Shame if Ablitt will not ride again, he looked very good in those matches that I saw. But the Mulford boy looks even better. Spectacular in the extreme and was certainly the reason for Kent's win over Belle Vue IMO. I am told he is very good on Grass which brings to mind the bad news I head this morning that James Shanes has had a very bad Grass accident with some very serious injuries. Whatever our allegiances, everyone on this forum will wish him a full and speedy recovery.. That's for sure.4 points

Let's face it, if it was really bad we would be up to 50 pages by now of people slating it. As it's reasonably quiet I think we all know the track was alright!!3 points

He doesnt need more racing because the issue is in his head. He isn't going to ride himself out of it. Woffinden was right. Its mental and frankly dan needs to grow a pair of balls. He has started to ride within himself and is timid on the track. I can see it and so can a multi world champion. I appreciate he is coming back from big injuries but unfortunately this is a tough motorsport and the best way to recover is to attack it. I was slandered on here earlier in the season for daring to suggest he needed a crash that would test his body, it would cope and he would be back where he needs to be mentally. Hes always been fragile dan. From that first head injury up at Newcastle. Motorsport is a mans game and until he shakes this crash out of his psyche he is going to become a very average rider and that is what we are seeing right now. Cant gate. No track craft because he isn't in the right place mentally. What he needs is a psychologist to help him overcome it, not more rides. May be an unpopular opinion but that is the way I see it.3 points

Talking in general Rob.. Too much of a comfort zone for these lads is built by having the option to drop down.. Dan has left the second tier behind (or at least he should have), but no doubt next year his average will once again allow him to drop back down again and make him a desirable rider for some lower order team.. Woffy did it right by getting out, no point being a big fish in a tiny pond as that isn't a truly reflection of where you are in the bigger picture, therefore these lads need to face proper pressure every week rather than riding in front of 1000 or so with no one too bothered who wins... Riding under real pressure from fans and owners can only focus the mind more acutely.. I think some lads get far too much praise, far too early, without actually doing anything but beating mediocre domestic rivals, which can give a far too highly inflated reputation... After four or five seasons of racing I would suggest you are not too far away from where your true level is so if your still doubling up, your probably not going to make it to the top level as you really should have moved on..3 points

Loads at Sheffield on Sunday; as usual. One guy on the apex of the 3rd and 4th bends, who looks like he has a penchant towards home made meat and potato pies (yum) went the full length f the centre green to assist in repairing the air fence on bend 2 after Rasmus Jensen hit it. Once sorted the riders were put on 2 minutes for the rerum as he was tidying up, but he still legged it back across one of the biggest centre greens in British speedway to be in position before tapes up. And was raking as soon as the riders had left the track after that and each heat. Well done that man. Excellent commitment to the cause.2 points

He hinted at a return to British Speedway - I don’t recall him hinting at Poole. He did also say it was dependent on a visa which he hasn’t looked into. I’m not sure he would be eligible to get a visa currently either.2 points

Doyley would have not have been riding flat out to pass Klindt if the track was bad. Bumpy in places yes but definitely not a boring meeting at all. I thought it was a good watch and I love a good Poole bash as much as the next person!2 points

Bandits 1 Aaron Summers 2 Jye Etheridge 3 Dany Gappmaier 4 Kev Doolan 5 Nicolaj Busk Jacobsen r/r 6 Coty Garcia 7 Leon Flint Scorpions 1 Jake Allen 2 Danny Ayres r/r 3 Stefan Nielsen 4 Josh Auty 5 Ben Barker 6 Ryan Kinsley 7 Simon Lambert A rare midweek home outing for the Bandits against a Scorpions side filled with riders who have all gone well at Shielfield in the past – Ben Barker recently so when guesting for Somerset. Should be a comfortable home win but as heat 15 on Saturday showed it’s best not to take anything for granted. Both sides operating rider-replacement. Housekeeping notes: gates open 6.30pm. Anyone who was at the Eastbourne meeting already has a programme containing the racecard for Wednesday night. If you forget to bring it, weren’t there on Saturday, are a supporter of Scunthorpe, a 15-match Bandits’ season pass holder determined to get their full entitlement or just have a thing for buying programmes they are on sale as normal, priced £3. As usual accompanied children are admitted free. Friends and Family deal operating. Obviously if you already have a programme it doesn’t make financial sense – but life is all about making choices so if you insist we’ll let you pay an extra quid. Anyone wanting to join the new 5-1 Draw should waylay a member of the Supporter’s Club – most obviously on the third bend or in the B&G after racing finishes. Only 120 numbers and they were filling up fast on Saturday night. Monthly prizes of £500 and £100. £600 to the S.T.A.R.S. Project, first draw August 31.1 point

Only Swindon have a chance of beating Poole in a final. The rest of us might as well not bother.1 point

Track was a little bumpy but many are not just Poole. There were plenty of passes, I think you must have dozed off.1 point

In fairness Steve, Swindon are favourites judging by last night, as you say too much top end firepower for us but we have riders who go well at The Abbey so we can keep it close especially if our reserves fire like they can.1 point

Yes, if you come along the A61 from that way, you'll see Hillsborough on your right about half a mile before Owlerton on the left. I had to laugh when you said you were long suffering supporting the Baggies... this time 3 years ago, the Blades were bottom of League One with 1 point... if someone had said then that we'd be in the Prem now, I think I would have recommended they be sectioned Most people are given the right to appeal - if he was banned during an appeal and subsequently found to be innocent/not guilty, he could put in all manner of claims for loss of earnings etc. etc.1 point

Kent look a very strong side when Ledwith returns. If the averages move Kemp back to number 1 that would be another boost and could mean that steady but not spectacular Jenkins could become the best number 2 in the league. Mulford looks certain to continue at reserve now as averages are in play. Clouting has been doing a job but is only injury cover so if Spooner can get fit i can't see any side with a more complete 1-7.1 point

He's not right. Newman only had 3 rides. Perks replaced him in heat 8 and also scored 0.1 point

Its like talking to a 5 year old.. i don't hate Auty i just think he's a very average rider. You tried to argue he isn't because he is good at Scunthorpe which is stupid. I pointed out there are a lot of very average riders who were good at one track doesn't mean they are good riders. Then you start spouting rubbish about home track advantage etc!! No wonder you are the forum clown who no one listens to1 point

Maybe NL matches should not be over15 heats anyway, perhaps 12 heats is enough with, if time and circumstances allows, a couple of additional races for the highest scorers with points earned accumulating over the season to an individual award? If the extra heats don't take place, it's a shame but it doesn't mess up the match result. Also it's ridiculous that Leicester, for example, can use r/r at this level for almost the full season. This is another delayer to matches and it should only be allowed in limited circumstances.1 point

Just watched a replay of the final. What a race. Fearless Freddie was amazing, but not far behind in the amazing stakes were Madsen (carrying a massive injury but you wouldnt know it unless told) and Janowski. Not cared too much for Madsen in the past, too much of a gater I thought, but he proved me wrong this year. Yes he can gate, but he chases and goes for gaps and often succeeds. Magic is just magic at times. The quiet one, just does his stuff efficiently, sneaks under my radar many times. Must mention Max Fricke..... what a trier. He is hungry for GP success..... and its going to come, and when it does it could open the flood gates. His crash last night was pretty horrid, but he come back, obviously hurting. I hope he is in the series next year one way or another. Woffinden is assured of a pick for next year. Fair do's to him for riding, but he riding safely and thats ok. He keeping in touch with the opposition in the best way..... on the track. Gives him a chance to do a bit of bike testing as well, and he is clever enough to have thought of that. I enjoy his commentaries as well. Bit of a changed character to a few years ago when he was swearing a lot when interviewed. That had to stop and it has.1 point

We communicated for quite a few years in the run up to his books being published, not least because I had some information he was interested in. He was perfectly fine until one day out of the blue I got an abrupt and rude message basically cutting off communication (although a year or so later made a conciliatory approach). I've no idea what I did, but it's pretty clear he did this to plenty of people so I don't lose sleep about it. Undoubtedly a great promoter, great thinker and good writer too, and knowing what I know now, someone probably someone who carried a significant amount of worry. But I don't buy into the hagiography.1 point

I recall eavesdropping on a discussion between John and a group of Oxford fans at Cowley and he seemed to be quite happy engaging with them and they all shook hands when they went their seperate ways.1 point
-
I mostly talked to John on forums, but never got that impression of him. To me, he came across as a very intelligent man, and one who could tolerate people with a different view, while explaining his own take on matters. I think he would have been capable of tackling the BSPA job, had he been given the chance.1 point
-
He actually co-promoted at Cowley (1990) during the last years of Northern Sports if I recall although that period was obviously after the supposed new 'directive' under discussion. I remember that he and John Berry were to be the 'dream team' with Peter on the commercial side of operations until John resigned and Peter wss left to fight his corner which proved unviable in the end due to the usual indecison of the BSPA (and split between the two leagues at the time) which, apparently, continues to this day.1 point
-
IT was quite simple. John required full autonomy and, at the last minute, the members of the BSPA chickened out of giving him full control and, basically, JB told them what they could do with it.1 point

THE question has been asked and answered countless times... and the answer is always the same. It was an opportunity lost.1 point

BUT they are on the shelves at Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, etc. Had we continued to pay WH Smith their 'ransom' money we might not be anywhere! There will be changes to the manner in which subs copies are sent in October. Ayres will feature in the future. Thanks for your final comments.1 point
