  5. Geoff is a pair of Workington fans, who often go fishing on threads, nowt to do with Scorpions Today, rather than fishing on threads, they should have gone fishing in that puddle behind George Hope this miserable weather stops soon - some riders must be really struggling for income at the moment.

  6. Boring GP? I thought all that was needed was 'star' riders to make exciting racing and the crowds come flocking back?

  7. This is the correct thread. Why do you believe the one you started (after this one) is the correct one?

  8. Sorry, but I have to disagree... League racing DID receive a lot of coverage back, just not live coverage on cable channels that a lot of people don't have. League results (with top scorers) were listed given in the national newspapers. There were regular articles (several times a week) about league racing featured in the national newspapers. The team lineups for meetings in London were published in the London Evening News. League matches were often shown on Regional TV stations (Anglia TV is the one that springs to mind). League results were given on several radio stations - LBC and Radio Luxembourg are the ones I remember... Okay, these may seem antiquated now, but it was all we had back then. And EVERYONE was exposed to speedway as a result. And EVERYONE knew what speedway was. And EVERYONE knew that they were driving past a "speedway" stadium. Today, the only way you will drive past a speedway stadium is if you are actually going there... Let's not forget that other sports only had the same coverage as speedway did. We didn't have multiple live football matches shown every day in the 60's and 70's, and crowds weren't any lower back then. Plus, I think it is ridiculous to claim that crowds "went to watch their local teams on the back of the sport being beamed into their living rooms"; if anything, it was the other way round. We had the fanbase long before ITV's World of Sport came along, and the television coverage was the result of having an exciting and successful sport already in place. TV coverage was a natural progression from successful domestic speedway, and not the other way round. Steve

  12. Coty like Jye another one riding not fully fit. Surprised tonight by NBJ performance, rode really well at Leicester last season in Premier League. 18pts is possible to bring back, should be interesting next Saturday.

  13. It is good improvements will be made but we've heard this every year for at least 15 years. The truth is its a terrible track for racing and that hasn't changed nor will it change. But there will be another Prague GP for the foreseeable time and every year we'll say it's rubbish. Speedway shoots itself on the foot every day. GP's should run be on the best tracks that let riders show there skills.

  16. All you have to do is look at Facebook with George English explaining they had taken off 13 tankersfull, and the water at about 1.00pm with three quarters of the track still under water. We have had tremendous floods this week and we are denied access to the track by the stadium owners, we could only start the track preparation easy this morning. Jonny can make decent tracks after heavy rain during the week, but the monsoon weather is just too much to get a safe racing strip even though it is warm outside ATTM. Add in more rain forecast for 5.00pm and the situation doesn't need any justification. With your probs, today was a meeting waiting to be won by the Diamonds.

  17. I am beginning to agree especially when each televised match portrays a sport that has a couple of hundred elderly people still following. I was a firm advocate of keeping speedway on TV but the promoters have no idea how to utilise it to best effect. So, yes, perhaps it is time to end it when the current contract runs out. Before taking on this contract they should have jointly agreed to open the doors for £10 and make an effort to fill it up. Are the sponsors over the moon with the coverage they get and so urge Buster et al to continue with it?

  18. £20,000?? Thats over 1300 paying adults (taking account of VAT) Are there that many each week anyway to make that possible even if it was made free on the night? Charging full admission will mean many hundreds will stay at home and watch it on TV and is a sure way of maximising that shortfall.

  19. There is a place for speedway on tv every other sport seems to do ok it just proves that the promotorsdeal not very good at negotiating a good deal just an opinion

  20. Broadcasting these events from an empty stadium shows the sport in a bad light. Surely the promoters want the casual viewer to think that Speedway is still popular in this country. A big crowd might encourage a few people to return to the sport, or some newbies to give it a try.

  23. Just be thankful of speedway instead of moaning about the team , Leicester are a very very good side , and they would have expected to win the meeting comfortably

  24. Bad news regards the injury to Tobi, he is really suffering with injuries this year and makes you wonder if he is coming back too early from injuries. He is a hard one to cover for so let’s hope he recovers quickly. Quick recovery Tobi.

  34. It was a GP, and you expect tough racing. Leaving very little room, but not barging a rider into the fence.

  35. Cracking rider Madsen... You don't be top five in Poland for several years without being world class and a bit ruthless.. Not many riders could ride so narrow at that speed down a straight and not drift to the fence on a slick track.. Proper talent... And whilst I have a soft spot for Dudek, Madsen isn't Polish... Tai 3 Poland 1...

  36. You sometimes have to ask what you need to do to get excluded? Football is always criticised for the play acting but if Fricke had gone there, Madsen would have been excluded. It’s the sort of think that Pedersen would have been castigated for, or a habit Lingren seems to be comfortable with lately Ive been delighted at Madsen’s progress this year but very disappointed in that sort of life threatening behaviour.

  37. It’s a tough one and at the risk of repeating what I said last week, Madsen just about had the lead. Max, like Bomber, decided to keep it wound on rather than read the move. He doesn’t leave racing room but this is top level speedway.

  38. That's not what you said. You said that only Schlein was of Premiership quality, which is not true. You could also include Wells but I gave you the benefit of the doubt there.

  39. I doubt you or others would be saying that if it was Nicki Pedersen and not Leon Madsen pulling off that move.

  40. Why on earth do they insist on going to this utter dump of a track every season??? It’s complete garbage year after boring year and has to be the worst GP by far. Anyone that pays money to watch this drivel needs their head examining. And they won’t give a GP to the NSS but persist on taking one here to a crap hole that probably can’t get many more people in anyway??? Lunacy

  41. Telephone number for Perry Barr Travelodge is 0333 014 6269. Cost for a twin bedroom is £69 but there are often deals available. I think this is a different hotel to the one mentioned earlier as the address is given as Aldridge Road, Perry Barr - which is the same road that the stadium is in. This place is about 400 yards from the speedway. Hope this is useful.

  42. There is also a small hotel only a matter of about 200 yards from the stadium, the Park Hotel. There is a car park at the stadium run by the GRA who make a charge of £2.50, but free parking is available at the One Stop shopping centre opposite the stadium. Parking there is normally limited to 3 hours, but this restriction is waived on speedway nights from 7pm onwards. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Was you in there when Nigel Leaver(sure it was him)done a collection because he had blown an engine, riders weren't so well off then.In exchange for people putting money in,his wife/partner done a bit of a strip.I soon got my money in the glass. Seriously though had some great nights in Champs bar, then food in Lynn then back home to Wisbech.Remember ending up round Henka's once for an after party, party. That was when Simon was about 2/3yrs old.I could waffle on for ages about all that stuff, but i did make a lot of good friends from those days.
