  1. For his own safety should stay retired.IMO

  2. The reality of what happened is Wolves made it and Belle Vue didnt, its as simple as that. Wolves probably lost silly points they should of got over the season as did BV. Its speedway.

  4. TBF this topic is just a bit of fun before the season kicks in, me personally, I hope 2020 is a season to remember and for all the right reasons. Good luck and best wishes to all teams and fans.

  5. I don’t see it that way because if all the riders we expect to improve do then those extra points will soon be gobbled up. However if we get off to a poor start there will be massive scope to bring in a big hitter assuming someone is expecting to come of course.

  6. All these prediction are good, but only if the the teams don't have injuries and I have seem too many season to know this never happens.

  7. That was 91 tho wasn't it ? , so top league by then.. i remember seeing him as a wobbler in the second half against Cradley that year or even possibly 92 - na 91 i reckon. The common link with most of the riders named is Neil Street. It wasn't just the Aussies he advised/coached/nurtured a few others that spring to mind include: Simon Wigg, Simon Cross, Steve Schofield, Scott Nicholls, N.K.I. Neil was much more than a team manager, sadly he was never accredited or rewarded for his dedication to the sport in the U.K. unlike he was in Australia. This didn't bother him as he did for the love of the sport.

  10. So the s have broken the habit of a speedway promoting lifetime. 2 points under the limit and CVS is trying to justify it on the OS

  11. Well that’s an improvement on your last years verdict of our team. If a “cr@p” team that “will finish bottom” can end up runners up, then this “half decent team” has every chance of success surely..

  12. Sorry Steve, but it certainly wasn’t with ease. It was 2 points and frankly, that away win at BV on a wet track without max fricke essentially got you in. You did it so fair enough, but let’s not move out of the reality of what actually happened.

  15. Work to start on the streamlined pitch this week, so hope the weather is kind. There is a realisation in the Football camp that they need the Speedway to survive for both sports to survive. Pleasingly Courtney junior has the sense to see this too, shame the butcher didn’t.

  16. 1. Swindon 2. Belle Vue 3. Ipswich 4. Peterborough 5. Wolves 6. Sheffield 7. Kings Lynn TBF, top two will be the top two, other 5 could be anywhere. All dependant on Panthers signing Niels and not Mikkel B/Scotty.

  17. This Newcastle late bid seems very strange and should be turned down. If they wanted to join the NDL why weren't they at the AGM? To allow someone to join at this stage after the AGM is done and dusted, and teams have been built, would be crazy. It sets a dangerous precedent for future years. Also. The Trophy is for standalone clubs only (remember Belle Vue, Leicester, Armadale and Kent weren't allowed to enter the trophy). If Newcastle wanted to join anything, it should be the NDL (and should have been done at the AGM). Finally if Newcastle were allowed into the trophy (and they shouldn't be), surely they would have to sign 7 riders from the large number of riders who have been frozen out of the NDL by the low points limit and reduced number of teams. To allow them to take riders at a whim from Belle Vue, Kent, Leicester or Armadale would be ludicrous, especially since those teams were blocked from entering the Trophy.

  19. Just a reminder that titles are not won on paper and it’s how they perform on track that is important. As all teams build to a 42.5 points limit then any of the 7 teams can theoretically win it. Look at last year - on paper Ipswich looked gash and they ended up as first losers in the play offs!

  20. No different to last year with Ipswich, whilst virtually everyone still predicted them bottom prior to the start of the season. And we all know how that ended. All completed sides are a threat before the season starts. Some more than others.

  21. What Osbourne & other developers should do ................ be accountable & rebuild or re-site new stadia before any houses are built as per the planning procedure. They should never have been allowed to build houses before the speedway & stock cars were sorted.

  22. I can’t see any side yet to complete will be anywhere near the level of Swindon, miles ahead of the rest. I’ll have a stab at the rest when all teams are finalised.

  24. The NL Trophy currently has IOW, Plymouth and Mildenhall (1 home, 1 away) so if Newcastle were accepted they'd have 3 home meetings and some lengthy travelling. The NL AGM statement also mentions new rules for trophy meetings; * Immediately prior to the meeting, the away team manager will select two races between Heats 5 and 12 inclusive where the highest-averaged rider from each team in that race will start from a 15-metre handicap. * Between Heats 5 and 12 inclusive (except for the races pre-selected as above), an additional tactical option is available to a team six or more points in arrears who can, on one occasion, select gate positions for the following race.

  25. Ove on the other hand is speaking very good English in the interview. This is typical of someone from Scandinavia. I was in Sweden a couple of years ago and it was frankly embarrassing how well the locals spoke English even in the rural areas, compared to the half a dozen Swedish words that I picked up.

  26. No idea. I have minimal interest these days. When Frost & Mahoney left Peterborough then so did much of my enthusiasm. If it's not Peterborough or GP as seen on BT then I'm unlikely to know too much about it. All I've seen of 6 fingers is a Twitter game of guess who this is? I assume that Lambert is riding for them but apart from that I have no idea who they've got. I wouldn't be happy to be a Stars fan because Christmas is really expensive with 1000s of relatives to buy presents for.

  28. Giving Sam Masters has been confirmed as the last signing then your massive cock up theory has happened. IMO Wolves will need changes once the averages sort themselves out if they are to challenge this season, they are bound to have a decent home record but not much happening on the road.

  29. Very strange to build so much under the limit, i would imagine they thought they could get a top rider.

  30. 1992 was his first season, at Peterborough wasn’t it? Increased his average massively and they won the league. Then he was at Swindon in 93 and Poole in 94 when he made the World Final! Rapid progress in those early years.

  33. Hi Iris 123, thanks for the links-great to hear the Ove interview-and there were more World titles yet to come. A thing that struck me was the voice of the interviewer-what we called posh-I guess regional accents hadn't come into the British TV (Except for Eddie Waring and rugby league). Here in Canada , except for Quebec everyone sounds the same -whether you are in B.C. or Nova Scotia, even though they are about 6,000 miles apart. I've been here so long I think I can just detect a Newfoundland accent . Amazing to me that in a small country like England there are so many regional accents-glad that folks aren't ashamed for the way they speak any more now and don't try try to adopt a BBC accent!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Given that their first matches probably won't be until May, I'd think they've got enough time -- and enough spare riders about -- to build a team.

  38. Sounds like the wrong topic to write about but I was wondering in these modern times when land is at a premium for housing, what will be the first track to permanently close its doors in the 2020's? At the turn of the last century there used to be a new track opening every couple of years but there has not been any new ventures (if you take Belle Vue's new track out of it) since Kent opened in 2013. I wonder how many tracks will be in operation in 2030?

  39. Swindon and Belle Vue are a clear top 2. I'd think the odds will reflect this. Sheffield will make them. After that it's anyone's guess, although I'm pretty certain KL will be bottom.
