Bryan Seery

Recommended Posts

I met a chap last Friday and we got talking about Speedway as you do.

He mentioned his only real knowledge of Speedway was through Bryan Seery,

who was his Maths teacher at the time, back in the 70's.He hasn't seen

or heard of Bryan since those days and did not pursue his mentor's

interest of Speedway.

Does anyone have any news of Bryan since the demise of Seery's statistics?

Probably find him on a platform at Crewe jotting down the numbers of the passing trains :o All that"first team to win an Inter League 4TT round without actually providing a race winner in heat 3 "

It's not conclusive evidence, but I hope Bryan is still very much alive and kicking.

A Bryan Seery, from Kent, has taken out a subscription to our Backtrack Magazine - can't imagine there are too many Bryan Seerys about with an interest in speedway in the 70s/80s....?

I'd like to think so too Tony, but can assure you the statistician Bryan Seery was reported to have died in the speedway press some years back.

About 3 years ago a request from me for an obscure 70's Speedway scorecard was printed in the Speedway researcher magazine. A bloke called Bryan Seery sent me a photocopy of an immaculately filled in scorechart from that meeting. His address was a village near Sevenoaks. I assumed it was the famous Speedway statto but I can't be sure.

I remember Brian Seery's stats articles of the time. His was the last word on such things.

Stranger things have happened. Some years ago one of our rugby club players went to live in Thailand, and it was later reported that he had died. There was a picture and a report in the local press, and a memorial match and cup was arranged. We were all sat in the changing room waiting to go out when his brother came in told us to cancel the match - he had just found out that it was an insurance scam. We played the match anyway!

Regards
