size of the crowds at the Elite League Playoff finals then they know that speedway doesn’t get much better than a league title decider I’m sure we will have a big turnout on Friday to help cheer the boys on”.

Friday’s meeting starts at 7.30pm whilst the return leg at Mildenhall is on Sunday, 23rd October, with a 4.30pm start time.

Many from Sheffield making there way over for this Squall???

From Sheffield??? Why? I see no mention of Sheffield in this final!

Agree it's great to have the National League and that the play-off's add extra excitement and keep the season meaningful for many teams. Although, as with the Elite (and Premier in the past), there should as there is in a lot of other sports be a trophy awarded for the team topping the leauge as well. However, this farce of Scunthorpe/Sheffied not being referred to as such at all times is insane. I won't re-tread the clear cut reasons why it has been an unforgivable farce as it was covered in a topic recently. But the listing of the final as being just Scunthorpe is comical.

Why, Manchesterpaul? Care to elaborate why you feel that way?

Has anyone reminded Mr. Henry to bring his black and white tablecloth this time? Should be a cracker on Friday with hopefully a nice, big home win.
