Difficulty to judge on one camera angle. Other cameras in different positions might show things differently. But :- 1. It was a slick track and Morris drifted wide on bend 4/lap 1 , as he did when the accident happened, and rode round the boards on lap two, so riding wide seems to be his chosen line. 2. Morris was in front at the time of the collision so should be able to pick his line. 3. It’s not clear whether Morris drifted wide because it was his chosen line or because he saw David out of the corner of his eye and drifted wide to block McAllans run round the outside, but there’s no reason why he shouldn’t. Possibly a harsh decision to exclude Morris , but the referee was there and I wasn’t so I can’t argue about that but was it dirty riding ? It didn’t look like to me but I suspect only Phil himself knows the answer to that one. A terribly tragic accident though, with dreadful life changing consequences for David ,and I really feel for him6 points
-
As has been said only Morris himself can possibly know if that was accidental or he intentionally nailed him, looks from the video like a racing incident and no doubt the consequences for McAllan sharpened people’s feelings who were there. If he gets up and walks away feelings would run nowhere near as high.5 points

I agree that excluding Morris was the correct decision, whether it was dirty however is a different matter.5 points

Hi all. long time no speak :-) for those that fancy a listen I’ve started a podcast about the memories of the Coventry Bees, and so far have recorded 4 first one was with Robbo and it’s a shame it happened but there were major technical problems So the sound and recording wasn’t great but it was still great to chat to him Episode 2 was with Jacob Olsen. Jacob was very honest about his career in the mid 90s Episode 3 was with Rosco who told a couple of great stories and reminisced about his time at the club as a rider and then League winning Manager. most recent Episode 4 was with Shaun Tacey. Great to speak to Tace who told a couple of belting stories including one where Tony Rickardsson of all people let him down :-) Others who have so far agreed to catch up include Peter Oakes, Rory Schlein, Chris Harris, Martin Smolinski, Darren Spicer and Andy Hackett If you have some spare time give it a listen. It’s something I thought about doing last year and lockdown has managed to convince me to give it a go. Hope you enjoy Chivsy https://anchor.fm/martin-coleman54 points

Looking at all the names mentioned here, this is the best team I can come up with! Plymouth 1 Bjarne Pedersen 11.06? 2 Hans Andersen 9.26? 3 Niklas Porsing 6.19? 4 Zdenek Simota 5.09 5 Nick Agertoft 4.00 6 Alfie Bowtell 3.02 7 Henry Atkins 2.** Total 38.62 + 23 points

Terrific news for Plymouth. Good luck to them. If everything goes ahead this year as planned and they manage to sign Crump then I may well make a trip down to watch! Such a shame that Plymouth, Somerset and Poole aren’t all competing against eachother at the same level this year.3 points

I seen far far worse - just a racing incident that one More to do with the narrow exits to the bends than anything else3 points

In reality thats How I see it my post was in response to one asking what was available either way. I agree we can expect big things of jordan round the EWR and well if we lose at least we know it will be entertaining around our track2 points
-
I'd agree, looked to me that LT was trying to leave room to race, back end went round a bit to far, due to rider error or a patchy track2 points

Lubos left plenty of room for Jason and he unfortunately picked up a lot of grip. Racing accident. IMO.2 points

That app already exists - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.krygiel.speedway.programme&hl=en_GB&gl=US And some people still have black & white televisions, but that's no excuse for not developing 4K, BluRay, 8K, cable, satellite, IPTV and other hi-tech solutions as technology advances. If fans want to come to speedway on horseback, and refill their quill pens with Quink before filling out their paper programmes, then they are welcome to do so, as far as I'm concerned, but they shouldn't be used as an excuse to prevent progress. That regressive mindset is what's held the sport back for too long.2 points

Well he was apparently ready for the Speedway of Nations so the Championship should be a walk in the park lol!2 points

Giving the circumstances Plymouth find themselves in putting their team together, not of their making, I think they will find it very difficult to put a competitive team together. Obviously there`s Covid, and of course the situation with riders who are committed to Poland.2 points

Was wondering will the rising star programme and the opportunity it gives be wasted by the lack of teams at national league level. No point been a rising star if all your getting is rushed second halfs2 points

Don't talk crap no riders were signed up as they didn't know what league they were going to be in,as for hoping they won't be back i Don't think the nl is in a position to turn anyone down in fact I,m sure if Plymouth were to run nl aswell they would be more than welcome.2 points

First time I've seen the incident therefore not aware of the outcome but I would have excluded Morris personally.2 points

I remember hull being in a very similar situation having to take the remaining riders not employed. They ended up winning the league that season. So keep positive1 point

With respect I do t think any rider who signed up for 2020 can have too much complaint if they are not required in 2021 with all that has happened in between.1 point

I also remember that in the early 80's. It was painful watching one of the top riders in the World at his peak, a colossus of the British league and in my opinion Halifax Dukes best ever rider scratching around at the back for a point or two. I think he averaged under 3 and had quit before the end of the season. Leigh Lanhams right in not coming back cause he had a very good career, finishing cause he was on the wane and no one wanted him in the end. If he came back he'd struggle to average 5. Paul Hurry might just about eek out a 6 average and Crump will average under 8. I remember reading something Ivan Mauger put in one of his books or an article where he said he was seriously considering a comeback on the Longtracks in the late 80's but backed away after consulting his son Kym who rightly said that you've got nothing to prove and you wouldn't be as good as before. Hopefully the new plan for young Brits will result in more homegrown riders filling out teams and Britain becoming stronger on the International stage.1 point

Vera Duckworth & Lennox Lewis. That pair probably know the square root of diddly squat about speedway, and that would probably be their biggest advantage.1 point

It all depends on which side of the border you live on and which team you support. Glasgow Tigers fans wanted Morris's head mounted on a pole for that, and are using it as justification for voting "leave" at the next independence referendum. Such is life when you are passionate for a cause. On the other hand, as a Brummies fan, the way I saw it, and as has been said above, he rode the same exit line out of that 4th bend that he'd used before and there was no attempt to ride into the side of the opponent, not in the way that Michael Schumacher or Sebastian Vettel have been known to do in F1 racing. Also as has been said above, he was in front and entitled to pick his own line. Glasgow fans will obviously disagree. To them every line on that track belongs to their riders and their riders only. Likewise when a gap closes, shutting the throttle off, doesn't seem to be the done thing. And finally, the one thing that nobody has asked or considered is what contribution that "safety" fence had on the injuries? Hitting an upright pole sticking out of the ground is going to hurt, possibly badly. It was too far around for an air fence to have been an option at that location but would the injury have been any lesser had the fence been of the solid board type? Now if you do want to see a "definite" nudge that caused someone to go into the fence, check out Lubos Tomicek on Jason Lyons.1 point

In 1986 Rye House had Kelvin Mullarkey and Rob Woofinden AS A PAIR. This wins this thread hands down1 point

I was at that meeting it was disgusting what “Filthy Phill” did to David, absolutely shocking1 point

with plymouth poole and eastbourne all championship clubs it would make a good southern tour if fixtures were sorted and we can travel could be a good earner for the clubs1 point

I went to Plymouth last season to one of the Meetings they put on. The Stadium improvements are excellent and the Track that had been so poor the year before delivered some great Racing. The whole experience was fantastic and some new arrivals to the Promoting Team seem to have put their mark on the supporter interaction and also the e-mail Ticketing system in particular which was excellent1 point
-
Maybe at some tracks social distancing will be a bigger issue than others, for example at Newcastle where only one side is available compared to Berwick where the whole stadium is available, though as has already been said going on normal crowds you`d like to think it wont have a big impact. Majority of clubs would love that problem.1 point
-
Giving the current situation and the vast majority of riders who are available already snapped up Plymouth might find things a bit harder than normal actually putting together a competitive team.1 point

Wish there was a British youngster that fit the bill. Its our 3rd heat leader that we are looking for at 6.6. Got 2 good British youngsters in the team with Anders Rowe & Jordan Jenkins.1 point

Possibly so but there are going to be more young riders coming in to offset the shortage.1 point

I think we will see more doubling up this year rather than less as the pool of riders who can / wish to ride in the UK is going to be smaller and getting in and out of the country is likely to be challenging for a while yet.1 point

There has been no Zoom Meeting nor AGM for the NDL. If there has been then Sings4speedway would be right in that IOW (and I assume Mildenhall/Plymouth too) have been excluded from any such Zoom Meeting or unofficial AGM/Pre AGM. And if there was a pre AGM without IOW knowing I would be particularly miffed as it was ME who got them introduced to the NDL midway through the season with a view to discuss what worked, what we need to improve and how to collectively move forward. As always keep well and safe in these tricky, troubling times.1 point

The sooner Barry Bishop is put in charge of the 3rd Tier under whatever Title the better. May be the only hope. Certainly far more qualified in every regard that a stooge taking the 3rd tier on a branch line to nowhere and oblivion.1 point
-
I am not sure where the information you have came from but to the best of my knowledge there has not been a NDL AGM - well at least not one that I have attended anyways. Keep safe one and all please.1 point
-
Kent already have Ledwith & Hurry in their plans so a few more won't do any harm. In hilarious contrast to the upper two leagues (who think so highly of themselves that they seldom reference the NDL) the introduction of a minimum age limit. All riders to be 25 and above, no exams etc to worry about and bonus points offered for any side with a combined age that exceeds 220.1 point
-
Dropping capacity wont work as you cannot sensibly supply enough riders from the youth classes across the league plus the majority of the teams are run midweek. I hope its a cap on the top riders averages creating more strength in depth sides as just reducing the team build averages artificially inflates the averages of riders and creates the impression they are better than they are.1 point

Covid/ Polish League is the straw that broke the camel’s back. Speedway’s issues date back a long time before Poland became the dictators of all things Speedway. For 20/30 years Promoters have just kicked the can down the road until there is nowhere left to kick it. My interest has declined year on year until there is little to nothing left in it for me. Will be interesting to see where they pitch it price wise and the crowds that are prepared to watch it.1 point

I think N Pedersen is the only deliberately dirty rider I've seen. Many are guilty of bad judgement and over-riding, but it's rarely deliberate. Generally speaking, I think most of the top riders will be much harder on riders of equal ability than they would be on lesser riders, Nicki excepted. I seem to remember him being decked by his own junior team-mate Wayne Carter in the Brandon pits after one particularly nasty move. Off-topic slightly, Sudden Sam has cropped up on here. Was it my imagination, or did he have a habit of inexplicably falling off on the 3rd/4th bends all by himself? I've seen him do it more than once at both Brandon & Monmore.1 point
-
How can you decide what is dirty, it's accepted practice to close gaps and it's accepted that some will make the effort to squeeze through or widen a gap to go through? If that action is the result of a rider declaring or thinking that "Joe Bloggs is in this race and I'm going to try and knock him off" then it's dirty but mostly it's just trying too hard or being prepared to take a few risks, without premeditation. Actually, with some of the threads being dreamed up recently, it would seem that too many people are short of something to do.1 point
