Speedway is literally the only thing in the world that Britain is behind Poland in. That should be evidence enough that we’re not running speedway right here. If we were then we’d be calling the shots.

Tough question, but both their post-match/meeting interviews are painful. Martin said the issue was not his tactics, but that the players were anxious. Brown said Palm Toft tried hard on Tuesday night. Both comments indicative of serious brain injuries and/or delusion. -

What a week I've had. At Leicester on Monday. The Lions get my support while I wait for Brandon to reopen. And watching them claw their way back to win by 90-89 was sensational. The tension waiting for heat 15 to start was palpable. The feeling waiting for the rerun to start after the Tigers had made the start first time round was almost unbearable. And for Max to fly off gate 4 to seal the deal was truly memorable (apologies to all my Yorkshire pals). Then to sit down and watch Glasgow Edinburgh on BSN last night was another treat. A hard fought meeting which either side could have won. But to achieve a 10 point swing in 3 heats is hard to argue with. So any lingering doubts that the play offs are a good idea have been banished, from my mind at least. P.S. The delight continues. I saw Dougy win his testimonial tonight and I'm off to Torun on Tuesday to see GB win the SON (I can dream). -
In one sense that's the ethos of sport. Doing everything you can to win. But you're right it has to be something worth winning. Modern audiences and importantly sponsors are no long impressed by a title alone. Many sports now think about the product. They realise the sport itself is in competition with other sports and other leisure activities so it has to be entertaining. It's all sports entertainment now not just wrestling. I don't think UK speedway has caught on. Win at home and everything will be alright is some of the most short sighted strategic choice of all time. Set the track to benefit the home team doesn't matter if it's entertaining the masses just need to see the home team win. Then rules which favour teams who can afford the best riders then complaining about how much the best riders cost. Of course they do you've made them invaluable. Of course home spectators want to win but if there's no jeopardy where's the joy.
