  1. Mmmmm. Interesting Iris123 and thank you, indeed, food for thought. I have a question and its a pertinent one. Is this service available via one of the true wonders of the modern world, that is to say, the telephone, perchance? And if that it is indeed the case in point, do Messrs WHSmith accept postal orders as remittance (in part or full) for said purchases? Personally I cannot wait for the Internet to be invented whereby I can eagerly, and enthusiastically, look forward to the day companies decide to sell their wares "on-the-line", as I believe the correct parlance may well turn out to be.

  2. This total makes sense to me, and is in no way the ramblings of a fantasist who is making up crap and seeking attention. It's simple. He went from his home in Penge to Bromley for a lunch (which he said 3 pages ago he was treating himself to with the money he's saved because he definitely isn't buying Tai Woffinden's book). After lunch he called in at the Bromley WH Smith to ask about the TW book (which he isn't going to buy) by giving a vaguely misleading discription of Lewis Hamilton. The confused assistant took the easy way out by telling him they don't stock whatever book he was rambling on about and describing so badly. He then got the bus home to Penge... but part way through the journey, he disembarked the bus in Beckenham, to visit another branch of the self-same national chain of shops, who had already told him they don't stock the book that he doesn't want to buy (even though they do). He then had to wait for the next bus of the same service that he had just needlessly got off. Sounds believeable to me. No Mr Dodd. That's not how income tax works. But the good news is that there is no VAT on books. (And definitely no VAT on books you haven't bought and never intend to buy). Again, why are you so sceptical? What is the point of Facebook if not to ask for book reviews from people who don't have the book in question? Maybe you aren't a member of enough prestigious Facebook groups?

  3. I think Hawkins is getting a raw deal here, makes perfect sense to get Sarjeant and Heeps’ rides done as early as possible and for Allen’s last three rides to be against reserves. Don’t think that was at all responsible for the collapse.

  4. If this ludicrous story is even half true you need your head examined for even asking. They probably thought you were a patient from Bethlem Hospital on day release.

  5. First leg for us then , no matter , we need to be on it right from the start to build a decent lead . Both sides should be at full strength , so let's do this Tigers

  6. Why the f..k do i have to justify to you why i dont go! And why should people get flak for not going....... For all her faults on here at times Lisa Colette doesnt go much because she has a life that isnt just speedway..................nothing wrong in that Maybe if your life involved more than just Poole speedway you would understand

  7. So funny reading this thread. When Ipswich were mauling Poole,it was a great meeting, yet largely gate n go. Poole start winning races and suddenly its poor meeting with all the gate n go! Me thinks a few folk starting gloating a little prematurely!

  9. What a wonderful way of covering all your bases (thats a baseball term btw). Heeps was publicly giving it large before the meeting, but apart from being gifted a point or so, he hasn't really performed since he came out of reserve. 'Poole have riders like Kurtz, Klindt and Holder', but Kurtz always 'goes missing' in the later heats according to you but 'still rides Foxhole better than Poole'?! Everyone of your posts involving Poole always has a positive and negative argument, so you can always come back and say you got it right. Very repetitive as usual.

  10. To be fair, the confused old fool was in the Fresh Fish aisle at the time. Why would anyone ever have the need to be visiting two different WH Smith branches, in two different towns, in one day? Something smells fishy here (And it isn't the Penge Sainsbury's)

  11. How the hell did Ipswich give up that lead !!! An enjoyable meeting to watch from a neutral but I really thought Ippo had done the job. I can't see Poole letting this go now unfortunately. Expected much more from Iversen, a GP rider , pretty poor all night and let the Witches down in vital heats . Why teams still keep signing Sargeant is beyond me, he's absolute garbage , he's done nothing since he took the pi** out of Workington a few seasons ago, that's karma for ya... Anyway all set up for a decent meeting at Ippo tomorrow night , need the track suited to the home riders otherwise I feel Poole will run riot , best of luck Ipswich , the underdogs can always spoil a party

  14. Just got back. I don’t think I have ever in my 46 years of watching speedway ever seen a meeting of two halves like that. It was quite frankly ridiculous. I got to the stadium at 6.30 and they were watering the track. Then at 7 pm there was a short sharp shower which lasted about 5 minutes. Enough to wet the ground. The track still looked in very good condition though. However, as the riders came to tapes in heat one we got another shower which lasted 2-3 mins. The track looked a little greasy. What the rain had done, together with the heavy rain we have had over the last two days, had made it greasy and tricky. The outside line by the fence came into play and the Ipswich riders were gating and getting straight out wide and then were impossible to catch. We were being mullered. To such an extent that by heat 8, and 12 points down, all hope had vanished into the ether and everyone around me, myself included, chilled and accepted that this season was not going to be our season. It really was men against boys. Led by Chris Harris who was revelling in the racing conditions. There was no holding him out, and with Lawson proved a potent force. Then something happened. Klindt and Josh G gated over King and held him off to reduce the gap to 8. But the next heat proved false hope as Harris won a good battle with Covatti and Brady was last. Ten down and looking at the Ipswich team it was hard to see where we would get a heat advantage from, when you consider how well the Witches riders were doing. Heat 11 and a shock 5-1. Holder who had been poor in his first two rides popped out with a battling THJ, in front of Iversen. We were wondering how long it would take Iversen to split our boys but as the laps went on he wasn’t closing. A remarkable and unexpected 5-1 to reduce the deficit to 6. THJ was then brought out in place of Wells in the next and what a cracking race it was. THJ gated with Klindt but Harris got between them and then started to chase down and pass THJ. They battled side by side for a lap before Harris charged under THJ entering lap four but THJ wasn’t moving and Harris touched THJ calling a slide off. The fact that Harris also fell gave the game away and an awarded 5-1 meant there was only two in it. Heat 13 and it was game on. Poole gated and a challenge from Iversen petered out and beyond our wildest dreams we were two up. Thoughts were that we could possibly draw or win the meeting. Heat 14 and the wheels had come off the Ipswich bus as THJ and Josh G gated and won at a canter. In heat 15 I must admit I was surprised at the Poole picks but it turned into another great race with Harris climbing all over the Pirates for three laps before charging under both entering the 4th lap. The Poole boys then going either side of Harris to stun the crowd and open up a ten point lead to take to the second leg. It’s far from over. Middlo said afterwards at the press conference he would have been happy with 8 before the meeting and very happy with ten. Ipswich will come back hard at us after this. The team to go through is far from decided. I will say if we hadn’t had that rain Poole wouldn’t have been so poor in the first half. THJ was named rider of the night. He said he was much happier with his performance. So were we. I have never seen a team collapse like that. From being utterly dominant to losing 6 of the last 7 heats by 5-1 or 32-10 is frankly ridiculous. And people say Middlo is not a good manager! He doesn’t know what losing is about, unlike myself who had given up the ghost. Sorry for the length of this post.

  17. I don’t think they got complacent, they just failed to adapt to the changing conditions and lost the ability to gate.

  18. It is in my experience, as you say very predictable. Good in theory, but in practice the best rider generally wins all the heats, the 2nd best comes 2nd most of the time and the 3rd comes 3rd...

  19. I don't like the use of the word choke as it disrespects the opponent, however on this occasion it seems apt. As a neutral it looked like the Witches thought the job was done with 5 heats to go,

  22. Then good riders either ride for another team or give up and only ride abroad, fans lose interest, even the young ones who have built up an affinity with a certain rider, and less attend the meetings yet the bspa still wonder why clubs are suffering financially.

  23. If you don't know the facts then you have no idea whether what I am saying is 'idle gossip' or the truth of the matter (on this or any other occasion). I'll let others decide on the strength of my reputation as a poster if it is true or not and, unlike you, most of them will not let their club bias get in the way when they do.

  24. Lol .....you have won twice at Foxhall already this season yet you think we can pull back 10 points.............try for once admitting that your are hot hot favourites and not only should you breeze through you are favourites to win on the night....nice try though Wont be there.....got a housewarming party to go to which is much more important to me. Would have been at Ipswich last night if the dates wasnt moved

  26. Well after recording it and watching it today many points come to light The result was expected , a 10 point defeat, but obviously the manner of the defeat was the problem To be nicely in front and then lose by 10 should never happen but it can do Poole fans should be worried that if they are that poor early doors against better sides there is now way they will get close and possibly the final will be very one sided Can Ipswich get 10 points back.........no........or Poole will have had the biggest of chokes......dont forget Poole have won twice at Foxhall so they should actually win the meeting rather than keep it tight. We need to hit them hard early but the problem is Poole have riders like Kurtz , Klindt and Holder who ride Foxhall better than they do Poole...add in Covatti and then its clear why Poole are hot favourites THJ is poor at our place but Wells isnt so that evens out People having a pop at Iversen forget he cant stand Poole and neither can Heeps At the end of the day we have had a good season just a shame we couldnt beat the title favourites when we had a chance Poole will win the second leg as well

  28. Damn right. The attendance was pitiful (hardly surprising with rescheduling, rain and TV), but it felt like a packed stadium for the final three heats. Brilliant atmosphere.

  29. The other interesting feature of the Swedish div One is that each team has a 250cc rider who rides four races against the other 250cc riders. ( The German Team cup - effectively their second division also do this.) [Both countries use a four team tournament format] Last year Philip Hellstrom-Bangs was the top 250cc rider winning all 30 races in div One; this year he is second in div One 500cc averages to Joel Kling. The majority of the riders are under 21, but in Tony Gudbrand and Benny Johansson they have their versions of Jon Armstrong and Tony Atkin.

  31. Yep, nothing wrong with his calls at all. Leave Sarj in heat 9 when 12 up. Allen would be needed later on. As it happens a truly crazy turnaround. When the track has rain on it it always favours the away side to start with. Poole yet again proving they can never be written off in the play offs, must be favourites as well.

  32. The track tonight was never slick. Track times were 4 seconds off the norm and the fastest time was just under 63 seconds, which would have been the slowest race of the season before tonight. Nice smooth track tonight as well. No bumps.

  33. But that would have been the end of the story, unless Gustix reeled back in horror at the tattooed pic of Tai and said, look at the state of him. You wouldn’t catch Jack Parker looking like that, whilst walking out of the shop shaking his head and carrying on the conversation with a couple of teenagers at the bus stop

  34. Hmmmm... It was only a few months ago we were discussing some things on here, and not only did you not know the riders who were being discussed, but I had to inform you of the existence of some of the current world championships... Not bad for someone who has an "overall knowledge" of the sport - particularly when you have often boasted how disinterested with speedway you have been for decades. Still, what's one more contradiction from a speedway journalist who wasn't a speedway journalist? Steve

  35. I would say that Halifaxtiger is a highly reputable poster and vast supporter of the sport rather any blinkered allegiances. He is fully entitled to keep his sources private as discussions locally are not always intended to be on the record but often incredibly accurate and incitement. The promotion at Plymouth have stated upon their own forum that financial increases are required and large sums if a step up in league is required. Facts will become evident as unless the tide of losses is stemmed then the current promotion could step away from the club and the risk of losses is even higher in the upper leagues.

  37. Meeting Postponed Tonight’s Play Off Semi-Final against Leicester has been postponed due to a waterlogged track and a poor weather forecast. Heavy rain over the last week has left the Media Prima Arena sodden and with more rain forecast for this afternoon, the decision has been taken to make an early call. Promoter Jitendra Duffill added, “We needed a full day of dry weather to get our track into good shape and it’s looking very unlikely that will happen. I don’t want to run the most important meeting of the season in poor conditions and I don’t want to inconvenience travelling riders and supporters by cancelling last minute.” The meeting has been rearranged to take place next Friday 4th October, with the usual start time of 7.30PM.

  39. 10 point lead for Poole to take to Foxhole should be plenty. However it’s all Poole’s to chuck away. With the Pirates habit of choking I can see this going to heat 30.

  45. The important thing now for Smederna now is to secure Jerker, Jimmy and Jarl for the next season. Also the interview with Fredrik Lindgren after the meeting when the team celebrated, the reporter asked him if there is any chance for him to continue at Smederna, Fredrik obviously said No, but you could see that he got emotional about it, was probably a hard decision for him to take. We all know that Smederna perform best when they need to, but never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that we would absolutely crush Dackarna.
