People will always disagree about the qualities of commentators but you must be doing something right to be as memorable as Tony Millard.

Multi sport knowledgeable and a uniquely honed style set him above the norm in his field.

RIP.

I only met Tony once. That was at Cradley when he squeezed into a corner of the Referee's Box to do a radio commentary for the BBC (yes the BBC - those were the days) on a Test match.

A real gent and good company if only for one afternoon.

His commentaries always added colour and some amusement to the coverage.

A sad loss to the Sport.

Must go now "work to do!".

RIP Tony

Just thought his detractors, would be delighted to know that his funeral was attended by well over 300 people. Chapel was full, outside was full, many people heard teh service from teh Car Park. Lavish eulogys from experienced senior people from BBC..Sky..Newspapers...Sussex County Cricket, Brighton FC..etc..etc. Extremely moving, the old boy was plainly held in High esteem by people of judgement and knowledge. as they said..quiet he was not, enthusiastic he for sure was, with a deep love for his Cricket,Football and speedway. Only hope when I turn up my Toes, people will think as highly of me. Top Man Millard, you certainly were a One Off.
