When will the sides for this be announced , I was there with my dad for the last meeting which Jordan Palin won , unfortunately I’m away with it been bank holiday but please stop all the moaning the price . My dad is an OAP and I’ve purchased him a ticket for the next event , So let’s get the bullrubbish out the way by lining Rob Godfrey pockets you must all be stupid there will be better riders on show than the last meeting and Rob is prepared to put meetings on under the guidelines set out by councils , government etc so let’s back Scunthorpe as all the moaners will possibly get there way when it’s defunct . Simple fact support your local track or it might be lost forever Sorry Rant over5 points

Personally think it’s a good deal 19 heats of speedway on a great track with some quality riders in and the innovative use of 250 riders as part of a 9 man team. It’s a great way of extending a meeting and making the kids feel part of the team can only be good for the future. Maybe this could be part of the bigger picture when the NDL is back next season.4 points

Yes, regardless of your own club allegiance it would be great to see a famous Speedway name return. The sport needs more Clubs and I am sure this would be a tremendous boost. Regardless of the state of Brandon when it re-opens I am sure most fans will be just happy to see the return the track-action. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.3 points

How am I supposed to like or not like the answer if I dont ask the question? There are too many uptight miserable people on this forum now with no sense of humour so I will leave you to carry on arguing with each other.3 points

The Stock Car promotions are asking that you wear a mask at all times inside the stadium so I would expect Speedway to be the same. I went to Aldershot on 26th July and the person in front of me at the entrance explained to the staff member that they could not wear a mask for medical reasons and was allowed in but told to keep away from other spectators so that they did not catch or pass on anything.2 points

This is exactly the kind of post I was hoping for when I started the thread, some creativity and positive way of promoting and fund raising. It makes a welcome change from the endless posts about who thinks they know more about a virus and trying to convince us the sport isn't dying but already dead. Thank you.2 points

It's all inclusive. Most National League tracks charge £14, plus a couple of quid for the programme. The price is for admission, programme and parking. At how many tracks could you do all of those for £15.50? It's 19 heats and nine riders per team.2 points

I obviously didn't spot your earlier post iris123. Just thinking, in the 50's, 60's & 70's, most towns in the UK will have had their own amateur cine society's. Most of the films they made would have been shot on 16mm, far superior in quality to vhs videotape which came along to replace cine in the 80's. I wouldn't mind betting there is a goldmine of high quality amateur speedway footage languishing in many vaults.1 point

Why should we not be attending public gatherings. Not all medical conditions are visible. Myself and many others are able and entitled to make the most of our lives and that includes enjoying/watching sports/theatre/cinema etc. If I felt unwell I would not be going out in the first place. Just because some of us can't wear a mask doesn't mean we have to lock ourselves away, understanding and tolerance is needed in these uncertain times by everyone.1 point

The stadium that you will have visited has now also been demolished, with a newer smaller one currently being constructed. I don't believe the tribute to Craven is going into the new stadium, which is a shame. There was a suggestion a while back that it was going to the museum at paradise wildlife park. I'm not sure whether that happened or not, though.1 point

Surely anybody with a medical condition meaning they can’t wear a mask should not be attending a public gathering?1 point

I wore a mask under my chin at Scunthorpe, in case i needed the toilet. It wasn't compulsory, but a few people chose to wear them.1 point

Mr. Jorgensen is more than a capable role model. A gentleman around the fans and a fine rider, I detect a slight biase in a Newcastle fans comment. If research is carried out I think Pienpeesman may also find that more southern based juniors travel north to ride due to the number of events taking place at northern tracks such as Scunthorpe and Redcar and during the season you will have seen a number of ‘ southerners ‘ riding in the Northern Junior League.1 point
-
Why not Jorgensen ? Lovely lad , been around a while has good equipment and can certainly ride a bike ( but perhaps not around Newcastle !) Not sure what you mean by no action as we are blessed with having the N.J.L. and more tracks that run practices/ amateur meetings in the north than down south.1 point

An elderly gentleman was met recently who had claimed to be the first Finn ever to ride in the UK. So that would be before Pajari. Was an interesting encounter I’m told...1 point

Funnily enough I am also a member of a rugby league forum, which seems to be mainly populated by fans of a certain age. There are a number of similarities between the majority of threads on both forums:- There are no characters left in the sports The game isn't what it used to be The authorities running the sports don't know what they are doing The sports are dying out Is it an age thing? There are certainly plenty of enthusiastic promoters out there who are itching to get back to racing next season, if not trying to fit in some meetings at the end of this year. No deaths yet I'm afraid.1 point

It has always seemed widely accepted that when a club is on TV they will get a lower crowd because fans would rather sit at home because they don’t have to shell out their entrance fee. To me that screams out the lack of value for money there is in attending Speedway. I support Stevenage FC. If we are ever on TV (it has happened a few times) I don’t decide to sit at home and watch, if anything I’m more interested in going to the match live. I’m reluctant to draw comparisons to Premier League football as it is a completely different beast but the majority of games are covered live or given extensive highlights yet it is rare to see many empty seats at these games. There is no substitute for attending a live sporting event, yet the numbers watching Speedway on TV don’t seem to correlate to the numbers who appear to walk through the gates to watch meetings in the flesh. I can’t see that being anything other than a promoting and cost to the punter issue. WWE use a technique with their TV shows when they have empty seats in which they move as many people as possible to the seating that their hard (main) camera faces. This gives the impression of a packed arena. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Speedway tracks to do something similar when the TV cameras are in town. A track like Sheffield, or Wolves, where fans can’t stand on the back straight would surely be better served having the cameras set up facing the main stand where the crowds are packed in as opposed to in the main stand facing a desolate, empty area.1 point

Sky were always "very pleased" with the viewing figures they got, particularly in the first ten years or so.. Often they would easily hit well over 100,000 for the GP's and high 80's and 90,000's (and more sometimes) for domestic racing.. BT delivered circa 50 to 60000+ last time I looked at their figs on BARB which, for them, was also more than a reasonable return, and often would beat their round the world sports and non Premier League football.. I think with Sky it was just the cost of the OB to show Speedway, especially at a time when they had paid out zillions for football, that made them decide to pay up the contract and move on to other sports like Netball which I presume is cheaper to produce and definitely has no weather threats to it taking place.. Speedway's following on the TV though certainly punches well above its weight in relation to its 'live' following I would suggest... Which does make it all the more frustrating to he honest when you see hardly any effort to sell itself when the TV cameras come to town. There is obviously an interested and curious market out there for the sport, sat in their armchairs, so maybe doing more to hide the huge swathes of empty stadia that take 'centre stage' most weeks at the live meeting, and fill the space with fans or advertising, would be worth considering..?1 point

I think you are being too singular. Everyone is important at Brough for there to be any speedway. But it has got to be accepted that the roles of some people are more important and essential for the sport to be sustained. If you or I stopped going to Brough, it would still continue. If the likes of Dalbers did, there would be NO SPEEDWAY. If it hadn't been for Me, George and Peter, there would have been no Speedway as from 1997. Dalbers has always been behind Newcastle Speedway for a long time, and still contributed financially even during his short self imposed exile due to differences with a Promoter. As can be seen from THJ's post, he was of great assistance to Rob during the takeover and still remains to continue to help Newcastle Speedway,1 point

Genuine question Gustix.. if speedway ranks 15th in your list of sports you enjoy.... do you post on forums pertaining to the 14 sports above it?1 point

They did, I think it was Blackbird Road Leicester but not sure it really made any difference. Speedway is not a factor nor is most sport apart from say the likes of F1and Hamilton who has made a fortune from all the WASP support and now feels the need to make a stand without donating financially to the cause. It makes no difference, those who support these actions have an agenda that is so insular they will never accept the wider view. So many down trodden members of society and those that are suffering in huge numbers from a range of abuses be these racial or religious or sex or disability can garnish the support of BLM and few stand up for them in the way that the hard done by BLM movement claim is their position. The BLM is but a pimple on the arse of the world yet gains publicity from the dregs of the media who give credence to this while ignoring, not least on a numbers basis, those who are are abused and suffering in far greater numbers. The BLM movement fail to look outside the box and cannot see what is happening in the real world and yet the media across the spectrum gives them airtime. Why do they deserve it above all the other causes?1 point

"speedway in this country is a sport that definitely needs to address the matter of equality and diversity." Why do you say that? Have you any evidence that potemntial riders other then white have been turned away from a practice track etc due to the colour of their skin? Have you not noticed that certain sports are dominated by coloured persons, and other by white persons ie athletics/swimming. I have concluded that certain types of humans are not cut out for some sports but ok with other sports, for example cricket compared to motor sports. Moto GP doesnt have many/any coloured riders (though there are many asian riders. I notice certain countries are predominat in sport in general, but many dont really compete on the world stage ie Saudi/UAR/Qatar/Iran/Iraq/Afgan/Lebanon. So its each to their own, cant force competitors to do this or that, and IMO it would be wrong to spend a lot of money trying to coerce somone to do something they dont want just to satisfy some perceiced need.1 point

Regardless of where the cash went it's proof if needed that those who run speedway in the country are incompetent. Vast amounts of money wasted and not invested in the future of the sport, total failure to capitalise on the involvement of sky sports and the greater media attention that brought for a few seasons. I would love to see the sport return to Brandon I have such fond memories of watching my team Ipswich at Brandon on Saturday evenings during the 90s and of course those wonderful Sunday afternoon British finals of the early mid 90s. I'm sorry to say that unless this once wonderful sport changes dramatically in the next 6 months ready for 2021 then the fate of speedway in this country will mirror that of Brandon. I wish you guys who are trying to save the stadium and return it to speedway use all the best but without massive change the sport will be nothing but a memory in a few years with the exception of one or two tracks staging the old open meeting and experience days.1 point
