Birmingham Brummies 2022

Recommended Posts

So with the Commonwealth Games being held in Birmingham, just up the road, from Thursday the 28th of July to Monday the 8th of August in the height of the British summer, I assume the Brummies promotion is in full swing in trying to attract along some of the thousands of visiting people in the city and some of the athletes just a stones throw away from the stadium... by holding some kind of spin off Commonwealth Riders Championship, a money spinning meeting to boost the coffers?

Oh, hang on...

AUGUST

Wed 03 - NO MEETING - HOME

The night of the men's and womens 100 metre semi finals and finals.

Also 2x T20 Cricket matches at Edgbaston

Anyone trying to run Speedway that night would deserve certifying.

Right decision by Brummies.

Are Birmingham limited to running on Wednesdays?

I wonder if ALL other entertainment establishments will be shutting up shop on that night?

Yes. Also there will be a lot of road closures in the area whenever the other stadium is in use which would make access to and from the speedway slightly more difficult than usual.

A Festival of Sports all laid on across the City with integrated ticketing and supporter zones and you seriously expect anyone to think about speedway?

I'd hazard an educated guess that 90% of anyone who has been to Brummies in past 5 years will either attend at least one Event at Commonwealth Games or even be involved in helping it run.

Traffic will be a mare before and after.

You head must be well past your backside and in your colon let alone deep in the long jump sandpit if you can't see the blatantly obvious.

A 2 week orgy of sport that speedway has no part in or place in, would have no medics nor Stewards and probably attract 100 if they were lucky.

Clever clubs avoid clashes with big soccer matches. Are you seriously suggesting going up against 100 mrtres finals within earshot of the starting pistol or t20 possibly including England or one of the subcontinent nations.

I'd lay 50 quid Laurence Rogers will be attending one of them and having a well deserved night off.

It's good to know that you're so confident in your product at Birmingham that you'll look for almost any clash to avoid running against it

As a sporting club bang in the middle of it all Brummies should be part of it all, not hiding away... probably the reason you're struggling to make the end of the season.

Even if you're afraid to run on the 3rd, why not the week before, the day before the opening ceremony?

Go and crawl back under your rock, if you’re commenting about Birmingham in such a way it’s not welcome and quite frankly it’s embarrassing. If any sports tried running next door to a once in a lifetime event for the city they would be mad, even Manchester United didn’t play few years ago when the games were at ethid, are you questioning them?? Do one idiot

When speedway has fans like you in no time at all your going to be on a netball forum complaining about that because the likes of you will have finally finished speedway off and you won’t have this forum to spout your stuff, if you don’t like the way the club is run fair enough but it’s not your concern is it

ROAD SYSTEM IN AREA ALL CLOSED DOWN. As explained Weds Aug 3rd is one of the main athletics events and running against it even if the roads weren't closed would be financial suicide.

If you look at the fixtures Birmingham ARE running on Wednesday July 27th v Poole ._and Wednesday is ONLY race day at Perry Barr allowed !! And we are not struggling to make the end of the season .

I've probably paid to be at more speedway meetings than you've had hot dinners. If you're happy for Birmingham speedway to be the best kept secret in town that's fair enough. It is my concern because your failure is a reflection on the sport I love

Birmingham vs Poole is hardly going to draw in the international crowd that you have literally on your doorstep. Running a Commonwealth Games tie in meeting is a no brainer you would have thought...

As for whether you make the end of the season, as that's probably going to be the 10th of August, you may just do that one.

we have the British u21 final on 31 August and plans are afoot for more meetings .

So what would your suggestion be for this Commonwealth Games tie you think should be run ??

Checked my bank statement yesterday and there was a debit of £18 referenced ‘Birmingham’ on 7th July and wondered what this was. Turns out it was for the Lions match at Perry Barr (card payment) on……1st June, over 5 weeks ago! Is this a reflection on banking transaction times or slacking on the Brum promotion? If it’s the latter, no wonder they struggling to stay out of the brown stuff.

Last Birmingham team match is scheduled for August the 10th though.

As for the Commonwealth Games meeting, simple a Commonwealth Riders Championship featuring a line up of British based Commonwealth riders, heavily promoted in the athletes village the night before the opening ceremony, hardly rocket science
