Brummie Kev 519 Posted May 22, 2016 I'm disappointed tonight to hear the BSPA have blocked Richard Hall`s move to Birmingham as a temporary replacement for the injured Tom Perry. They apparently are using a NL average obtained TWELVE years ago rather than his converted PL average. For me its absolutely ridiculous, firstly surely an average a rider obtained 12 years back isnt a true reflection of the rider he is now, the third tier wasn't even called the National League for godsake. The third tier like every other league isnt going to be the same league in the space of 12 years. In the Brummies press release the rule 19.8.2 which states: A rider's match average will be based upon their latest (attained during the seasons 2011-2015 ONLY) National League or Premier League match average (multiplied by two) So why are the using an average from 2004!!!, when Richard has a recent Premier League average, it flys in the face of that rule. Also how come James Purchase, Shelby Rutherford and Luke Clifton have been allowed into the National League on reassessed averages despite having ridden in the NL/CL before, 2009 in Rutherford case ? Absolute Shambles, one rule for certain clubs and another for others.

screm 8,099 Posted May 23, 2016 I applaud the BSPA for this decision, no way should a rider with the experience of Richard Hall be dropping into the NL, the averages may fit but the likes of Hall, and others, shouldn't be riding in our NL.
Pinny 2,581 Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) Why not? Hes well past it now, no PL team wants him and he wants to carry on riding, why shouldnt he be allowed to ride in the NL? If atkin and armstrong can then why cant hall? Edited May 23, 2016 by Pinny
Sidney the robin 4,735 Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) Pathetic these rules are killing speedway Hall might get a few scores and then get another chance at PL level. He proved what he is capable of by reaching a BF speedway needs to rip the rule book up and just go back to the basics. Is there any difference between Hall/Ellis apart from there age? Tony Atkin is he different to Hall. Edited May 23, 2016 by Sidney the robin

Tony Atkin is he different to Hall. Hall started the season with Sheffield, so had his chance, sadly for him Sheffield made a change that saw Hall lose his team place, you`d think by now all the PL promoters would be well aware of Halls capabilities, or lack of, but IMO the likes of Hall shouldn't be plying their trade in our NL. *JJ 543 Posted May 23, 2016 Just goes to show - when Chipmunk became boss of the BSPA, things were going to be different - same old Dastardly, though
ch958 2,410 Posted May 23, 2016 He wouldn't have to drop down if the PL wasn't full of riders who should be EL
SCB 15 Posted May 23, 2016 I trust that all riders over the age of 30 have been told that they're going to be replaced soon? And its a joke that Shelby Rutherford, an Aussie has been allowed to return on an lower average than the one he last attained about 5 years ago!
ouch 1,215 Posted May 23, 2016 BSPA shouldn't have ruled the way they did especially as this situation is covered by the rule book satisfactorily already. It's another indicator of Chapmans bent as hell reign as chairman. He really needs to go and go soon. Imo the Brummies are strong enough to sign the kind of rider the NL should be catering to and not looking to an established old hand to fill the void. Being a stand alone club I know their need to win is greater than some but the spirit of this league should not be forgotten.
Daniel Smith 5,723 Posted May 23, 2016 The BSPA on this occasion has made the right call. The National League is not the place for experienced riders. This has been an argument for years and now with Eastbourne, Birmingham and Cradley in the National League, the development aspect of the league is being lost to the win at all costs mentality. An attitude that will, and possibly is hindering youth development.
foamfence 2,917 Posted May 23, 2016 Originally the idea was that a more experienced rider could be signed as a rider/coach, there are now some teams who you wouldn't know who that was, as there are several. You get young riders in the MDL and so on, but they struggle to go beyond that because there are so few opportunities.
Islander15 1,065 Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) The rules that were voted in allow the signing of Hall! Why should a couple of bloke's opinions on the management committee be allowed to block what the whole eague has decided is fair? If there's an issue surrounding previously established PL riders dropping down, then it should be changed in the rules and looked at in the AGM in the winter. Not halfway through the season, creating different rules for different teams. Edited May 23, 2016 by Islander15
