Honestly What a real shame Chris is a great lad; His dad was a nice fella so was Tom his other "Spanner Man" and little Doreen who lives in the borders must be past herself as she supported Chis for years... Hope things sort themselves out sooner rather than later and he gets back on his feet... Get well soon "Big Boy"... Regards John Oh and on a lighter note a couple of laughs about Chris that I will never forget... His waxing escapade in the bar at Brough to raise money for the air fence (I think) when a flock of women led by Gillian set about him with waxing strips and a razor (I believe) and if you had seen him stripped to the waist it looked like he was wearing a mohair jumper tucked in at the waist and when he came back looking like a plucked pheasant; pink wasn't the word he was actually bleeding... and still with that beaming smile... and the time he decided to take a short cut across the centre green when avoiding a fallen rider and we asked in the bar what he was thinking about and he said he hadn't seen the fallen rider he was going for a gap but forgot he had to go round the 3rd and 4th bends... he said "I though I had cracked it and found a fast way around Brough" and again never stopped smiling... Great kid; some good laughs and always came in the bar for a chat and a pint (usually because (Pepsi) Tom was driving) it was a pleasure to be associated with the Guy... a genuinely nice bloke... Get well soon pal from the BFG; Leah; George; Doug; Kyle and Emily... Regards THJ4 points

Another great read this week.. Best two compliments I can pay it are, one, I now buy it every week and, two, I still have things to read about well into the week after, such are the diverse articles that are in there and the detail that they are covering.. An outstanding magazine, especially given the current situation..4 points

Yes, she used to stand with my family when Chris was riding for us. Fabulous sponsor to have, who used to go down to live with Chris and his family, and then going on to do the southern tour with him.2 points

Chris is one of those riders who when you watch the racing on YouTube from the past five to ten years or so appears in loads and loads of meetings for a good many various teams, and was often it seems very much an in demand guest.. A rider who came across as someone who gave his absolute all in every race regardless of who he was riding for.. One of those '100% triers' that the sport is built on and the fans often appreciate the most.. Best wishes to him and his family, and let's hope he can overcome his current issues and find himself in a better place in the not too distant future..2 points

This is a group of CEOs, directors, senior managers and the person in question was no office junior. It was a decision maker. I don't say this with any glee at all. It's terrible news. But what was said was highly credible from a credible source. I do understand your cynicism. I am under no illusion I am just another bloke on the internet posting some unaccountable opinion. No problem. Fair enough.1 point

While I dared to criticise the elite cartel that obviously runs the mag these days and obviously the cage doesn’t like being poked, there has been a marked improvement in the interviews the last few weeks and that doesn’t include the best of them all (mine ) but it’s still clear that a lot “their work” is going on but my biggest bugbear is the filters used on the photos, what is it with photographers in all mags etc are using filters, stop it, a good pic is a good pic it doesn’t need bloody filters1 point

You might be right. You might be wrong. No one knows. What the Stadium employee says means sweet FA doesn't it. I'm getting iritated reading opinion of this sort as it has no susbstance. Pure guesswork and just alarmist for some people.1 point

I see it has been posted on Facebook that Chris Schramm is struggling with mental health issues and has been hospitalised for his own safety. I hope he is OK and get the help and support he needs and makes a recovery. #mentalhealthawareness1 point

I really feel for the Peterborough promotion as I know they had put so much time and effort in to making this season a successful one for the club,” Nicholls added. “We know last season wasn’t a great one for everyone so many things had been put in place behind the scenes to improve on last year ET 21/5/20 Sort of countered by the addition of the biggest cock-up any promotion has made in the last 20 years towards a section of it's fanbase and visitors.1 point

An interesting piece from 1936 Flat track racing fans have a real treat in store. The only man to ever hold 4 major flat track titles is going to race at the San Francisco speedway for the first time tomorrow night. Ray Tauser, one of the most daring flat track riders has sent in his entry blank.....he captured the English star trophy championship, the Australian championship, the French championship and the world's dirt track championship. One young man who is not the least bit frightened over the European star is Lou Casazza. Casazza is a San Francisco Italian, and is the pride of the Italian populace Now I also saw something about Tauser making his first appearance at Emeryville a few months later and was also captain of the Fresno team in the league. But must admit I have never heard of Lou Casazza Mention of Emeryville speedway, which ran meetings from 1933-1936 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_Speedway By 1938 it seems Tauser had become the track manager at the Hinchliffe City stadium in Patterson NJ, where Bo Lisman was the main attraction along with Crocky Rawding https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinchliffe_Stadium1 point

Sadly it`s not all good news. I wish him and his family all the best in the times ahead. I knew Chris well from his Reading days.1 point

I think the job market has changed so much since those days that working and racing is a lot more difficult. In the past the vast majority of jobs finished at 5pm which would allow riders to make home meetings after work or with a couple of hours off. Now with more and more jobs being run over a 24 hour rota hours are all over the place and it's very much more difficult to find a job that fits in. Also in the past Speedway was a much bigger sport and many employers were happy to help riders in their career allowing for time off and injuries, that just wouldn't happen now. Weekend racing would help a lot but is not possible for a lot of tracks and even that is becoming difficult with ever more 7 day working. Plenty of riders do work running their own business or part time during the season and there aren't so many that could really say they are making a good living out of Speedway, most will have to work at least the off season. At the end of the day it has to be remembered that the likes of Briggo had businesses to run because they used their Speedway income to set them up not the other way around. Certainly in comparison the money paid to riders in the past was a whole lot more than it is now.1 point
