Sky Sports New Deal

Recommended Posts

Any speedway coverage is positive. However, I do hope the BSPA leave themselves some wiggle room in any agreed deal so they can look for more lucrative and better deals with other broadcasters.

It would be nice to see someone.

That's just it. You need to get out more. Try going to a real speedway match then you won't want to see the whole thing ruined by television. Next thing to appease your craving for televised speedway, you'll have Sam Ermolenko doing a voice-over at the start of the broadcast, saying "this match was filmed before a studio audience". The audience would have to be in a studio because all the old fans will be staying at home under your vision of wall to wall speedway television. what'll be the point of going out when you get it all at home.

If it was brilliant, it would undoubtedly have been trumpeted by now.

I thought it had been........?! Ooops. :D

For this to happen the company would have to be mega rich. To broadcast over the TV is not cheap. The best way is to start out showing speedway over the internet but not live as you don’t need to have a broadcast licence, so I understand. By doing it this way you can see how many people follow the show. Once you have the figures of how many people are watching it you then can go out and get sponsors to show the speedway on TV. To do something like this takes months of plans and time but if the person had a team to put it all together then it can be done.

You could have racing, interviews of riders, fans, team owners etc. etc.

I had looked into something like this and found it would cost around £5000 for the first year. This would be buying camera, fuel to the tracks, website (but for myself to do not a company). Then you would have to get a solicitor to make sure that you can’t be sued by a company. This did not come into the £5000 this would be extra to have this on board.

...but only in the promoters allow you to do it. Promotion means earning money (!) and they could charge for the rights to do this.

I do go to see the Leicester Lions. And take my grandson with me. But it is nice to see the other teams race as well. See nothing wrong with TV coverage of our sport. It doe's not make me stay at home and if it was on the TV the same night as a race night at the Lions the Lions would win out every time.

That is the whole point though Philip.

NO-ONE knows.

Nobody seems to care that Speedway Supporters/Customers/us who pay the money like to know what is happening. It's not as if it is a disaster that the Government wants to keep hidden from the General Public.

It's only Television coverage of a minor Sport.

WHY are they making such a 'big deal'** out of it?

** Bet it isn't.

Good point TWK.

After all sponsors hoping for TV exposure and supporters wanting to know whether to include SKY in thier 2014 budget are as nothing compared to the BSPA and thier exciting lives.

How stupid it seems that all this has been caused because some big mouthed idiot sought to make himself sound more important than he really is to a local paper with a circulation less than Philips SS.

And now it seems SKY have taken the hump and will not release a statement saying whether or not the sport will be on TV in 10 weeks or whatever it is.

They would rather hang on until the weekend before and cause huge amount of disruption to riders wanting to secure sponsors and advertise them on thier equipment and viewers who have no idea whether they want to continue with thier expensive SKY package or indeed purchase a new one.

What a bunch of pathetic f###### idiots the lot of them.

It would be nice to see someone. Get the iniiiative, get together thier own production team and sponsers.

Open thier own Speedway TV Channel and show all forms of the sport. Elite League. Premier League. National League, Junior League. British Championships, GP and World Championships plus leagues from other countries and American Speeday. Long Track, Grass Trackand Ice Speedway. The list is endless.

There is enough there to fill a weeks worth of viewing.

What a dream. As long as it came as free to view and you didn't have to fork out another £10 or so a month to watch it.

iF it was gone about in the right way, it would pay its own way with sponsership deals.

Now that would be worth watching.

And a round up programme on a Sunday, giving you all the weeks results and some rider features. Dream on it would make good viewing for all Speedway fans and maybe even bring in a few more to the sport..

But it is just a dream and will never happen.

Are you looking EuroSport. You have got some of the best now, so go for the rest.

Not sure what planet you are on, but it sure isn't this one.

Yeah Motors TV coverage was not on the same par as Eurosports marvellous camerawork...

It wasn't Eurosports camera work, they took the feed from the Host Broadcaster..all Eurosport did was transmit it with their own Commentators/Pundits.
