Brummie Boy 61 Posted February 16, 2022 If LR knows the riders he wants, why not give the fans a name or two? It's not like another promoter is going to jump in and snap them up.

Don't take this the wrong way but it's best to pull out of the league now rather than financially collapsing mid-season. Obvious LR cant put a team together at this point and any 1-7 will now be well below par and it's no secret how Birmingham have struggled with attendances in the past and that's with half decent teams containing a couple of good riders. I'm sorry but people will not pay the money to see a below average team get smashed by 20-30 points every week considering the price of living these days with Gas and Electric prices set to sky rocket. Quite right about the fuel prices etc.... But so far as the team goes, I think LR knows this and will put a competitive team together....I'm keeping the faith! We can't criticize, until there's something there to judge? Edited February 16, 2022 by GiveusaB
Brummies_Ste 136 Posted February 16, 2022 Its the same old story with a new statement on the official site posted today. Some quotes BIRMINGHAM boss Laurence Rogers remains in talks with ‘several’ riders as he looks to complete his team for the new era of racing at Perry Barr. Rogers, who says he knows the riders he wants, is refusing to panic as he made contact with more riders over the weekend to open up his options. He said: “We’re working hard to sort things out, I can understand everyone wanting news but we have to stay patient until it gets done. “It’s frustrating in many ways but I’m hopeful everything will fall into place soon.”

It just depends how many of them Birmingham have and actually if people are worried about Birmingham closing and they can afford it, in my opinion they will attend. Hard to get crowds in the Midlands though, so much going on!! It's certainly not a Midlands attraction....we've had this debate before....we can't compete with football (even though all our teams are sh#te...) and the new cricket format... 20/20 is far more exciting than an average speedway meeting these days....even darts is more watchable than speedway (IMO) Whilst some sports have progressed, speedway has reversed so far as entertainment value goes! Even Belle Vue are struggling and they have one of the best set-ups in the world of speedway! WE desperately need ex Cov/Cradley fans to attend and the only way they're going to do that is if there are decent riders and decent racing on show? (may be...) When B'ham closed, I went to Cov/wolves for a speedway fix! Edited February 16, 2022 by GiveusaB

More riders than the ones mentioned a couple of weeks ago? or more riders as opposed to the 4 already signed ? If he's had to change his options/search, then I'm a bit concerned for our future. I can understand him not saying who....so we just have to accept he's trying and that's that! Laurence knows more than anybody that people won't attend if he serves up 'sh#te' ! The closing part of the statement worries me? Josh Auty vows to give his all ??? hope that's not a hint at him being our No.1 ??? I'd class myself as a die-hard....not a 'die-at all costs' ! topaz325 1,859 Posted February 16, 2022 Looked at a few championship club websites and some clubs still have not named the complete sides to compete this season, strange with only a month or so to the start of the season.

Jimsboy 58 Posted February 16, 2022 I'm afraid IR has no riders to call up on to sign. Most worked out weeks ago there were no riders of obvious choice jumping out to sign. Needs to come clean. Hopefully, BSPA are working closely with him as I'm sure they want an easy run league in 2022.

There are riders (Ellis/Gappmaier...to name but two) its just seems that we can't afford them?

Can’t believe Gappmaier is an expensive signing if he is riding in UK this season.Certainly would not put him in 1st or 2nd heatleader class.

Naming a rider you're talking to, then having to announce he's not going to be available after all (even if no fault of the club) is quite the wrong way to go. Only announce a name when he is signed, sealed and delivered.
HGould 2,213 Posted February 16, 2022 Surprised nobody mentioned Zak Wajneckht. Did OK in 2019 and midweek would suit him fine. Just have to work on Leicester. Berwick and Newcastle Away to avoid his Grass and Long Track commitments.
