  1. I'm obviously not a Workington supporter, I have only ever been there twice and that was during a couple of years when I visited every then second division track at least once and yet today I woke up with a smile on my face. Why? Because it's great to see one of the unfashionable clubs, not fancied at the beginning of the season and who have overcome obstacles put in their way, not only win the league and the cup but who have done it with ease and style. Enjoy your success. I hope that you go on to do the treble but most of all I hope that a way is found to secure the future of the club. We can't afford to lose any teams but it would seem particularly unfortunate for your fans and promoters after achieving so much this year.

  2. Well....never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be posting on a thread where I can say that Workington Comets are the Championship League Winners 2018 !!! What an amazing feeling , Lakeside were demolished last night with no answer for our boys. Even more bittersweet considering the crap this season our management and riders have had to endure . Not bad for a team forecast to finish round bottom of the league. Over the moon for everyone involved in Workington Speedway , going down in history as the best team to don the Blue & White Well done boys you have been the Dream Team that we have longed for .....Thank You My dream now would be for Workington to come to the tapes next season ........

  3. Unfashionable they maybe, but they are still a terrific little club as well. Definitely one of my favourite places to visit for more reasons than the racing alone. A quick word for Tony Jackson here. I have never met him, but I have never heard a bad word about him either (which, where speedway is concerned, is exceptional). Comets through and through, from standing on the terraces to becoming team manager and co-promoter. There's no doubt he has made a substantial contribution to Workington's season and its all the more pleasing when one of the decent guys gets his share (more than his share) of success. I echo your view regarding the future of the Comets. For me at least, speedway simply wouldn't be the same without them.

  4. Comets deserve particular praise for the way they stuck with Kyle. He got his best score yet last night and it was his pass of Wajtknecht in heat 11 that mathematically pushed Comets over the finishing line. I'm glad he has proven that Worky were justified in supporting Kyle when he was finding the adjustment to CL difficult.

  5. Well done to the Comets, who are worthy winners and whom I fully expect to join the select band of treble trophy winners tomorrow. Appropriate that the two sides that have had their scheduled Friday home fixtures messed up by the powers that be, more than anyone else, should contest the Championship Play-Off Final.

  6. Can I just say a great big thank you to everyone involved with the Comets this year, the promoters, team manager, riders, track team, everyone including the brilliant Hoggy on the mic for making this the most successful and enjoyable season ever. No thanks of course to the people responsible for running/ruining* the sport who seemed hell bent on putting obstacles in front of us (and others) during the season. It is very apt that our latest/last attempt to run our outstanding league fixture has been abandoned due to ice!!!! *delete as appropriate Hopefully we will all be back next year to defend all 3 titles. A happy (and now thankfully thawed out) Comet.

  7. It's not the teams who should be fined it's the idiots who messed up this season's fixture lists!

  8. Pass of the night, Rasmus under Kyle Newman.......unbelievable

  9. I`d say any Lakeside fan who made the considerable effort to get to Workington last night had every right to give their feelings to two of their team who, it seems, couldn't be bothered to go out and get their medal.

  10. Huge congratulations to Workington Speedway on becoming league Champions, of course its a team effort but you have to feel so happy for Laura Morgan who has had tough times with Workington, now they are top of the heap.

  12. Congratulations to Workington. I was one of those who thought it looked a poor team at the start of the season but happy to be proved wrong. Nice to see Bickley making another good contribution last night. Credit to the Workington management for sticking with him earlier in the year when he was struggling. I know they said at the start of the season there was no pressure on him but that's often said by teams and that rider is then the first to make way for changes. He's ended up more than playing his part in this success.

  13. Dont underestimate this wonderful achievement. Its massive. To have one local rider in the team is huge. To have TWO is immense in my book. I take my hat off to Laura and co for getting this team together. Reminds me so much of Poole in 1969 and to a lesser extent, 2018. No real big hitter, but everyone of the lads contribute to the TEAM effort. Slightly biased as Ive loved Klindts efforts for Poole this year and of course I do support Kyle Bickley. Now go finish the season with the treble. You certainly have my support from a very sunny, but chilly,Devon. C'mon you Comets!

  15. If any of the two teams get punished due to the second meeting not being completed, then shame on the people who make these decisions. They should be named and shamed. There is no way three major trophies competitions should be run days prior the end of October and this could/would have been avoided, should certain individuals considered what is in the best interests of British speedway.

  16. Ahh I didn't see the finger. But yeah the stick Richard was getting was right after Stefan laid down - fair enough Richard deserved it then.

  17. what was poor was Lawson giving the finger to Stefan nielsen after he came off end of race looked like stefan's throttle had jammed and he laid it down to stop him taking both kyle and Richard out

  18. Agree with all the above, the very balanced side reminds me of the Poole team, the British League Division 1 Champions in 1969, who were not at all fancied front runners. Great performances from all the Workington riders, and guests, who really wanted the double. Hope you are successful in the Shield final for a tremendous treble against a lot of adversity!! I hope you will be able to defend your titles next year, Derwent Park was on of my favourite tracks back in the 70's.

  19. Hopefully Lakeside can get it together tonight and give Worky a run for their money in the main match after all these riders need to earn some dosh from this long distance marathon....and recover the pride in actually being a very good team....Hope it's a good safe final meeting for all the riders.......And hopefully both sides can come to the tapes at the start of next season.......

  20. The happenings of the last few weeks were not the fault of the promotion but have obviously proved costly to them? ..I would have thought that now serious consideration will take place regarding next season .We the fans have to hope the club wil continue and be supported where ever they end up riding......

  21. well done to Workington well deserved good to see an unfancied and troubled club like ours do the biz.

  22. i cant see any kind of score like last night . lakeside should be sorted out with track. anyone know how i can get my hands on a runners up medal , heard there was 2 going spare !

  24. Congratulations to Workington you would have won over two legs even if we was at Arena. Shame we couldn’t put up any fight whatsoever though. The best team won.

  26. Congratulations Workington. Don’t know Laura but from what I have read she, and colleagues, have worked tirelessly to keep the club alive. Only just survived, then pre-season team selection negativity and reports of late payments, in addition to God screwing their fixture list. To then complete the double is an incredible achievement. Hope this success brings back those lost (Stoney) fans.

  27. Congratulations to all at Workington on winning the title, well deserved I'm chuffed for Laura and hope the town really gets behind the team and come out in force next season. I always enjoy my trips up there and have seen some great racing. The Comets are certainly the comeback Kings this season.

  29. Very poor from many fans tonight , a rider who rode for the Comets for years, embarrassing.

  30. If Lakeside lose tonight I wonder if those two same riders will have to "go to the toilet" again and miss the whole ceremony.

  31. Well curfew is 10pm, so there shouldn't be any fudging of the actual time. I thought it was going to be difficult even to get to 10 heats by 10pm with a 7:30pm start. Now it's a 7pm I think they should, but still don't think they'll manage to get to 15.

  32. You can criticise people for being negative, but I attended every competitive Hammers match at Arena and Rye this season. I paid my money, I'm entitled to an opinion. The move to Rye might have been the only option available to the club, but its turned out to be a disaster. Arena Essex might have been considered a dump by a lot of people, but how i miss it now. I shudder to think what the financial implications are for the club since the move.

  33. I'd guess 1300-1500, but I am not very familiar with the stadium so it is a very rough estimate. 1100 may be a fair figure for adult admissions

  34. Well done Workington, let’s hope some much needed sponsorship comes your way and you can defend your title in 2019. would be a travesty for the club to fold but the owner needs help.

  35. Well chuffed for comets, a big well done, I'm a comets fan but thought it was a poor show for the few Lakeside fans that took the long journey that Messer's Lawson and Morris plus one other did not show to receive a runners up medal !!

  36. Been gating great and hard to pass, the race when Lawson gated, got passed by Rasmus, Lawson passed Rasmus, not to be outdone Rasmus passed again and surged ahead, brilliant

  37. Well done Workington and all concerned. Great for Tony Jackson in particular who has been with Comets since the early days I think. One of the unsung heroes of the sport.

  38. Doh, I’ve put my congrats on the wrong thread (tomorrows double) Absolutely stoked for Laura and all at Workington Speedway. Following a year of rain offs and injuries makes becoming League Champions even more awesome. Let the celebrations begin...... and Good Luck for the treble tomorrow

  43. If it is him you will close down soon. Has ruined Peterborough twice mildenhall and Coventry. Well meaning buffoon. And his brother was even worse.

  44. for me there's only one question anyone need to be asking themselves , and that's eastbourne , mildenhall or any neutral fans . if the 1st leg had been rained off so thurs' meeting had then become the 1st leg would it have still been the 'matt marson southern developement select all stars' heading to arlington on friday if they were 2 up going into the 2nd leg , i assume the rest of the teams 'work commitments' would have been the same ?

  45. I think people need to forget the idea of returning to Essex it’s never going to happen no matter how much Cook and Douglas try, in my opinion anyway. The Rye move just hasn’t worked out at all so anywhere would most probably be better just not sure the fans will go in numbers to either Eastbourne or Kent. As sad as it is i just don’t see the club surviving much longer but of course I hope I am wrong and the club goes from strength to strength and does one day return home.

  46. That’s the point - it doesn’t expire. For example, you get a license to promote speedway at Poole Speedway - that stops anyone else doing the same - and devaluing your product. If anyone wants to promote in Coventry then Mick Horton currently has the license - unless someone buys it off him - following the BSPA rules.

  49. The bike he had there on Monday was a dummy bike that was knitted out with his bike covers. His season has finished and while money isn't everything why should he ride in a meeting for a few hundred quid when he was there to meet the fans after making history as the first three time World Champion from Britain. Riding was was never in consideration and let's face it, it's not exactly a line up to test him or even riders like Fricke, Lambert, Iversen and Doyle who have full bike set ups here but it's not questioned why they were not riding. Yes merchandise sales were part of it but to knock him for turning up and putting a smile on many faces that night is surprising anyone would even question it. At least he did his bit by doubling the gate and never had a holiday booked
