Swindon 2016 - A New Era Starts...we Thought..

Recommended Posts

Clark Osbourne selling personalised bricks for his new stadium yet, Belle Vue style?

Bricks? There won't be anything so old fashioned as a brick to be seen.

Remember, its "state of the art" latest thinking in building techniques. Its modular in design and assembled elsewhere and then transported to site and nailed together.

As we used to call them, portakabins. With an extra plug for the TV camera guy.

£6000,000? Yea, sure.

Thinking of coming down for this one on Good Friday. Would you think Skidder that the track staff will be able to-as its a daytime meeting-polish the blue groove fast enough to enable me to get to Somerset in time for their evening meeting !!

Quite a few will want to travel to Somerset along with at least 3 or 4 riders who are due to ride there.

I've seen these modular buildings going up - a development at Cumbra was being done and looked excellent, and eventually most building work will be done in this way. They can look a lot better than portakabins !

But they aren't designed for a 20 year life never mind 70. Look at how bad Reading became quite quickly for proof of that.

Its cheap and cheerful. Not built for a long life. Like so many buildings these day. Very quickly they become scruffy and expensive to upkeep.

Don't recall seeing a blue groove last season with the amount of extra good shale that was added to the track - BUT it is a daytime meeting and it will depend on what the weather forecast is for the day as to how the track is prepared.

In any case Swindon have enough Poole assets former Poole riders familiar with the track to make it a very decent meeting.:D

And with a bit of luck they will be back to take the points away for the Rooobins!

Plans look ok and it is good to actually see some progress ( hopefully ), but there are a few issues at this time.

1. Spectators limited to 3500 from the present 4950, which is ok for normal meetings but could limit any major events. Not a major issue.

2. Parking on site 572 spaces, but having more parking off site and free transport to the stadium, off site vehicle capacity and costs unclear. One site proposed is the Groundwell park and ride, not sure of vehicle capacity at this site or the security there in the evenings. These two sites probably limited to under 1000 vehicles in total.

3. The council want to reduce car usage and increase the number of people in each vehicle, but the provision of public transport from Swindon is not clear in times and numbers. Will have to see what is arranged.

As long as this happens it will be fantastic.....everything crossed!!

** I'm sure the last lot of plans was 2500, could be wrong though(?)
