I'd have thought that mentioning Poole and Cheetahs in the same sentence, is inviting some interesting comments!3 points

Dont concern yourself about anyone in the Bowes family, you wont find a more genuine friendly family in the sport of speedway. Cheers Darrell Branford3 points

Adrian Smith will be another in quite a long line who have seen the sport from outside and thought "Wow! What potential".... So therefore, got involved, .. And, like others before him, would have gone into it thinking that all he had to do was highlight to the those already incumbent all the obvious inherent flaws that all can see hold the sport back in the UK... And then simply convince them that there are a great many alternative ways of moving this great sport forwards... However... Like so many others before him he has failed to take into account how insular and short term focused so many within the sport are, with many appearing to be "quite happy" with their lot as they hold 'some power'... Failing to grasp of course that they 'hold power' in a sport that hardly anyone has heard of, never mind cares about.. "Ideas People" are not wanted....3 points

He could be pleading for extra funds? extra help or going to tell the fans exactly what’s going on ? Best way to find out is by attending.2 points

Thank you for doing everything you can to keep our club alive and give us hope.2 points

Having watched all of them most weeks during their attachment to Wolverhampton, my view is that during their time with the club Olsen was by far the best rider of the three. Spectators expected him to win every time he came to the tapes and he rarely lost to anyone other than a high ranking opponent, especially at Monmore Green. Nielsen was on a steep learning curve for the first two of his four seasons with the club and although a high scorer in his last two seasons he was still well below the dominating level that he reached after moving to Oxford via Birmingham. Hans was not as adept at the art of team riding in those early stages in his league career as he later became. He left for Birmingham in 1981 when Wolverhampton dropped down for an ill-fated season in the National League. Sam was phenomenal at times at Monmore but he was sometimes erratic and prone to on-track errors which were rarely seen from the other two. I would still place Sam marginally ahead of Hans during their Wolverhampton years. In addition to the seasons referred to in an earlier post by Iris, Ermolenko also rode for Wolverhampton in 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2004, by which time he was well past his peak. My opinion only relates to their time spent with Wolverhampton and not their overall careers.2 points

Lots of stadiums have this ridiculous no food or drink ruling. A lot of football stadiums play the non violence card saying that full bottles can be used as weapons, so take them away but then when you get in the ground they are selling drink! Alot of people with specific dietary requirements, health issues, oldies (myself included) don't/can't eat unfrozen cheap fastfood or fizzy drinks stodge so need to take food and drink with them. I know King's Lynn have this rule (whether it is enforced more at stock cars than speedway I'm not sure ) which doesn't effect myself cause I don't go there nowadays but if I ever did decide to go back and was refused entry cause I had a bottle of water of some light refreshments then I'd ask for my admission money back and go home, probably never to return! Back to the subject matter - good luck in saving the Birmingham Brummies. If the consortium pulls this off then it may work out better than the Masons era cause living that far from the track you promote at like David and Peter did can't always be conducive to the tracks well being?2 points

Had a walk down to Northside today, plenty of activity from around a dozen volunteer's, the base is in and looks well packed down, plenty of camber on both bends and also on straights, inside curb being laid, about 2/3 done, shale ex Derwent park being sorted to be laid in the next few weeks, changing rooms and pits to be marked out and built, so still lots to do and winter weather on its way !! Good luck to the people behind the venture,2 points

It wouldn't be a Scunthorpe thread without Ryan Kinsley getting a mention. He proved last year with Redcar he's not good enough for Championship level move on for God sake.2 points

Absolutely brilliant to be scrolling through the teams and see Oxford in the list2 points

So basically “all is well here, more of the same please!” Except it’s a shocker to get rid of the rising star scheme in the championship. Although I don’t know why I’m surprised, I just don’t get it one little bit. I’ve said it many times but it should also be 6 man teams. Time and time again there is always a rider shortage so limit the number of riders needing to be found in the first place!2 points

A correct visa is surely the proper visa, why can it be voided unless the rider and Employers are not telling the truth.Typical Speedway Promoter, doesn’t even know the criteria.IMO ps Tero’s employer supposedly oversees the sport.!!!1 point

I don't have a team worked out,,, it's not really something I do, but I like new young fresh riders that can be turned into world class riders, along with a couple of dependables,,,, and a couple of triers that I can get behind1 point

I posted back in August/September that Tero & other riders were having visa problems given to me by a Private Message which I was not prepared to air on the forum. Ully was one of those riders but the injury he received did not highlight his problems as he was not travelling in & out of the country as regular. Posters, & many came on, implying that there had been a falling out between Rob & Tero, which was totally untrue & also implying that, if Tero read the forums, he should not ride for a team like us with fans having a go at his away scores, which even he admitted to, should have been better but, mainly, we can not judge effort & performance if not there. There are many smart arses out there with their smug comments which we have to put up with them as it is a public forum. It is easy to bypass these posters, though, as to stick them on ignore. Any "over the top" nastiness is normally dealt with by the moderators.1 point

The latest (and last so far except for any Eastbourne adjustments) is issue 23 dated 29th October and effective 1/11/21. Although this doesn't have any actual averages for the Rising Star riders - merely listing where in their teams 1-7 they fit!! Obviously for 2022 any British riders will also have the 2.5% reduction for team building.1 point

The way things are going if it's not sorted soon, think you could end up with a team the same as Newcastle last season no No1 and lots of second strings? Hope it does gets sorted out soon don't need more clubs going to the wall.1 point

What is a shame, is all the effort that happened to get speedway in Birmingham again and to get speedway into the Sittingbourne dog track, for it all to suddenly collapse. Add in the mix Eastbourne, a track owned by a speedway dynasty, one can only feel 'the end is nigh'!1 point

Ken McKinlay is often forgotten when one talks about quality riders. He had a career that over many years proved that he was a force both at domestic and world level. One of my first heroes although past his best when he rode for the "Rebels" during my first season (1972)1 point

Sam Ermolenko because he rode for longer than Olsen and Nielsen did at Wolves! Olsen had a massive impact at Wolves as did Nielsen!1 point

Yep huge congratulations to all at Oxford for achieving something which must have seemed a million miles away not that long ago. Particularly pleased for @Matt Davis who will be able to take his kids there as he went as a lad, dream coming true stuff for him and his family1 point

Weren't fixed race nights brought in to prevent clashes with Sweden and Poland? Seeing as hardly anyone now rides in Sweden, Poland and the UK anyway, are they still actually needed?1 point
-
It's a sensible move! Clubs struggle on Fridays as it is for guests etc. You only have to look at the prem when all 6 teams are riding and guests are needed1 point

Thanks again BL65- I'd forgotten re Neath-only raced for one year but finished runner up in the PL-lack of crowds apparently.1 point

Jon was with Neath in 1962 and joined Long Eaton the following year. He averaged nearly 7 points per match with Neath, in his first season of league speedway. His record time at Weymouth was remarkable in that it was 3.4 seconds faster than the average winning time for 14 of the 16 heats in the Best Pairs event, in which Jon scored 12 points from 4 rides. The next best winning time was 74.0 and Jon recorded times of 76.0 and 76.8 in two of his winning rides. This might suggest that the very quick time of 72.4 was dubious, except for the fact that he recorded it twice, in heats 12 and 14!1 point
-
The track record at the beginning of the 1963 season was 72.4 by Jon Erskine on 27th July 1962. This was still the record throughout 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1968.1 point

Just wanted to note the recent passing of Pat. Whilst never a star he was riding for Canterbury when I attended my first ever meeting as a 10 year old in 1968 and even then to me he looked like someone from the past with his WW2 goggles and his long scarf over his face, pretty sure he had white boots at the time also. Always had time for the kids and was usually smiling broadly.. Its riders like Pat that make speedway and he left a lasting impression on me at the time. R.I.P.1 point
