Trees 2,814 Posted September 25, 2017 Why won't Doyle and Holder be back if we're racing just 2 nights a week?

spanner47 336 Posted September 25, 2017 The only thing that most agree on is, different nights for the two divisions. Doubling up has forced that upon us and it isn't going away. It's looking like Monday and Thursday, so Ipswich and Sheffield might go up, but who would come down as they don't like the thought of riding on these nights? No TV money and a change of night would surely hurt Leicester, also talk of Lakeside coming back, but don't think they'd fancy one of those nights.
contronatura 2 Posted September 25, 2017 After the double up chaos in the last few weeks I can´t see two semi-professional leagues (Premiership and Championship) for next year...  for me it is one league on professional level (call it what you will) and one league on national developement level...  how many clubs are participating in the different leagues can only be decided by the clubs promoters (I can see 12-14 in the top league)... spanner47 336 Posted September 25, 2017 If they wouldn't fancy one of those nights how come they've spoken to the site owners about changing to one? That's good news, but certainly completely different to what they were saying when they dropped down. I appreciate Friday traffic is usually worse than the rest of the week, but a lot of people just don't want to hit the M25 any day of the week and hope for the best. Humphrey Appleby 13,957 Posted September 25, 2017 No they shouldn't. Why the hell should our League be wrecked just to satisfy the Premiership? Our league? Youve said you havent been to speedway in years. Â Do you really think if the top league collapses through lack of teams, the lower league wont be afflicted by the same problems when theres no-one else to employ the better riders? Â Both leagues have a symbiotic relationship, and their fates are inter-twined. The ridiculous self-interest that seems to pervade the second division is one of the biggest contributory reasons to the problems with the sport today.

i should say self preservation rather than self interest.  the top league is a poorly run, team shedding farrago and has a track record in bullying the 2nd div - vis the last amalgamation which they sobotaged and further back the bullying of provincial league teams which led to the obvious solution to the problem which they had to be forced in to- a combined division. Which is what should happen now. Edited September 25, 2017 by ch958

Fromafar 10,363 Posted September 26, 2017 Glasgow have the finances to make it work and a growing fan base because they are promoted properly. White knight, you are quite correct in what you say, when I say the four teams are going up maybe I meant they are joining forces with the other 8 Looks like doyle, holder etc won't be back so the leagues are even closer than ever before so either way you look at it, call it what you like both leagues are practically the same, all you'd lose are those few guys under say 4/5 who then become heat leaders in the national league Glasgow have already stated that the Speedway has to pay for itself ,they modernised the Stadium but will not throw money at the sport.Crowds have to sustain the sport.
