From the Belle Vue website,

 

"Following the recent remedial works to Turn 3 & Turn 4 by the building contractors, a further inspection of the National Speedway Stadium circuit has been carried out this evening.

This considered together with the poor weather forecast for tomorrow, Thursday March 24th, it has been decided to postpone the Good Friday meeting Belle Vue vs Wolverhampton scheduled for March 25th.

Re-staging date to be confirmed."

Shame that Wolves, Edinburgh & Cradley all kept fans in the know and yet Belle Vue couldn't. Fans could do with a bit of openness from the club.

I think you're failing to realise it's not Belle Vue's fault.

 

First they have no say or knowledge of track conditions until race day & getting 5-6000 fans in a stadium for the meeting to get cancelled. Wasn't Belle Vue's fault ya know.

Now it seems other clubs are calling meetings off before they themselves know. Not Belle Vue's fault ya know.

APPARENTLY track curator Colin Meredith is happy with the track now and that a full practice will be held tomorrow and he is confident it will be okay for Friday.

Belle Vue may have a state of the art stadium but their PR is something out of the stone age.

Hahaha.....what a complete and utter FARCE!!! yet there will still be some fools in here sticking up for the BV promoters!! Why was a meeting for next week already cancelled if they "thought" they could race this Friday?!...and yet people still actually believed it would be on

I dont want to be seen as kicking BV when they are down but I recall reading posts on Sat night and Sunday from their fans asking why people supposedly in the know didn't publicly say there were problems with the track. Some of those same people have since complained that Edinburgh, Cradley and Wolves announced Friday was off before Belle Vue is. Anyone else see double standards here?

 

Far better to call off any meetings until the track has been properly tested so that only good news comes out of Manchester.

Try reading this, I've highlighted the appropriate parts just in case you have a problem finding them. By the way, it's part of the official statement from Belle Vue issued on March 21st. Certainly read to me that Colin Meredith (and indeed anyone else from BV) are not allowed to do anything other than advise.

 

Gordon stressed that all aspects of the stadium construction , including the laying of the track, were carried out under the stadium build contract. Belle Vue’s only responsibility was the erection of the safety fence, a specialist operation, which it was agreed would be done by track curator Colin Meredith.

Gordon said: “There was a problem with the sub base of the track around the third and fourth bends which was recently completed. there were contractors’ workmen and machines out there first thing on Monday working to correct the problems."

 

Track work commenced early this morning

“We had internal meetings on Sunday and meetings with the Council and the building contractors on Monday. The whole investigation process into what happened is ongoing. We will not comment until everything has been clarified.

 

“The fact of the matter is that we didn’t receive what we were supposed to receive. I cannot stress too much that we did not build this track, it was the responsibility of third parties and it was not fit for purpose.

 

“We tried our best to get this meeting on but we were let down by circumstances beyond our control. We are now in serious dialogue with all concerned."

 

“The contractors, who are not under our instructions, were working on the track first thing on Monday morning. The Belle Vue track curator is out there giving them advice and we hope his experience will help them get it put right.”
