  1. Great respect for Tai, well deserved world champion, for the third time. But most of all for remembering his ex- Wroclaw team mate Tomasz Jędrzejak and dedicating his win to him. Tai, you,re great not only as a rider, but also as a human being. THANK YOU.

  3. I cannot believe what I am reading here. Peter Collins, despite what some people believe, is still the best British racer ever. Apart from a potential three individual world honours, what else has Tai won?. Zero. At times, he could not even be bothered to represent his country. I find that inexcusable.

  7. Another halfwit. you lot are really blessed down Cumbria way with the knack of making yourselves sound bitter about everything and anything, been whingeing all season about anything and everything and having sly digs at anything and everything you sound like you lost a tenner and found a pound.

  8. Glasgow are on a stable financial footing , but the charmer that you are telling anyone they ooze tripe is par for the course. Or is he just saying what everyone thinks and is maybe just a lot closer to the truth than you are comfortable with. As for Stewart leaving yes it was unfortunate but in every successful business these things happen it hasn't affected the numbers that come through the turnstiles. I personally have a lot of time for the Comets and there fans, always had good banter when you go down there and I hope I am wrong but it will be difficult to sustain speedway at a few I would imagine. As for winning trophies have you won any yet ? at least we have won something over the previous few seasons and the same can be said for you , you have not got a clue what goes on at Glasgow but you continue to spout p*sh about us at every turn infact you have a pop at most teams you haven't a clue about pot & kettle springs to mind.

  10. Please do your research before commenting on what does/does not happen at Workington. You clearly do not know much about the current promotion, or the efforts in place to help out this club. Yes there is a trust. No, THJ is not Hoggy. Laura has been nothing but brilliant for Workington Speedway, and has lived every fans dream of owning and running a club, although it has landed her in what is now a difficult place. This sport is dying, with every attempt made to revive it, actually losing more and more fans. Glasgow have been in our shoes before but no sympathy given. All jokes aside, you can do all the promoting you like up there, but it will be a miserable day when you have no teams left to race against. Enjoy it while it lasts, maybe on a different thread that involves your own club? Oh and a big congrats to the mighty monarchs.

  15. Okay, referring to posts on other threads on the BSF, claiming that Tai isn't as good as riders in the "good ol' days", and that there are "no stars" out there, how about this? Woffinden, Zmarzlik, Laguta, Doyle, Janowski etc ARE real superstars of speedway, and deserve to considered as such! Steve

  16. Respect to the 3 other riders in that final, especially Artem, the gave him the victory ride, fair play and it proves how popular he is amongst the riders.

  17. Absolutely, he showed real class there, as did the Polish crowd . Delighted Tai has done it, but The Poles and Bartosz Zmarzlik showed fantastic sportsmanship, real quality.

  26. Reading that, King is far too big a risk for me for next season unfortunately. Your number 1 is so so important, and for that reason I wouldn’t even consider him. We’ve seen what happened to our season as soon as he was out, it completely collapsed. We struggled to replace him with riders of sufficient quality, and it cost us. When Schlein joined him and we also failed to adequately replace him too, it killed us off completely. If we gamble on King, the man you NEED to be leading from the front and scoring double points everywhere, and he struggles badly, then that could literally be a season wasted right from the get go. We found it impossible to replace him this year, so you’d think that would also be the case next year. We surely can’t be making that kind of gamble?

  28. Towards the last part of your post is just similar to what the Workington fans were saying after their abysmal performance at Edinburgh and look what happened 24 hours later. A good start could put a bit of pressure on but our riders, in the clubhouse after the meeting, know & said it is only half time. Some of our fans have been in a similar situation in 2011 when after winning 62-32 in the 1st leg of the NL Final we then travelled to Mildenhall & lost 59-31. It was only a last heat 5-1 by Ash Birks & R Worrall that gave us the win & title. Members of that team that shared those moments were Steve & Stefan so they have been there before & know what to do. A terrific performance by the lads on a difficult night & racing surface noted by the race times. What dirt which was on the track was moved to the outside & gave us some heart stopping moments riding close to the airbags. Throttle control seemed evident as the riders seemed to skid into the corners before trying to turn. It was nice to see a happy, smiling Gino in the clubhouse afterwards as the practice showed up some flaws that he sorted with paid 14 from 5 rides & seeing Stefan back on song as well gives us the 6 riders that can score the points to, hopefully, bring us some silverware.

  29. Our Cumbrian friends taking some solace at our just failing to win speedway's most prestigious trophy last night . That's understandable as nerves get the better of them at the prospect of facing the glorious Glasgow Tigers next weekend . Losing a run off is like getting beat on penalties at football , no disgrace in that . To reach 40 on a track Workington struggles to reach 30 shows how good a performance from an under strength Glasgow it was . This served as a perfect warm up meeting for next weekend , i look forward to it with confidence .

  30. Not really .basically is the best riders in the world riding over a series of meetings that nearly always shows who the best rider is .The old format was a luck fest that ended up with a final that never had a chance of ever having the best 16riders in the world and always ended with 6 to 8 no hopers . it akin to a raffle most of the time .

  32. Free tickets were a controlled marketing initiative to try and attract new fans and even if they didn't come back they spent money on food and drink, raffle tickets. Not been used this year, try and keep up

  33. How do you know if the weather will hold out this or next weekend , could we be going into November , not sure about who would be available for NO1but if it goes on much longer we will be able to get Father Christmas to make a guest appearance.

  34. I think it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth for those who have gone every week all season but at the same time it’s a final and in any other sport you’d expect tickets to cost a bit more. So mixed feelings really. Maybe some kind of loyalty scheme could be developed to reward those who go to a certain number of meetings which would entitle them to cheaper tickets for finals (ie normal price rather than play off / cup final price).

  35. What a meeting! If only our riders could have felt the excitement of the crowd, we in the open stand were going bonkers! We started off thinking we'd get a win. then we were all moving the goal post as the meeting went on. I ended up thinking 25pts win. and one of the brothers. ( Outsider & Broadsider) finished on 30pts. How close he got to being right!. . Good to see the team up for it so to speak. Brilliant effort by all riders. As for the weather & track. the rain was so fine but looking up at the lights you could see the wind was driving it across the centre green, the track didn't seem to get wet. certainly no puddles even after the meeting was over. Good luck Scorps for the next leg!.....UP THE SCORPIONS!

  36. I really can't add anything to that... Yes, I am one of the old farts who grew up with Fundin, Briggs, Mauger, Olsen, Collins, Penhall, Nielsen, Gundersen, Rickardsson, etc... Brilliant, brilliant riders, the lot of 'em. However, when I look at Woffinden's style, and some of the moves he makes, he really does make it look easy. I was a great admirer of Gollob, and he could do things on a bike that I've never seen anyone else do, but he never made it look as effortless as an on-song Tai. I know that everyone has their own reasons - or alleged reasons (WTC wins/maxima can't be used to "prove" one rider is better than another) - but looking at it realistically, it is difficult to find a "better" British rider than Woffy... 39. People are right when they say it is impossible to compare eras. The sport is wholly different to what it was in the 50s or even in the 80s. Racers in each era can only ever be the best of their era - they can only beat who is in front of them, on the tracks of that day, using the machines of those times. Having said that, I am massively impressed by Tai Woffinden. He truly is the complete speedway rider. He has the lot. He can win from the front, he is equally brilliant from the back. He is cool under pressure and highly professional. In my time watching the sport, I would rank him up with Tony Rickardsson and Bruce Penhall as complete riders. I've no doubt Tai Woffinden will wrap up his third World Title this weekend. Beyond that, the speedway world is his oyster.

  40. You are not taking into account that there was a junior match to follow after the main meeting, those lads were there right from the start of the meeting waiting eagerly for there chance to get some racing in . So well done Ged you did the right thing getting the temp lights in action and i'm sure Ged would have wanted the minimum delay for all supporters. It was unfortunate it took so long to get the lights ready so give him some credit instead of knocking him for doing the right thing for all concerned.

  43. Speedway has been going for 90 years. In all that time, no Brit has ever won 3 individual world championships. If Tai does so, he deserves to be lauded as the most successful Brit of all time.

  44. Tai is more, much more then a one trick pony. He ca gate, he cuts back on the first bend for sure - but so well, and he can pass in exceptional ways. I am impressed how easy he makes it all look, in contrast, to say Zmarzlik whose legs are going everywhere. TW just sits and does the stuff needed. Very impressive.

  45. To me he is a one trick pony on the first turn u know he is going to cut back up the inside with his front wheel over the white line, in the good old days of one night 5rides against better riders he would look average, apart from a pole and an old american who has he to beat !

  46. No unfortunately he’s cer Unfortunately not the greatest British rider, turns his back on British league does not ride in British Final should not be allowed in any GB team , past British riders had a one off world final all a matter of five rides on the day to get it right, Tai has the Luxury of many rounds and can afford a few off meetings , backed up with large mechanical team nowadays and mostly about all out speed, I certainly believe the riders of yesteryears needed a lot more skill and sure did not rely on all out speed. Tai simply can not be classed or compared To the hero’s of yesteryear.
