PHILIPRISING 7,298 Posted May 24, 2016 Look at the Swedish Speedway, they have live matches with big crowds, Poland live matches with huge crowds... what is British Speedway doing wrong? TOP name riders, better tracks, no guests, continuity of teams, no assets, contracted riders, less complicated rules, especially regarding averages... just for starters

Big Al 708 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Two years ago, Birmingham dropped out, but there were 10 teams back then and the league withstood it. If a team has to drop out this year, would the league be a viable proposition with only 7 left? Would Sky invoke their "get out clause?". Well nothing so far that tries to answer the question, a presumably hypothetical scenario of an EL club dropping out soon? RobMcCaffery 2,752 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) yes, but what encourages a Swede or a Pole to turn up to a TV match that puts a British punter off? Probably cost. I doubt whether many have any idea who's riding. Edited May 24, 2016 by rmc
Starman2006 2,354 Posted May 24, 2016 TOP name riders, better tracks, no guests, continuity of teams, no assets, contracted riders, less complicated rules, especially regarding averages... just for starters Perhaps you should attend the BSPA meeting in November.
RobMcCaffery 2,752 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) i wouldnt mind, throw in a ko cup, a british final over a few rounds, would fill up the calendar nicely. not sure the riders would be keen though. God knows how we coped with 26-30 meeting seasons..... Oh yes, enjoyed ourselves hugely. Perhaps it's best to finally let the EL drift off into senility, staging a bare handful of meetings and let the rest of us enjoy the other leagues? Leicester Lion 274 Posted May 24, 2016 If someone has a link because it's not one that I have read. Without an official link confirming then it remains and stays as gossip or assumption. Not everything has to have a link. There is life outside the internet.

New Science 1,059 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) No sure where the majority of EL clubs are going to find them from...Any sport needs 3 things to be successful 1. A good TV deal, that increases at every renewal 2 Extensive sponsorship 3 Healthy attendances of mostly full paying adults Naught out of three for speedway at present Edited May 24, 2016 by New Science
ColinMills 1,728 Posted May 24, 2016 is there any reason there cant be a highlights show? apologises if someone already explained this......or filming a match and saving it canned until there a rain off?
stevebrum 6,821 Posted May 24, 2016 Doesn't someone on here work for sky sports? Flagrag i think Not everything has to have a link. There is life outside the internet. Of course there has to be a link if you are dealing with a professional sport and news releases. Otherwise the life outside the sport you allude to involves gossip and hearsay which without an official announcement is just that. So in other words what the person standing next to you on the terraces says suddenly becomes fact in both you're eyes then? Surely if Sky Sports or the BSPA had made such an effort to get Tai racing in the EL then they would have made a bigger deal of it??? So speculation until proven. topsoil 2,498 Posted May 24, 2016 Just a few thoughts after reading the threads above 1) Life in Sweden and Poland is not as rosy as it seems, a lot of clubs lose heavily each season and have to be bailed out by local authorities. Chances of that ever happening in Britain? 2) I've often thought that Sky meetings should be free admission, try and get meetings sponsored to meet the costs, get as many people in the stadiums as possible, looks good for the cameras, sponsor gets maximum exposure. 3) The Elite League (and other leagues would be nice) needs a sponsor. 4) In it's current state I can't imagine any club wishing to leave the Premier League to move up to the Elite league, unless you have an owner willing to lose a lot of money, or the club have serious sponsorship backing. In any other sport, the aim is to get to the highest league possible because a) the TV revenue is greater attendances will be increased or sponsorship or corporate income will increase or c) there is some other sort of financial reward. That doesn't seem to be the case in speedway. There is no incentive to want to compete in the highest league.
