If he was ill yesterday and clearly at risk today, why travel? Its selfish and I suspect there is more going on than on the face of it.5 points

Well Done to Kaiser Erik, great performance. But lets also celebrate Tom Woolley, he matched GB & Glasgow (and defending champion) star Craig Cook's score - and from one less ride4 points

Many tracks no longer fit with modern engines. Look at what is served up at some tracks that were superb even less than 10 years ago. Whilst its not the only reason for the lack of entertainment, team owners need to adapt their product (track shape/width etc) to suit the modern era. Very few have or will bother to do so. Entertainment IMO is about passing not necessarily speed and the ridiculous gulf between abilities at the top and bottom of the riders averages wont achieve that. Nor will poorly prepared tracks. If last night the riders were on £250 for the meeting that is likely to be around a quarter of what most of the top enders will take home. I'm not surprised they don't take it seriously or put themselves out. There is no prestige in these events and wont be again unless the competitors are adequately rewarded for taking part. Speedway doesn't even give out medals to the league winners far less reward the riders and their teams for being better than the rest over a season. The whole ethos up is fundamentally flawed but we already know that. Unfortunately we also accept its not going to change.3 points

That's strange, cos there is a panthers fan called Daniel Green that's also a spurs fan, and it's one of the accounts you would guess it to be. What's the chances, tut.3 points

I liked the tractor guy at Scunthorpe on Friday evening... we didn't see him until after heat 10... and then never saw him again. There were zero track rakers and the track was fine all night3 points

Is this thread still going? I’ll give a “fact”. Poole won easily again at Ipswich. Can we race you every week?2 points

To be fair (no pun) Slaters are there same time in September every year, irrespective that speedway is on. It rarely if at any time causes disruption, unless Ben Barker is riding who would rather be on the rides, a bit more exciting for him than speedway.2 points

In 3 rides the furthest he got was bend 2, definately bike trouble I would say2 points

http://www.sheffield-speedway.com/news.php?extend.2791 has some great action pictures of the 23 minutes of racing, but not a single picture of the 2 hours of track grading. The tractor man must be gutted.2 points

The only thing I remember from last year was the ridiculous not swap guests from 1st and 2nd leg.2 points

If a track has dirt on it then the tractors are needed to keep it race-able with todays modern bikes. The slicker the track to start with then the less work needed. At Redcar we use 2 tractors along with a water bowser and because this work gets done every approx 4 heats the track at the end is still in great condition. If you think Speedway is bad have you ever been to Ice Speedway ? After every 4 heats its about a 20 minute delay for grading and smoothing of the surface. Normally in about -10 degrees.2 points

It's a shame, that as quite a prolific Twitter user, his back injury didn't allow him to reach for his phone before the event to let his fans know he wouldn't be there. I expected better of Scott2 points

It's another nail in the speedway coffin .Its the same every week and just winds people up.Apparently yesterday's hold ups where down to mr Cook who allegedly went round the other riders trying to get the meeting stopped because of track conditions. The same mr Cook who had a bad day with his machinery and hardly ever breaks down in other meetings.Very odd.I feel sorry for all the Glasgow fans who turned up to support him and paid to watch him.2 points

If it wasn't for their coverage of the GP's. I would ditch BT Sport, their League coverage has been very poor, and now they change this meeting for rudy German Football.2 points

It’s his usual line, completely incapable of having a proper discussion unfortunately. Best ignored.2 points

So that's Charlie & Erik both individual champions.. can Redcar now win the league which would be a great season as long as the diamonds win the cup,,2 points

I'd just like to point out that the folks who were annoyed at zagar and iversen for qualifying for next year should get their coats2 points

Which is completely his own fault with the bare minimum cheap ass team he has provided us with this year.1 point

Because he tells lies. He did not change bikes and did not alter anything on the bikes. If he was ill, fine, say that and stick to it. just be honest with the people who pay to watch I hope Nicholls gets a ban as when I heard the pay rates on Thursday, he was first name to spring to mind for not turning up. Charles Wright missed a meeting at Ipswich but rode either side of it, so he should have a ban. with no punishment it will carry on. The clubs should also get no facility to cover any bans for riders picking and choosing when to put in any effort or not.1 point

Ove was booed at most tracks because he always beat local heroes. Ivan Mauger suffered in the same way. I would think the most unpopular rider has been Nicki Pedersen.1 point

Looking forward to this, hopefully the weather plays ball and we see all thirty races. Glasgow always bring a massive support so hopefully the fans of Edinburgh will join us come Saturday to give Shielfields its biggest attendance in years.1 point

I think it happened in the 70's when Leicester travelled to Belle Vue for a 'top of the table clash'. Belle Vue hadn't lost at home for ages but Leicester were leading 37-35 with one race to go. Heat 13 was stopped after a crash, with one of the home team excluded. A fracas ensued which ended up with most of the riders and mechanics etc. involved, along with various other people. The referee proceeded to exclude the other riders under the two minute rule and declared the meeting over! I wasn't there myself but I wish I had been. I believe there are differing versions as to why the last race didn't happen but the result was definitely 37-35 to Leicester.1 point

I never saw Clive ride but I was lucky enough to interview him for the Owlerton Legends book a few years ago. I wrote to Clive and he invited me to spend the day with him - he was living in a luxury caravan at the time on a farm near Norwich. I was a bit nervous as I had only heard stories about what a hard rider he was but I need not have worried. Clive was one of the nicest men you could wish to meet and could not have been more helpful. It was a fantastic day and we kept in touch for a while afterwards, including him finding me at Owlerton one Thursday night when he was visiting. R.I.P. Clive, a true Owlerton Legend and a gentleman.1 point

Touch of the Big Time Charlies about us last night . While we moaned and whinged about the track , the Scunny riders got on with it. attacked the track with a purpose and were well worthy of the win . 53-37 didn't flatter them at all . We're coming to the time of year when tracks ate going to be difficult and weather affected , and if we show the attitude we showed last night we'll be winning nothing1 point

Some posts on here really haven't aged very well at all have they, bemoaning the 'no hope' Zagar and Iversen for qualifying for next year. Who are those two in tonights final again?1 point

of them Pottinger would seem most suited. Local lad and well liked in the sport all indications are Cradley wont come to tapes next season and a few miles across the West Midlands once a week would seem to be more desirable to a Black County lad surely than a trek down to Sussex where they seem to have more team managers and management than anyone else. Will would do a great job I'm thinking. Gerrim in1 point

But surely Plymouth can't go on without Wallinger? They will have to close the club down.1 point

Drew might have been practising but if this is just your view on a double change, I can not see it happening. I am sure I have seen it somewhere where a guy, in the know of most rules, pointed out to other posters that if you make a double change & your team is over the limit then you have to re-declare to the top limit. As you stand at 43.8 & Worrall & Lawlor come in at 10.25 that would drop you to 6.45 for the change. As Kemp is on 4.19 your other rider would have to be 2.26 or less. Your guest & Lawlor have been getting about 10 points per meeting. Would Kemp & A N Other get these points? NO! Therefore, I very much doubt you will be making the changes that you have suggested.1 point

And now David Wallinger (remember him? The rider who wanted to leave Plymouth and sign for Redcar, but was stopped from doing so by the authorities?) has been dropped by Plymouth!1 point

Very similar to TK from a Coventry viewpoint and potentially being a World Champion. Charismatic, Dependable and capable of beating anyone in the world day in day out. Happy Retirement AJ1 point

Top quality rider, have some great memories of his time a Brandon. Just sad that he didn't manage to lift a world title as i always thought it was within his capabilities.1 point
