STR CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND – KING'S LYNN (11th August 2013)

Once again there was a sizeable crowd for this entertaining STR meeting. Some people I spoke to had travelled up from as far as Folkestone in Kent, and enjoyed both the racing and the blazing heat bottled and saved for the Norfolk Arena.

Sadly however, the meeting has to be brought to a sudden and premature end following an alarming crash in the 'Intermediate A' Final, involving Luke Barnes

and Rod Woodhouse. The outcome was that two county ambulances were summoned in addition to the previously called paramedic, with finally the Air Ambulance required.

Luke Barnes was taken off to the local hospital with a suspected broken collar-bone, whilst the injuries to Woodhouse are not known at this moment in time.

He was concious and talking to all the medical staff, so that's a positive note.

So, let's hope for a speedy recovery to both riders.

Just to follow up my report, I've just received news that the air ambulance wasn't needed in the end. Rod was stabilised and taken to hospital with a badly broken right arm,, broken left wrist and ribs.....and may have a bruised lung. So I can only repeat what I said earlier, and that is that I hope Rod makes a full and speedy recovery.

Mike,

Thanks for the great report again of the STR meeting. Saw the picture of the Air Ambulance and wasn't aware of who it had been sent for and really glad that it wasn't needed in the end.

Best wishes to both riders for a speedy recovery, but particularly our old friend Rod.

Martin
